If you do this again in 6 months...and every 6 months, it'll get easier and you'll keep pairing down. it works!

R J - yes this is what I do too! I always do it during the seasonal switchout from fall/winter to spring/summer. Every year, it gets easier and easier to part with things. Also, I’ve started getting any/all special occasion stuff from rent the runway. Of course, I’m past the point in my life where I have “seven weddings in one summer”, so I would not get a lot of wear out of a formal dress. But, using a rental service has eliminated a lot of stress/will I ever wear it again anxiety, and the price is right!

What if one of those handbags ends up in the hands of a young college graduate, who has $2 in the bank, and is about to go on her first job interview. Or for a working mom, who might be struggling to provide for her teenage daughter. They might be shopping together at good will and can now get a fun outfit or a nice curling iron. Think about all the possibilities. It is so amazing that you can gift so much. Such a blessing!! I pray all of the gifted items end up in the right hands. Divine appointments!!

Marlene Flanagan When my mom married my stepdad, she had what she now calls “the tornado” in which she just boxed nearly everything up and took it to the dump. It really solved the issue of where to put things when there weren’t any things 😂 Now that I’m an adult (with four kids, nonetheless) I’ve sincerely considered my own “tornado” - you are 100% seen, my friend!

Marlene Flanagan maybe we need a house swap for a day or weekend. People rummage through each others things, take what they want and be done with it. You could tag items you must keep. Others could say put me out of my misery. I think it's far easier for strangers to go through your crap. Zero emotional attachment. My husband soooooo wants to be the tornado, but I've given him the stink eye when he tries. I'm trying to get out of that mode though. Why is it so hard? I find myself attached to things that have been in family for generations, yet I will never use them no matter how nice. And my son and his generation of cousins absolutely don't want any of it. They're the disposable generation, and maybe they have a point. Baby steps.

I definitely am a cleaning kind of person. I live by a rule of "if I haven't worn it in 6 months, off it goes" aside from winter clothes (while it's summer time) or summer time clothes (in the winter months), then I apply the if it's worn, if it doesn't fit method. I also only have about 7 shirts I wear regularly, 7 jeans / pants I wear regularly... I feel like I have more PJ's than day clothes. But I have moved at least 10 times in the last 10 years including one coast to the other... so having a tiny closet / pile of clothes has been important for me. So for you to do this when you are NOT a clean freak like me? I am so proud of you! It is so hard but so worth it for peace and serenity in your living space and in your mind. GO YOU GIRLFRIEND!

I had fought for many years to keep my “creative chaos”. My husband - who is an organized individual - talked me into the “Kon Marie” process. We have taken each category a bit at a time. In the past year we’ve completed going through clothes, books/media....we still are going to complete all categories. Long story short, I realize the mental hold my extra things consumed. Think I’m moving into more of a minimalist approach to life. It’s a complete change that I have to push myself to do, but i know that decluttering does help to encourage mental wellness. I wish you all the best in this endeavor. 💪🏼🤙🏼 I adore you and love your videos! Thank you for sharing! 🤗❤️

I go through all of my clothes once per season (minimum 2x a year, end of summer, end of winter). It’s SO CATHARTIC. Also, try to keep things color coded, you’ll love it! You know where everything is and you can grab it quickly! Even my tanks that I keep in my drawers are organized by color!! One more tip, every season, flip your hangers to face the opposite direction, and when you wear an item, turn it back the “right” way. At the end of the season, go through the ones that weren’t turned around and decide if you truly need that item. It’s super helpful and I rarely miss my clothes that I donate.

@meghanfeenstra89606 жыл бұрын
I have a super tiny closet so this might not apply to you, but the two biggest things that changed the game for me were getting matching black velvet hangers and organizing by occasion/style then color. The hangers make it so nothing falls off and they are thin which saves a ton of space. Plus they look fancy but you can get a 50 pack on amazon for pretty cheap. I used to organize by color only, but the thing is, when you get dressed you dress by occasion and the weather, not by color. So now I have a T-shirt section and a fancy clothes section, and within that it’s broken down into tank tops and long sleeves, cardigans, etc. that way when I’m getting dressed and I know I want to wear a tshirt, I just look at the T-shirt’s rather than digging through all of my tops. Hope that makes sense! It’s been life changing for me lol

Leighann I am so proud of you! I do a mini closet clean nearly every month. Sometimes I get rid of one thing, sometimes no things, sometimes lots of things! But the point is I try to always keep a mental log of what's in my closet. After getting married I have almost no closet space (as in like 1/4 or less than your closet space) so I can't hold on to stuff just for the sake of it. It honestly has had a positive impact on my mental health that I wasn't expecting. And now I only buy things when I absolutely love them. I also have a loose rule of if something new comes into my closet then something old must leave.

You did a great job!!!! But you will have to go through everything again before you move, especially since you'll know by then where you're going. Please do SEVERAL makeup room videos lol! MamaSays needs to come back to be the support system

For the little odds and ends you may want to get like hanging shoe racks or shelves that hang like a normal hanger so they're at least off the floor and organized. You can also put scarves on a hanger as well.

I love this! I relate so much to this. I feel like I'm really organized in my work life, but my house pure chaos (especially my closet). I'm only lucky that I don't have too much stuff.

I'm on Day 2 of our bedroom and closet spring declutter. I organize by color and height, lol! My boyfriend says I'm better at organizing, so I'm cleaning his section too, ugh! Hope to finish today. For the Sunglasses, I use a clear acrylic multi hanger shelf thing I got at Target. Great job and video!

When you held up the black dress I said "That's what Leighann wore to graduation!" It shows how long I've been watching! Also, I saw a sweater in your donate pile that I bought because you looked so awesome in it. You wore it on your trip to Santa Fe (cream chunky knit/distressed). I also bought the shoes you wore with that. Oh, Leighann... how you inspire me!

If you're planning to take more passes at your closet, you might decide to do them one category at a time- and taking them out of the closet can really help, despite it being simpler to keep them in the closet. You'll be able to see the huge amount of empty space you could have if you got rid of enough of the category, for example your shoes (although the same goes for hanging items!). That extra shelf space could be used to display meaningful keepsakes/photos/etc (like those cute dog paintings!) which make you smile every time you see them, or you could space out singular items so you can see them easier than if they were piled up (bags? sunglasses?). Removing items from the closet so you can see this beautiful blank canvas is key! Keeping on the note of removing items, you can see them in a different context than the closet. For shoes, you can stand them all in a grid on the floor so you can see all of what you have at once without moving your head. Between the ability to see all shoes (regardless of style) at once and your blank canvas you'll have to cover up with whatever you keep, you might decide, "I don't need x pairs of black heels," or "why do I even have y pairs of z I rarely wear?!"

Ahhh yes, your college graduation dress! That’s when I first started watching you! Next, “what was I thinking?!” Guilty of having the same exact dress that I’ve also never worn 😂

Honestly the ‘after’ amount of clothes is more than I have in total but this is such a good transformation! I completely get that it’s hard to get rid of items so welldone!! X

I just declutterd my closet too! Hated every second but it was necessary! I know you said you have a donate pile but would you ever consider selling some items on depop for your subscribers? Just curious, but glad you're donating :) Also never been this early before, yay for working notifications!

i have considered it and that would be a great option for the future but with everything on my plate at the moment i just needed to make it a one step process this time :) thanks for watching and turning on notifications!

leighannsays that totally makes sense!! In the future that would be cool but you have a lot on your plate with wedding details! So exciting :) Also I would love to see you going through your makeup, would be a fun video!
