It's funny that Yahtzee compares the gameplay of Attack on Titan 2 to Spiderman 2 because the animators took inspiration from the web swinging scenes from the Amazing Spider-Man when animating the 3D Maneuver Gear scenes in the anime so I guess it comes (kinda) full circle.

It would seem like the odds are against it, being a licensed game for a popular anime series and its always super tempting to slap some crap together and call it a day knowing it will turn a profit. But the creators actually went out of their way to make a fun game, using a solid core mechanic central to the series' basic premise with interesting story related stuff to give a good pacing. Unlike other games based on major properties that are more often than not a lazy microtransaction-crazy ripoff with the license hastily sticker wrapped on.

The 'swords instead of guns' thing is covered in the anime. They have to be hit in a precise spot in the nape to kill them. You CAN do it with cannons, but it's a tough shot to make, and the little bastards regenerate very quickly, so what doesn't kill them only slows them down a little before they come right back at you, good as new. And they can regenerate every part of them EXCEPT said part of the nape, meaning they can even regrow their heads.

@Tin Watchman I don't think so. They did have one to keep science from advancing beyond a certain point, and there was anti-personnel O.D.M. gear, which had guns that was secret. But the blades are crap because they're meant to be disposable. No one has time to sharpen their swords every dozen cuts, better to drop and swap.

That part never really made sense to me. Surely, if you destroy everything in the vicinity of the nape, then the nape too is destroyed? Explosives should be a LOT more effective than swords!

Heh, I watched part of the stream where he was playing these two games . Yahtzee REALLY liked the mechanics of the omni-directional mobility gear thing (the spiderman-esque mechanic he mentioned here,) and he also mentioned that his significant other is apparently afraid of caterpillars whilst discussing his general dislike of spiders. He then proceeded to give us a line about his opinion on caterpillars that shows he has a heart of gold, underneath all the snark we love in his review vids: "I like caterpillars, they're like little fuzzy friends." Keep being cool, Yahtzee.

Honestly one of the more ridiculous moments i had on it was a side mode online where you and a friend compete on who can do the most damage controlling a Titan. Their movement in that mode is some of the derpiest I've ever seen.

It's fun because in the anime it is explained why they don't use guns, basically they're stuck right before the industrial revolution so they only have muskets, and Titans are not only super resistant but regenerate and their blood is like boiling water, so by the time you reload your (highly inaccurate btw) musket the thing already killed you, while swords are made from steel and yet the things brake after killing one or two Titans (unless the person using them is experienced, then they can make the best out of them)

3:59 I don't disagree, because the game does not explain it, but it's talked about in the anime. That spot on the back of their head that you always attack is like a life point for them kind of, and the only way for the titan to ever die is if it's removed, which is why shooting it does nothing, and you hurl yourself at them because you need to use both swords to basically carve it out of them at 100mph as you pass by. You do that by swinging your swords at the right angle at the perfect moment to get enough speed to break the skin, because titan skin is nearly indestructible.

It makes me glad that his impression of Attack on Titan was fairly positive. Maybe it could just be him experiencing the juxtaposition between it and that Extinction game, but hey more positive exposure for the series is cool.

It's been almost six years, and after finishing Attack on Titan not unscathed of spoilers I finally found it was the safe time to watch the Yahtzee review that I had skipped, because nothing in Attack on Titan can be spoiled for me now. But the video was made in 2018, so like many other Zero Punctuation videos the fun ending animation with small but significant jokes in it can't be viewed, because those videos aren't the same on KZbin and the original website versions that _do_ have the special endings are gone because The Escapist completely wrecked its own Zero Punctuation archive. This case is much worse, because with other 2018 Zero Punctuation videos, at least I saw the original host endings more times than absolute zero. Those minute doses of character and humour at the end of a vast collection of Zero Punctuation videos were a piece of history. We've lost lots of them now. Even though we've famously seen The Escapist do worse, I will never forgive them for this.

Tubuxis The second game is basically a retread of the first, you do not get to play as one of the main cast in the story, tons of boring friendships interactions, the combat felt a lot more tedious and slow with a bunch of gimmick ive never used/needed. Ive personally put over 70hrs in the first game. I got aot2 day one, beated the story and got a full refund. Imo the first one was better with a lot less redundant fluff added.

I recently started lets playing attack on Titan 2 and i have to say it's actually a blast when you get the movement down If i had any actual complaint it's the lack of English Voice acting I'm sorry if i don't understand that a base is going to die and game over me as i'm too busy Micromanaging the crap out of the 50foot Behemoth with semi surgical precision at Mach 2 with variable slowmo
