Nice job, never knew about the indicator on the spar.The physiological effects of “G’s” has always fascinated me. Especially when it comes to the advanced competition and airshow pilots. They trade positive and negative so rapidly. I think most military studies are about the effects of positive and low or zero gravity.

I'm surprised Adam's feet go numb. At 10G blood is going to your feet, I don't care how tight the harness is. I also had a laugh at the updated wiring; we had five mechanics in the shop and I was the only one that knew how to use a multimeter. Take a wild guess as to who had to deal with anything electrical that used so much as a hearing aid battery after that discovery. The 330 looks like a very fun plane to fly.

Did I hear correctly... because some carbon fiber is used in the wing spar, increases temperature can weaken the spar?

John Chvatal Correct, however I think you can still do acro, but not as hard

ErikJohnston I’m kind of curious what G limitation is placed when the temperature is too hot? Maybe Adam will see this comment and reply... I guess I never knew carbon fiber was sensitive to heat...

John Chvatal I never knew that as well. Learn something new all the time!!

flying to close to the sun, will melt your plastic airplane. 😁

The temperature limitation is due to the Epoxy matrix part of the Carbon Fiber Composite. Epoxy has what is know as "Tg" its the temperature that it turns from a hard solid, to a pliable soft sort of plastic. This temperature is typically 160-250 degrees for Epoxy. But it weakens significantly before it gets there. So the maximum safe temperature is going to be around 120-140 degrees. Many composite aircraft are painted white or light colors for this reason. As sunshine will increase the surface temperature more than 50 degrees above ambient for a dark surface. Meaning 150+ degrees on a hot summer day. There are many other options than Epoxy. Most other resins come pre-applied (prepreg) to the carbon fabric, and are baked in an oven or an autoclave to cure solid. Because they are baked at 300-450 degrees, they also can withstand that temp. Its what Carbon Fiber military and commercial passenger jets use. Bismalimide BMI or whatever type they spec. Extra is very far behind the times, it seems. Wood Spars and Epoxy and Carbon Wrapping of Non-Composite components its very 1980's. The New Extra 330 NG looks amazing, though.

Why don’t you have a “G” suit system made up?
@ErikJohnston5 жыл бұрын
andrew Bittinger They don’t pull the G’s long enough to need a suite. The jet fighters can sustain the G pull for a long time giving the blood time to move away from your brain. The prop planes lose energy and it’s over faster.
