When I'm cleaning, I look at something and think, "If I saw this, would I buy it?" and if I say no it's trash
@bxbblxtxx77715 жыл бұрын
( Really late reply, I’m sorry) I would do this too, but there are some things that already look really bad but bring me joy. For example: my stuffed animal that I own since I was 2 weeks old (13 1/2 years ago). I can‘t sleep without it but it looks pretty bad compared to how it looked once. Nobody would buy it but I keep it because it brings me joy. Also, if I would clean like this, I would throw away 90% of the things I own and my mother would be hella mad at me.
@luciatat40845 жыл бұрын
bxbblxtxx exactly! :)) I think there needs to be a balance even in cleaning. If you throw everything that is a little bit damaged or used, you get to constantly buy new stuff and you get really tired or spend too much money..:)) I think it is not about having the perfect looking house or closet or whatever...it is about what one truly needs...

Tip for organizing clothes - only get rid of things for the SEASON that you're currently in. In the winter, get rid of winter clothes that you no longer wear, then wait until summer to re-evaluate your summer clothes. It will prevent you from re-purchasing things that you actually did need. Sounds obvious, but it's not a technique that is adressed a lot in these videos.
@KC123443256 жыл бұрын
When you live in Los Angeles, seasonal clothing is not really a thing. But your point is valid for people who live elsewhere.
@erinrd6 жыл бұрын
If you do that you will end up re purchasing the same item you already had
@janetmcdaniel11126 жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound obvious to me. Just bc people don't wear something in the current season they're in, doesn't mean they won't wear it that next year. If people keep getting rid of stuff they'll end up buying back again at a later time.

That’s amazing! I, personally, have never been able to get through it. I have OCD, I’ve been diagnosed for 3-4 years now, and I just can’t do it. I’m not attached to any of it, but I’m just such a perfectionist I can’t get through any task. I once spent two hours organising a 64 deck of cards. Now imagine how much hell I went through attempting to organise my Pokémon cards (a little more than a drawer full). I ended up throwing them all back into the drawer and falling asleep after an anxiety attack. But I want to donate, so I’m going to donate my old prescription glasses. I have four pairs at the moment and I’m going to need new lenses soon, so I’m going to donate the others when I’m there.

Our campus had trucks and donation boxes to send the clean outs to shelters. If you are in the US, you can call 211 for United Way to list shelters in your area. Worn and soiled clothing for fabric recycling can be donated to Easter Seals (drop off bins are listed online) and H&M (and they will also give coupons for 15% off for each small bag of donation). Of course Easter Seals takes usable items too. Congrats on finishing another year!

Some tips I use that can make your closet space look and stay more organized... 1) Match all your hangers. Whether it's all plastic white ones or those sleep velvet-esque kinds, having all your clothes on the same hanger helps everything look like it's meant to be there. 2) At the beginning of a year or a season, flip all your hangers (with clothes) so that they are facing the wrong direction. Then at the end of the year or season, anything that you haven't worn will still be in that position and you'll know to get rid of it.

I've seen so many of these videos but watching yours today Michelle was actually very inspiring to do some organizing of my own place. Not moving, but spring feels like the right time anyways. Love your new place by the way! Wish you all the best and many lovely times and memories in your new home! xxx

I LOVE that the professional organizer is making something so unconfortable like "purging" into something spiritual! Great approach

I'm pretty on point with organization skills. I know where every single thing in my purse is at all times. The way I do my closet is dresses, shirts (sleeve less then short sleeve than long sleeve sub categorized by color and casual/professional style), then bottoms (what I use more goes first and then what I use sporadically goes second with length from long to short as well as casual/professional style).
