You can ask Google Earth for "Survival Russia" and take you right to it. 58 degrees north, similar to *Fort Nelson* in northern British Columbia, Canada Long dark winters, long sunny summers.

While obviously a contributing factor, the weather considerations have been overblown. Traitors in the OKH simply refused to do their job, resulting in the landser having no winter equipment and being left in overextended and exposed conditions in the winter of 41-42
@SurvivalRussia9 ай бұрын
During that winter, the German Army lost 110.000 vehicles to mud and frost alone. From motorcycles to tanks...
@vladimirk95849 ай бұрын
So you consider incompetent officers of OKH as traitors? Interesting. What’s your NSDAP membership number?
@didymussumydid97269 ай бұрын
@@SurvivalRussia Yes, if Halder sends the troops too far and quartermaster general Eduard Wagner & general Georg Thomas don't send up spare parts, the vehicles cannot be maintained and they are a total loss. It's all documented and reported in books about which of these generals were traitors, mostly at the top. They didn't want to fight the USSR and they wanted their government overthrown, so that's what they did.

@@didymussumydid9726 I don't think it mattered who the quartermaster was. From overstretched railroad resources at home, to different-gauge rails at the border, to plain lack of motorized supply away from the rail lines, etc. It was a logistical nightmare. You may as well say Napoleon would've won if it hadn't been for traitorous quartermasters. Supply lines got too long and were subject to being cut by partisans if they didn't waste more resources guarding the rail lines they captured... Anyway, looking at the bog makes me think of those giant-tired whatchamacallit's that kind of ride on top of water, mud, even fallen trees. It looks impossible, but it's perfect for boggy terrain.

Germany lost WW2 because it was massively under resourced compared to the combined efforts of the USSR, USA,UK and british empire. Same for Japan, the numbers never stacked up. Both Japan and Germany were in desperate strategic situations.......its astonishing that were able to fight on for as long as they did or put any real pressure on the Allies. Its very obvious from post war information that the Allies were essentially being run by the same powerful group of people.........now known as "the khazarian mafia" or more commonly as "The Globalists".

Yes. Trading caravans knew it for centuries before the Mongols. A lot of northern lands could only be traversed in winter. Before the Mongols, there was trade in Peregrine falcons from the far North, and they traveled to and from the northern reaches during the winter. Got all their bird-trapping done at the end of the summer, and raced south, right on the heels of the winter freeze as it moved south.

@HurricaneMiltonsDad9 ай бұрын
Our logging roads are strong gravel roads that can hold out against the elements for a decade or so.@@SurvivalRussia
@SurvivalRussia9 ай бұрын
Every region is different. Of course Russia has gravel roads for logging as well, but not here. In this specific are, we have no rock or stone at all. This logging road is part sand and part clay. The sandy parts are nice and straight. The clay parts not so much. I guess it is more economically viable for the loggers to just maintain the clay parts, rather than having rock and gravel brought in 300-400kmm from here. It's expensive. Also, the logging roads are not used much in the warm season anyway. This is what is called a "winter road." they keep it snow free during winter so it freezes very deep. Haul out timber while it's frozen and work the saw mills during the warm season. II know you are trying to tell me that you are "better" than us. you judge the entire Russian logging and road network, from looking at this one road. Russia is almost twice the size of the US...@@HurricaneMiltonsDad
@HurricaneMiltonsDad9 ай бұрын
Nah, not trying to say that at all. I'm just curious as to why the roads are so bad. It's rare here in Ireland to see a road get that impassable. I guess the sheer size of Russia alone makes it harder to maintain isolated areas in the same way. I'm actually on your country's side in this SMO happening in Ukraine. Thanks for the explanation and details, curiosity satisfied.@@SurvivalRussia

Germany lost in Russia and in Europe too, due to the work of Arthur Harris and his merry men. Who is Arthur Harris you ask ? He's more commonly known as bomber Harris the commander of the British heavy bomber command. It was his work which sent Germany back to the stoneage and crippled the Germans so they where unable to resupply their troops.
@clinnyboy9 ай бұрын
Have to disagree with your comment on why Germany lost in Russia. I'm sure terrain and the vast land mass played their part but it was by far more the fact that their supply line were so extended and often cut that they were freezing and starving plus fighting on two fronts. Both sides fought bravely and there were atrocities committed by most all sides in the conflict and yes including my own beloved USA.
