Extra Throttle House

Күн бұрын

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR ($56,335 CAD as specced, ~$49,995 USD as specced) is a brand new pickup filled with Toyota’s latest tech. It gets many new updates over the outgoing model, such as rear coil springs and a new infotainment system. But in lieu of a V8, Toyota has opted for a twin-turbo V6 engine in all 2022 Tundra models. Thomas and James are excited to see what the new Tundra is about and if the updates have made any noticeable improvements over the previous generation. We hope you enjoy the episode! Subscribe!!

@@frederickvondinkerberg7721 Fair point! 🤣🤣🤣 Tbf, with everything going on globally, both in general and specifically in the auto industry moving towards EV, trying to forecast residual values is a minefield. It could carry on as it is where demand keeps outstripping supply or if that's fixed and the tech becomes obselete (if battery advances, onboard solar and improved infrastructure make ev the solution in nearly all use cases) then used ICE vehicle value could end up crashing and burning... I was test driving this the other day. Same dealership same day took 3 trucks to do one test drive. 1st one the turbo was cooked before we even left the lot. 2nd one went into reduced power of limp mode about 2 miles from the dealership. 3rd one was fine. All in all find the fit and finish to be early 90s levels. everything feels cheap and re-used from other vehicles in their lineup. Lastly the coil suspension which is why i wanted to give this truck a try was terrible. It felt like it drove like a 15 year old suv with worn out coils. Tested at 62k Canadian I put this truck completely off my list.

I kinda disagree about towing with the turbo v6's. I've had quite a few 3.5 EcoBoost trucks and only one 5.0L. the EcoBoost is at 90% of its torque at like 1700rpm. The V8 is constantly fishing for gears at every little hill or headwind. The turbo v6's pull more like the way a diesel pulls. Fuel economy is awful on either option when towing so that's not really a consideration in my mind. Not too sure on long term reliability as I haven't really had any major issues with either.

Also, why not make it a plug in hybrid with the ability to commute on all-electric. If there's any vehicle that can take the extra weight of the bigger batter it's a truck. Ah yes, shitty build quality, just like the $50,000 supra and it's fake plastic vents. A few grand more and you can get a C8 Corvette with more performance, real vents and aero, and better looks

The biggest scam in the truck market is that you need 4x4. RWD trucks were the standard for years, and the new ones are even MORE capable. Yeah if you live in Alaska or on a ranch I get it, but I will never need a 4WD truck and I drive in the mountains every year

Toyota made a TT V6 for this ugly 55K truck but couldn't make one for the Supra huh? I don't care if the Supra is supposed to come with an inline 6. Id rather have a Toyota V6 than a BMW inline 6

I don't understand why anyone would want to own a normal pick up truck with a gasoline engine. Especially since it's awful for any real work like towing. With 3+ liter diesel engines the peak torque starts at like 1400 RPM and is available to 2000 RMP. In my eyes pick up truck with a gasoline engine is as reasonable as a sport car with a diesel engine.

@@neilgendzwill3260 at least in the states a Tacoma starts at mid to high 20's and can easily go over 40k. A base to mildly specd tundra it's 38-40k. Why buy a taco when the tundra gets the same mpg but offers more everything

@@singular9 we need only 2 things from a truck: tow our RV (5000 lbs) and handle rough roads. We have a 2007 4Runner right now that fits the bill. It’s my wife’s daily driver and neither she nor I want to wrangle a full-sized truck around if we don’t need its capabilities. A Tundra wouldn’t even fit in the garage where we keep the 4Runner. The only thing that fits the bill for new vehicles is the Taco or maybe the Chevy Colorado.

i still find it hilarous people pay extra for Toyotas past history of reliability from the 80s... when in fact modern toyotas arent anything special or different from every other manufactor today... but sure keep driving that Toyota koolaid..

If you’re going to buy a car the last thing on your mind should be screens and tech all of that can be purchased and customised aftermarket which would cost you less than buying a new iPhone. Care about engine, transmission, reliability and capacity those can’t be gotten aftermarket.

hideous plastic frontend, red turn signals, embossed tailgate... And does it have those fucking stupid clearance lights in the front grille that seem to be getting popular now? They should be setting trends, not following them.

Never been so disappointed in a truck! Toyota should stick with suvs and cars. From the looks of this truck, to no tow hooks to engine choices. Toyota had how many years to get it right and they didnt! The truck looks worse in person than it does from the pictures and videos. This truck will not sell well!
