I agree with you that people think minimalism and decluttering go hand and hand. Obviously you cannot be a minimalist without decluttering but you definitely declutter without being a minimalist. I have gotten rid of a lot but am no where near a minimalist. You have daughters and can share clothes and jewelry, etc. Everyone has to decide for themselves. ❤❤❤

@@ghofranesalhi7386 I agree with you but when you have a family or even if your by yourself, you’ll always have to keep decluttering to a certain extent because just through living, things seem to sneak into your house.

Refreshing to hear a realistic take on decluttering and the importance of function. I laugh at minimalists who are yoga teachers living in a climate that doesn’t have a significant season change, boasting about how few clothes they need, as if their situation applies to everyone. If you live somewhere with cold winters and hot summers, maybe you have a corporate job, you’re also a mom, and maybe you have a sporty hobby and an active social life. Your wardrobe is going to be sizeable, just for function alone!

Yes! I have three wardrobes, too. I have a uniform for my job, my loungewear for every day at home, and my cute clothes for leaving the house for any other reason. This situation gets ignored in ALL of the closet declutter videos I’ve watched before

Yes, thank you for not making people feel bad for not being a minimalist. I feel there are a lot of videos that kind of make you feel guilty for having stuff. I am totally for decluttering. I do it often but I’m not a minimalist either. I live in Oregon and our weather changes throughout the day so you need layers, 😊. Also like you I need clothes for various reason like yard work, painting, work, comfy clothes and workout clothes. So just thanks again.

Girl, thank you so much for making a decluttering series for those of us who are just a little bit minimal! I 100% agree with you on knowing who you are before a major declutter. I tried to shove myself into being a minimalist because I HATE clutter in my home, I thought it was going to fix all sorts of problems for me. Nope. Sure didn't. I love clothes, hosting large events, and being frugal. It was a pretty brutal wake up call when you don't have enough plates for your guests. I do, in fact, need more than eight plates for my family of four. I will only need 20+ place settings maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Maybe only every other year, but they are still necessary. I found myself needing to buy things I had purged just the year before, and that was such a waste of resources. This time around,I am using your guide as a home reset and deep cleaning. I am sure there will still be lots of items leaving my home, but I am not feeling pressure from you to purge more than makes sense for me and my family. Thank you!

I had an old metal wire thing that has hooks so I turned it in a coat rack by my closet door after me and my husband re arranged our bed room, after it was all nice and neat my creativity kicked in!! I added soMe more lights to our room and later bought new shower curtain for our bathroom, my mind just became really clear and I love when things all come together like that… so yes I now exactly what you mean… I’m working on a lot but not all at once, my pantry is next ! I find that we have been needing to declutter our kitchen for 5 years. I got help with the diningroom and the livingroom but the friend who helped me stay focused, is not readily available for helping out with the kitchen. I have begun by myself 6 times but it is so overwhelming, that I will need to go to the bathroom, take dogs out , feed everyone or 1 of 6000 other things that stops me from finishing. You are most inspiring!! We are not minimalists either.

Winter storm in my town ( new braunfels tx) so I have been home for 2 days. Did my closet. I pulled out 63 pieces of clothes that I don't wear or too big or too small. This has been the 1st time I have honestly looked at my clothes this way. I still have lots of clothes. 😊 I am ready for this month. Let's do this.

I’ve never been a minimalist, nor will I ever be. I declutter twice a year, and everything is in its place. I’m very much a clean freak, so I function better when my home is in order. It’s much easier to keep an organized home as an empty nester. I will say that my 2 adult sons inherited my clean and organized traits. LOL Thank you for another great vlog!❤️❤️❤️

Ahhhh, a woman that has the same three wardrobe issues!! I'm a social worker so I have my work attire, if I'm required to be in Court, I have a 2nd wardrobe for that, and I also have my workout/relaxed wardrobe. I did declutter each wardrobe and shoes during my holiday staycation but I would still love to donate more. I'm retiring in 3/2024 so I'm looking forward to having one closet and no extra hanging racks in another room!!!

I’m on year 3 and I’m still decluttering. I refuse to rush, I’m too busy. I do what I can when I can. Have a box in kid closet mark donate. 1 in our closet, one downstairs in garage . It helps a ton. It’s Feb 3 and I have already made 1 big box drop at a thrift store, books & toys go to daycare. It takes time but a bit here and there adds up. Got my kid has helped me with his toys since he was 3 years later he knows it’s something we do every 6 months. My house is still on a diet, and I’m happier with sell, dishes & sell clothes.

I am so glad you said what you said in the video! I have once made a mistake on "minimizing" and boy I regretted it about 3 days later! I had to be honest with myself, and recognize who I am. At the least with clothes, not a minimalist, but with other items, I can be.

Yes! I too have the same need clothing wise. I garden, paint, lounge, work out, shop and socialize. The clothes just do not work for all these needs so I could never be a minimalist or have a capsule wardrobe. I do try to be more minimal like being aware that I can get by with just black and blue pants so they go with all my tops. And I am learning the value of having less things to keep up with and clean but never plan to be a true minimalist.

I appreciated your perspective on this. I’m one of those people that I don’t think I’ll ever be a minimalist, and sometimes I get the impression from watching other videos that that is a bad thing. I do love spending time in minimalist spaces, but on he whole, it’s just not me. I love a more cozy cottage, collected sort of vibe, I think I get that from the many years of antique hunting I did with my artist grandmother. I need the balance of in between minimal, and cluttered. I try to only keep things that truly are useful, meaningful, or inspiring. The part I struggled to decide on sometimes is if something is truly meaningful, so I have to work harder in that area to make sure I’m not just keeping stuff because I’m afraid to let go of actual clutter (especially when it comes to kids things, or inherited things) . I’m looking forward to following you along this journey! I think your closet, and dresser turned out very nicely, I love all of the beautiful colors you have in your clothing🧡

Your original decluttering series was the 1st one I ever saw during the covid shutdown - it inspired me to start decluttering my spaces. This was while we lived in our motorhome (fulltime traveling our country) - the hardest was clothes for me, cause I like a little more variety than maybe some. Fast-forward to now, we've re-settled into a regular home (started out in CA 12 years ago) in Kentucky. I love that you mention that you don't have to be minimalist but can still declutter the extras. Thanks for the new series! 🤗

I love your conversation about making decluttering your own. I think everyone is entitle to their thing. If fashion and clothing is your thing then let that be your thing. If cooking and baking are your thing, then let that be your thing. But, try to limit the "things" that you have because you can't realistically do it all.

I can totally relate. I have 4 different types of clothes : mum clothes, formal work suits/wear, going out with friends/social nice clothes & lounge wear for home. I'm even between 2 sizes in these clothes as well which makes things more tricky. I guess it's harder when most of the places I used to get my work wear have gone during the Pandemic. Also, it takes me a long time to find clothing I like and fits. I have to get so many trousers shortened which costs loads now. We need 3-4 different wardrobes 😂. Brilliant job. Really inspiring. Thanks for sharing x

There is no hope for me to declutter closet in the winter. Texas winter if you don’t like the weather they tell you to just wait a minute. December through January 😅I had everything from shorts, tshirts, and flip flops one week. Next week bundled up for cold, snow, ice and rain. Coveralls, hats, scarves double jackets with slicker on top. At this moment all seasons are crammed together and it’s a hot mess. This was great, thanks Angie! One idea to share: every January I turn all of my hangers the opposite (or wrong) way. As I wear them and put them away, I turn them the "right " way. At the end of the year I get to see all of the clothes I went through all seasons with and never wore. It's a good indicator for me to see what I should donate.

I read a book in the 90’s that turned my life around. “Simplify Your Life” by Elaine St.James The word SIMPLIFY is a bright note in our vocabulary. It’s not heavy, it demands nothing, it is not a label, it does not define who you are, it does not judge you, is not a verb…it is a slow exhale when you drop your shoulders and look at a tidy room at end of the day and you know that everything in your life is either beautiful or useful. This includes clothing. Clothing is a tool we use, it should not use you. One does not ‘choose’, in day, to be a “minimalist”. It is many many ‘choices’ over a lifetime. By the way, one can be a messy minimalist too. 😮

I got a head start on this one and went through what i have in my closet for winter. Here the seasons change so much I cannot do the rest yet; that's in storage. I have just one small ikea claset I share with my husband so never going to be able to have off season items in it. So for me it is breaking this task up per season. I do relate with having differents sets of clothes, for me it is health related, but I could not have the same clothes for when it goes well and when I'm not. Though I still don't like it much it's simple how it is. I have the same system with teh maybe bins. Amd I keep some formal wear, for funerals and such things in a seperate box in storage. NOt going to wear it regularly but cannot het rid of it. I'm definitely not trying a minimalistic wardrope or even a capsule one but I want to try starting now to keep track of what I have so I don't buy things I don't need. and get rid of things I don't wear anymore. I give myself some sentimelntal bin if I know I never will wear it again but are too attached to it. But looking at it from time to time to see if I feel the same still.

I think something that Dawn the Minimal Mom said is that each person has their own threshold for how much inventory they’re willing to manage. There’s nothing wrong with you budgeting for a certain lifestyle within your means, and deciding for your own self what size inventory you’re willing to deal with. I would DIE trying to organize that much stuff, but we are very different people.

Had to stop and say just signed up but this will be a slow process for me as I have a pinched nerve in my shoulder/back since the day after Christmas and refused to get a steroid shot because I don’t want to shoot my blood sugar up. Finally got in to see the chiropractor on Monday and this treatment will be four weeks and yesterday’s treatment about did me in today. Just now feeling like I can do something. Been so mad the past four weeks that my Christmas tree is still up. Watched your last declutter and loved it. Now I’m down 45 lbs since last Jan and I have things that need to go lol OK this morning to mid afternoon was rough/pain but around 2 it was like Aahh… so got some small routine house work done. A load of laundry and the box for the tree ornaments in the den. If I can get this tree out of my way I can get to work on my clothes. As I said down 45 lbs from last Jan and my sweatshirts I don’t mind being big around the house but not out lol so I’m buying a few pieces at a time. Leggings are ok a little baggy but will make it through this season. I’m gonna need help lol

My favourite tip for decluttering wardrobes is to go through and flip all your hangers to be backwards. Then when you wear something and put it back, put the hanger the right way. Set a time frame (I usually do 1 year so I've gone through all the seasons) and get rid of anything that is still on a backwards hanger! Easy way to see what you are actually wearing

I'm in the rural north of Scotland and glad someone realises that there is a hot ( or in our case a slightly warmer season ) and a cold season, sheds to paint and chickens to feed and gardens to dig, also really funny to see the pile of clothes on the bed move by themselves, what little creature was under there ?😆

I love that there’s a kid with ketchup, under a blanket, in your bed, lounging it up while mama works. Same 😂

Hi! When I worked full-time in an office I had a chart of all the outfits I could make with 4 pairs of slacks, 6 shirts, and 4 nice cardigans. Later, I wore those clothes to a part-time job. Now, I'm 74. I have 3 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of nice slacks, and a few nicer tops and sweaters. I volunteer at 3 places. I haven't worn a skirt or dress in 7 years. Tina, Al's wife

We removed the doors from our walk in closet recently and love not having the doors on it. We won't be putting them back up. We left them open most of the time anyway. We removed the doors from our pantry as well.

I'm doing some decluttering. A little slower than you, but I'm proud of myself. I'm giving away clothes that are too big for me and clothes I got from my aunt's closet. I haven't worn them. I have my mom's things and my daddy's things to get rid of. It is so hard. When I start going through my things, it will be a struggle, but I feel good that the preliminary stuff is going. I washed it up and put it in bags. I don't want things that have been sitting in bags and dirty clothes for four years to go out. They smell good enough to buy from a thrift store.

I have a curtain instead of a door for my closet. It's super convenient and can be really cute. In case it's a solution you hadn't thought of. 🤷

Angie you must have the ability to dig deep and get sheet done. Last week it’s a video about burnout, this week you’ve torn your entire bedroom into shreds. I will say it looks amazing, and very inspirational, I’m just suffering a little bit of video whiplash. Lol. Yes I remembered you saying this series was coming up, but just such opposite ends of the spectrum. And I do remember you doing that video in the old house. You did the entire house in one day. I am still amazed by that feat too. What do you eat for breakfast??? Lolololol!

Angela, How long did this take you to complete? This was relaxing to watch. I love to watch but hate, hate, hate to declutter. While watching, I thought 🤔do I want to go and declutter? A loud voice in my head said, "No!" I just got home and being tired. However, it motivated me to redress / reorganize my bedroom, so I started by choosing where I wanted to put things, and planning when I wanted to start (tomorrow)and finish(this weekend). I'm trying to put in place; one in, one out, because most of the time when I buy clothes, I'm replacing another. Anyways, thanks for sharing.👍🏽

I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe but I also know it's not entirely realistic for my stage of life. I have a 2 year old and 7 month old and we're planning for one more and the sorta normal clothes, maternity clothes, nursing clothes, and clothes i wear the year postpartum it's all over the place in sizes. I just try to clear out things I don't wrst after each sorta phase
