Thanks for differentiating the different types Exterminatus weaponry that have different tiers of destructions or different destructive purposes that have different methods involved to achieve a result or if it is available and easily transported enough whether it is conventional planet wide bombardment, virus bombs, cyclonic torpedoes, two stage-cyclonic torpedoes, atmospheric incinerator torpedo, or other means. It seems like the comprehensive energy output of these weapons normally ranges in the hundreds of gigatons, teratons, to even a low petatons range depending on the intensity and concentration of the Exterminatus deployed. Stronger then Star Wars Planetary Bombardment and Covenant Glassing which takes days or weeks to do. Ironically it would seem the UNSC appear to have developed and fielded some superweapons that can surpass these average Exterminatus weapon systems even the cyclonic two stage torpedoes in lone raw destructive power like the Nova bomb. That bomb when it detonated it effectively crack both a Covenant planet and it's moon while being roughly 10,000km away. That's easily exatons in energy range. For a group with less powerful mass destructive weapon arsenal system technologies then the Imperium they sure do know how to improvise in a proper effective attacking manner. A Nova bomb would be very efficient against a Tyranid Hivefleet clustered into large formations. It would turn hundreds of thousands of hive ships into either vaporized matter or fried ashes and suffer floating in space. Like the one that attacked Baal. It's easier to build and transport around then a Death Star or Blackstone Fortress.

5 :10 Small correction modern nuclear weapon while still utilising nuclear fission their main warhead uses nuclear fusion. Yea i know its pedantic but the energy limits are very different.

True, but they require fission to detonate. No fission, no fusion explosion.

@@TheLostPrimarch absolutely true. They use a 3 stage detonation, a conventional explosive is used to activate the fission reaction that is then used to activate the fusion reaction.

In the Forerunner-Flood war in Halo the Forerunners had their own version of Exterminatus though they used their destructive protocols more often and to far more extremes in trying the delay and deny the Flood territory and resources. Often out right destroying whole star systems as a result in their increasingly desperate attempts in halting the Flood's advance and growing numbers and infrastructure across their 3 million world empire.

Edit: did some math, and it's insane. If we assume an even one million worlds the Imperium can decently 'use', and that one percent of them are able to send out a colony ship in a given year, then we've got 10,000 new colonies being set up. In that same year, less than 4,000 would be destroyed by the Inquisition, and assumably a couple thousand more by other factors. Even with everything going on, it is quite possible that humanity is STILL slowly expanding and growing! Old Comment: With the scale of the Imperium, said to be 'over a million worlds', we could easily exterminatus 10 colonies *a day*, and even if only one in a hundred colonies sent out new colonies of their own every year, it'd still take a couple hundred years to finally make a dent in the Empire's size. WH40k is absurd in many ways, but the one thing it consistently gets close to accurate is *scale*. You still need to add 1-3 zeroes to every army and population size IMO tho.

You have to also account for the fact the average hive world on the smaller side holds about 10 billion humans not accounting the underhives that may have more undocumented humans or the humans undocumented in pocket imperiums that are owned by the rogue traders and minor xeno groups and species that are sanctioned by the imperium which only further increases the size of the empire
