I am over 60 and need to find a place to start. I use a walker sometimes and need more strength. So embarrassed about how out of shape i am. Fatigue is a huge problem. Hasimotos, lupus and fibro. I HAVE to get stronger. Thanks.

Thank you for this video! Im 50 and have been working out for the past 3 months. I have been trying to figure out what works for me. Ive been trIning with a PT 3 times a week and doing 30-45 min of cardio 5-6 days a week. (I think Im doing to much cardio, but having a hard time convincing myself less is more in the cardio area. Ive lost 16 lbs and 4.5% body fat so far, but the past few days I’ve been REALLY tired so I’ve skipped the gym and just made sure to do minimum 10,000 steps pr day. I feel like its not enough, thank you for saying its good to listen to your body and slow down a bit.❤️🤗

It’s not just menopause. It’s all the emotional weight we women carry each and every day. Most of us are taking the brunt of almost all the caretaking that needs to be done in our families: children, teenagers, aging parents, family members in need, etc., actually the list is endless. For me it’s the emotional toll and also the physicality of doing everything too, cooking, cleaning, running errands to doctors, veterinarians, endless tasks and endless work. We all love our families to the ends of the earth but sometimes that responsibility makes me feel like the ends of the earth!!! Resting is key and trying to “do nothing” is important-vitally important! For most of us women that’s a real struggle- we can’t even fathom what “do nothing” means!!! Kudos and love ❤️ to all my fellow caretaking , loving females. We truly keep everything going!! ⭐️⭐️

I have learned to prioritize my me time! Some of the things we tell ourselves we have to do can wait!!!! I also delegate to my husband and children. I’m no longer trying to do everything! It’s too much!!!

Huge respect to you. I realized I'm not 22,but 52.For me everything in moderation. I watch my portion control, eat as healthy as possible. Gymn 4 times a week, not longer than 45 min. I don't overdo anything. Im in tune with my body.. Unlimited blessings, love, light, harmony, good health to you & all viewers. 💃🤗💜💕

The truth is eat 50 % of your calories for breakfast and 50% by 2 pm. Yes, move 60-90 a day. Yes, journal. Yes - plant base - soluble, insoluble fibre, Yes 7.5-9 hrs of sleep - But for FITNESS - 20 min of resistance training every single day - that s it!!!!! Then enjoy your life. This diet and exercise industry is just money making!!! Keep it simple - and simple is not always easy.

I don't really buy into the industry that much because I know how to diet and exercise for cheap! I do have a gym membership but that's for the swimming pool mainly. I eat mainly whole foods so again my diet isn't drastic.

46 and in perimenopause. I start off the day with energy and complete my workouts ,eat the amount of macronutrients specifically for my body type and fitness goals daily. Typically by 3pm I am wiped out and it hits when I'm at work and I can barely function at that point. And of course that's when my supervisor calls and rambles nonstop not realizing I'm barely even comprehending anything he is saying because I feel like I'm going to pass out .

I'm 41 and I definitely know that I can't over do it when it comes to working out anymore. I'm sticking to 2 full body strength workouts a week and I'm feeling good with that. More than that or doing a split routine just doesn't feel good for me. Lifting every day will wear you out as much as people promote it as the best form of exercise. As far as cardio I'm getting back into jogging because I really like it. I've tried doing the high intensity, full body circuits and while I did that all through my 20s and some 30s, I just can't stick with it anymore. My best advice for anyone over 40 is stick to what you like and what makes YOU feel good, not worn out. Because at the end of the day, every single person is different and we all have different capabilities, needs, desires, etc...

I'm 41, too, and for the last few years, I've been honoring when I've been the lowest in energy in my cycle. So when it's closer to my period, I do a lot of restorative and yin yoga, and going on hikes in nature. I also agree with what you are saying. Do what makes you feel good. Because as we get older our give a damn is also busted, and we want to spend our energy in ways that are fulfilling, not what society says we're supposed to be doing.

Hi Melissa, so great to find your channel. I’m 58 and I’ve decided to start a channel to inspire as well. I entered menopause at 53. And the struggle is real. I’ve gone through so many physical and emotional changes that I just didn’t believe would happen to me because in my twenties and early thirties I was in great shape; I was a trainer and yoga instructor. Then at 37 I had an emergency c-section and changed my career and within 3 months of my daughter being born I became a single parent! Incredible stressful time of my life. I stopped working out. My new career and being a mom consumed me. Long story short, I packed on 70 pounds. I would start working out and get injured or sick sometimes both. I would get discouraged and even depressed. Well for the last year I decided to focus on just getting healthy. I’m looking forward to sharing my story someday soon. For now I just want you to know that I’m happy I found your channel, because I agree with you that you have to constantly look for others that’s doing and being successful at what you’re striving to accomplish. And for women our age we need the support of women that understand and willing to be honest about the struggle. And ladies WE ARE WORTH IT! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Menopause Fatigue is a HUGE factor when trying to just keep it all going! I’m 55 too and any motivation like this to say it’s ok to listen to your body for a few days, even a week off of strength or cardio, is so helpful!! You make tons of sense with all of it on this topic. Much appreciated! 💕

I was struggling with fatigue after having Covid and I found that a good probiotic to be helpful. Good gut health can really help with recovery from an illness

I'm almost 46, and I'm in perimenopause. I have not worked out in months. I have had Covid twice. I am exhausted all the time. I cannot stay asleep at night. Added to that my job is extremely stressful. Then I stress about not working out. I have been trying to give myself some grace and listen to my body, but it is difficult not to beat myself up over it. I really appreciate this video. Thank you!!

Girlfriend you are preaching to the CHOIR. I was on a workout routine for three straight years. I was looking good & pushing myself even when I did not wanted to. However the beginning of this year I JUST STOPPED. I could not make myself do any kind of workout. But after waiting you and getting motivated again. I started back 2 week ago. 🤩 55 is Hard to handle. I am so Thankful to You!!

Same, thank you. 46 and fatigued. I've lost some fat, problem area is belly. I exercise and still have belly fat. I get discouraged and think I can look like this with no effort. Haven't exercised in weeks. I'm going to start back though

Spot on, honest conversation Melissa! Covid did the same thing to me (twice) as well and you are right, you have to rest more until you get feeling better. Hang in there, you are doing great work for our "over 50" community and your authenticity is huge in promoting fitness.

Thank you so much for sharing. I’m guilty of pushing myself even when I’m exhausted because I’m worried about being “lazy”. But I have ended up with injuries and extreme fatigue as a result. So I’m encouraged to hear you talk about how important it is to listen to your body ❤

Thank you for addressing this!!! I am 61 and through with menopause. For years I was upset with myself for not keeping up my fitness routine like I did in my 30's. Now I am getting back into a fitness routine. On the days that I am exhausted, I give myself grace and rest. I know longer feel guilty about resting.

I'm really struggling at the moment aged nearly 55 with exhaustion. My sister who is almost 56 has moderate to severe Alzheimers and I'm struggling to cope with it all. Exercise does help but these days I am doing more indoor walking exercises or just using resistant bands which I find easier to manage. What I've learned from what happened with my sister is that we need to take care of ourselves when we start to see the signs that things aren't great rather than just constantly pushing through as she often did.

I am trying to do modified planks on my knees. I have fibro, lupus and hashimotos. But i have to get stronger. My relative with Alzheimers was told to get exercise.

Hi Melissa, I just turned 57 Aug 13th. I've been fatigued, having digestive issues and working hard to get back on track. The same thing happened in 2018. I went to the Dr. got a clean bill of health. Now again in 2022. The menopause is a journey that is so hard sometimes, but with your help we seasoned woman can get thru it healthier, stronger. Hey everyone please check out vitamin B1. I've been taking it for several weeks now and I'm starting to notice a difference. Exhaustion has been my life due to finding out late in life I had a thyroid condition and then on top of that going through menopause. There are many videos on KZbin but check out Dr Berg's on vitamin B1.

I used to force myself to work through periods of fatigue, considering it a personal failing or weakness, when the truth was, I was depleting my reserves further. Trying to "work through" fatigue or injury is a highly toxic mindset. Now I listen to my body, and while it's disappointing that I sometimes can't work out the way I want, in the long run it's for the better.

@@HuskyTheDog2202 check out vitamin B1. Also Dr Berg has a video on vitamin B1. I believe that will help with your racing thoughts as well as other things such as exhaustion. I'm couple weeks into it now and we'll be getting the nutritional use today to help boost it.

What I have learned is to be kind to yourself and do what you can do no matter how small it is. If you can only exercise for 5 minutes and be satisfied with that for the moment but also check out vitamin B1.

The hot flashes Melissa, the hot sweaty hot flashes are starting to wayne my dedication to working out. I still eat right. Lots of walking. I am getting upset I am losing mass but I feel I just can't do it everyday and keep everything else going. . Glad you're being honest about the situation.

It’s so real this fatigued. Factor in busy family life running around making sure all the kids are ok and you have got a wall that hits hard. I’ve hit it so many times. End up taking months off at a time. But I do eventually go back. Get back in no time when I do and then the cycle repeats. Life is so busy but you got to keep your eye on the long term goal. Fitness for life 💪🏻

Every month, I get extreme fatigue where I can barely move. I’ve never experienced such a thing until hitting peri-menopause. I give myself a hard time - drag myself to the gym and make myself to do a workout. I’m so pleased to hear your advice - I won’t be doing this to myself again.

Yes I am 57 and hv been feeling very low on energy. I was a very active person going to the gym 5x a week. Now I can only handle 2x a week of strength training. I hv engaged a PT to push me thru but I shall start walking my dog again. Hoping that taking good vites will get me back on track. Tq Melissa. Enjoy yr videos very much.

42 yo w/fibromyalgia here - great info! I also choose strength training over cardio when I’m feeling fatigued - and I think it’s important you shared you listened to you body and said “not today” when you needed to - we guilt ourselves unnecessarily, it’s good to hear you share why we shouldn’t!

Not a woman over but 40, but I am going to be 30 this year and suffer from often times debilitating PMDD. The fatigue is REAL, I will feel it all over my body. During my hell week, I would often try to workout and lift, but the moment I started to lift a weight it felt as if my muscles were rejecting it. Thank you for normalizing rest. I often feel like a failure for not having the discipline to workout 4-5x a week during the month and during the dreaded hell week. I feel a huge difference in energy right before I menstruate and after, and I take advantage of my high energy weeks. I find your tips very helpful and aim to be as fit and dedicated as you so I can be a good example for my future children and husband. And I also want to carry good habits with me for the rest of my life.

As someone who went through a medical hysterectomy at 37 and had zero support for two years, my body went into free fall. I am now 43 and finally feel well enough (post covid x 3 as well) and ready to get back on track. Thank you so much for your video's Mel they have taught me so much about what to do (and whay not to do). I'm not perfect by any means, however I'm not beating myself up anymore, I'm listening to my body and letting it guide me. Love strength training and walking too. Onwards and upwards. Our trainer forced us to be taking a break in the middle of the week in order to recover. It has really helped . It’s ok to take a break one week in a while .🙌🏼🙌🏼

Thank you for your transparency and showing the struggle!!! I think really listening to our bodies and instincts is greatly underrated and we forgothow to do that! If you feel really tired, take a break, if you have been craving a certain food, doesn't have to be junk, eat it. If you don't feel like pushing weights in the gym, maybe a walk, a stretch, a meditation is what your body is craving. We really need to learn to listen and understand what body and mind are communicating!

Hi Melissa. I am 4 weeks recovered from COVID and totally EXHAUSTED from working full-time. I am 55 and In menopause, full-fledged. I can’t seem to get enough rest/sleep these days. Almost drive off the road, as my eyes closed, this week. I haven’t been working my HIIT sessions for weeks now and feel terrible, because I’m not working out😞. Thank you for this video. I certainly appreciate knowing I am not lazy👍🏻.

I’m 32 and I was extremely fatigued after covid. I was training for a bikini body comp and lowering calories and had to stop because my body freaked out. I started Back at the gym today, planning to work back up slowly, like you mentioned and keep my calories higher for a bit.

Ditto on the fatigue. Be gentle with yourself. I'm my own worse critic and expect alot from myself because I was a competitive powerlifter for 20 years. I had to set the bar really low for myself and just get my body into a routine of just going to the gym 1-2 times a week even if it was just me driving there gave me a little more hope for the following week. It's taken me almost 2 years to get back to 4-5 days a week for 30-45 minutes a session.

Melisaa, I appreciate your authenticity so, so much. I'm 52, the issue I am having is not fatigue but joint and muscle pain and it is not related to exercise but my weight and the last couple of years of inactivity. I also think menopause has a lot to do with it because in the past, whenever I became deconditioned I was able to recover with not so much joint pain and it would go away completely in a couple of weeks but this continues to linger. I am continuing to focus on my diet, decreasing sugar and increasing protein and doing my weight workouts. Less so with cardio since I think I am probably prone to injury until I can get some of the pounds off.

Oh Melissa! What a perfect video. At 54, I am currently struggling with chronic fatigue and adrenal fatigue because I was working out like a beast. My body finally said stop!!! I had to. Just knowing that you struggle too makes me feel better about taking a rest. Thank you!!

Am glad you are admitting the truth. Exhaustion is a killer, no matter what anyone says. To ask the body to exercise when it CANT is not a good idea. This all passes but listen to your body

Thanks for doing this video Melissa. Fatigue is something I experience daily since perimenopause. I'm tired of hearing myself say I'm tired 😅 the best thing that works for me is taking time out of chores etc and resting

Thank you thank you Melissa! I went from walking and/or stationary bike every day & 5 - 10 minute hiits 2-3x a wk from 2019 - Dec 2021 - then I wanted to do nothing! I wanted to cry, I had no energy for family, household chores, and definitely not working out! I thought something was wrong with me. I didn’t know fatigue was a symptom of menopause. Every woman needs to know this and get their families to help out more! Just a thought, but it makes me think of the show hoarders and how many of the women on that show probably are menopausal and are experiencing extreme fatigue!🧐

This was very helpful for me. I've just turned 50, but having major issues with fatigue. Each time I try to go over an hour workout, I feel unwell and I've been wondering what's happening to me. Thank you so much for this, I’ve been feeling like an absolute failure, because every time I start a moderate workout routine, we’re talking every other day, by the fourth or fifth day I am so exhausted I can’t start back on it for another week… I’m not super concerned about Body fat, I spent most of my life underweight, so I welcome a little extra pounds :-) but, my strength really needs to be increased and I want to feel strong again. Just frustrated that I can’t get past this. Thank you!

OMG Melissa , I totally needed to hear this. I am 50, and some days (today!) I feel totally and utterly exhausted, like absolutely no energy to do anything whatsoever. I was feeling so so guilty and useless for not exercising. I am totally going to follow your advice. You have been such an inspiration for me for the past coupme of years now. I agree. Listening to your body makes a difference. Injuries and sickness is NOT worth it. I am a teacher. So, summer work outs are more frequent than when school is in session. I miss my walking most of all but it’s just not POSSIBLE after teaching 800 kids (actually more than that) per week.

Hi Melissa, I’ve just found you’re channel. OMG! Thank you ❤️. I’m 53. Two years ago I was a size 8, walking, weight training loving exercise, my body & in the BEST shape in my life. That all ended when I hit peri-menopause 😔. I’m now a size 14, low moods, low energy, hate my body, don’t like who I am anymore. I just want to be ME again. I’ve just recently found out I’m low on folic acid, so that will explain the extreme tiredness. So glad I’ve found your channel & now going to binge watch. Slowly but surely, I’m hoping to get back to being me. Thank you. Sending you luv, health & happiness ❤️🥰x

I’m 54 and I can say, now that I am on hormonal therapy weeks after being on it, I’m loosing weight, and I’m eating pretty healthy, and I’m doing exercises 3-5 times a week moderately , drink water only, get rest, have some type of spirituality and I promise you will see a difference.

Thank you for speaking about this! I am just so tired some days. I am 44 with 5 kids (ages 15-6). I homeschool and cook all our food. I also garden and we have a farm. And it seems like at least one of our kids is playing a sport every season keeping my schedule full. This past year or so I just have not had the energy to do much. I’m in perimenopause (haven’t had a period in 70 days now). I’ve also been having night sweats . This is a tough time! I have had so much guilt over not working out. But I feel like if I focus on myself, I don’t have the physical energy or mental space for my kids and husband. I do get my steps in and eat well, but I’m still about 20 lbs heavier than I should be and I can actually feel myself getting weaker. I guess I just need to roll with the punches and lift when I have the energy. Again, thank you! I’ve had a lot of guilt. And I think as my husband has tried to encourage me, it’s pretty difficult for him to understand that it’s a fatigue I just cannot push past.

I have been exhausted...I am much older. I have just been good to myself, not beating myself up. I know I will get back. Sometimes your body is telling you slow down... I listened. I don't beat myself up anymore. Just going to bed early, doing some things I want to do. Just relax.

Thanks for your honesty Melissa. I'm through menopause - 2 years. I'm on the carnivore diet and I feel so much better. I have great energy levels, and all my digestive issues have cleared up, and I know it's due to being carnivore - food for thought for you! :-) I wish you all the best, and the same to all the viewers going through the same X

It’s important to take a rest and listen to your body. Thx for this! We will actually make better gains if we allow ourselves to recuperate both mentally and physically. When I started a college course that was intensive and daily for 8-10 hours a day, I was compelled to slow down my training. Everything was overwhelming until I acclimated to my new schedule. After a week or two I got back into the routine of working out but the short hiatus was beneficial for my well being. Also when I’m feeling more tired - I Hike instead of hitting the weights and it’s very therapeutic plus I get fresh air and vitamin D. Wish you all well! Thx Melissa!

Thank you for sharing this video! I have experienced fatigue for the last 10 years, but it doesn’t stop me. I listen when the rest is needed. My energy is at a peak morning until around 2:00pm, then I must rest, sometimes only 20 minutes, sometimes for a few hours. Increasing my protein helps. I only do body weight exercises and biking, hiking and light weights. I build muscle easy, but belly fat remains. I think my fatigue is from mono I had as a teenager for 6 months, chronic fatigue syndrome, although my fatigue is improved with a higher meat diet. I was vegan, eating a lot of beans, and the fatigue made me have to lay exhausted for 4 hours every day! Always listening to the body is good, not beating myself up about it and thinking positive.

Thank you Melissa! I turn 55 tomorrow and haven’t had a period in four months. I have been struggling for a while now feeling extreme fatigue, anxiety, depression...and I totally spaced the fact that these are all symptoms of menopause! I thought I was just letting other life stresses get to me, but I’m in the middle of a huge change in life. I need to give myself permission to slow down, sit with the feelings, and accept that I might not feel better tomorrow either, and it’s ok to give myself some grace. Thank you so much for your helpful advise. I'm 59 and so I'm post menopausal since age 50 my cycle stopped abruptly. And I too have gone through cycles of fatigue since. I'm much better now. I've always had an exercise routine and I listen to my body when it says rest I rest. But most days I'm doing my thing. I too had covid. When I'm high on energy I do more,when I'm a bit low. 38 with lupus, RA and RSD. Had 2 broken feet in the last 3 years and an incredibly emotionally abusive 6 yr marriage that I left over a year ago. I dread the additional levels of exhaustion to come on top of all this. I push throught too hard too often but my sweet spot seems to be gentle walks and a few weight sessions per week and eating healthy and lots of water. And of course, keeping up with doctor appointments and meds, etc. And however you best cope with stress, DO THAT! Good healthy coping skills and habits are so important.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things getting away from the abuse and healing from that. Also walking doing what you can do not what you would like to do. It's being kind to yourself. I would suggest checking out vitamin B1 there are plenty of videos on KZbin on it.

42 here and I sometimes cannot do a workout. I’ll still go and do a 30 minute elliptical session to boost my mood and scale down to 2 weight training days a week. Rest is best. Some times we need deep rest.

Thank you for this video. I have chronic fatigue and now mid 40’s I struggle so much with energy. I don’t put on weight but I’m desperate to tone up and get strong but any cardio will trigger a relapse and I feel like each time I start feeling I’m getting somewhere with strength training If I get an illness it can knock me for weeks and get frustrated see all the progress lost. Just so nice to know I’m not the only one and it’s ok to rest.

Best thing I ever did to combat fatigue, especially post menopause, was to quit processed foods, especially carbs. I don't stay off them religiously, I have them a couple times a week for pleasure, but keeping off them for the main part has helped enormously with getting rid of brain fog and generally feeling unwell.

Amen sister! It’s okay not to feel okay.. Thank you for bringing menopause fatigue to light. I know we are not alone with these experiences but it’s natural sometimes that we feel like it’s “just in our head” Just last week I was saying to someone that I was tired and “off my game” more than I ever felt. I’m 52 and I forget about the underlying issues my new season of life brings.

I can’t speak as to covid, but I found that my non-covid fatigue was due to a lack of restorative sleep. I found vitamin supplementation helped, for fatigue and muscle recovery I found magnesium helpful AND that I had to allow more time for muscle recovery. No more daily workouts, now I need two or three days between serious workouts.

High Intensivity training is not always the solution, finally someone raise this point! Thank you! I kept up with the men in in the gym, but I felt so weak afterwards and my body just didn't recover nor did it build muscles, I just got slim fat. No weight lifitng changed that. Due to lock down, I had to stop going to the gym *and guess what, my bottom and my breasts lifted up again*

Oh goodness yes! I have been thinking I'm just getting lazy or something. I work all day, then go to the gym and I'm exhausted. I'm 53, so this makes so much sense. Thank you ...now I know to listen to my body and give myself a bit of a break. 🥰. Keep moving, fuel up and get a few strength training in each week. 👍🏻

Fatigue is something that has been affecting my life. I find a need to pace my energy to cover all I need to accomplish in a day. One thing I know is if I drop my excess weight and replace it with muscle I will be more energized.

I saw your video short! I think you definitely overtrain a bit- be careful prone to this myself and it’s easy to do- then the body fights back :-( I lost 3 weeks of gains - got Covid/sick and just had nothing to give. Sucks but I feel like I’m completely starting over! But dammit I’m not giving up!!! I will reach my goal

I’ve been really fortunate. At 54 I’m am peri menopausal but not experiencing too many symptoms. I am vegan and eat WFPB. I think that really really helps along with plenty of carbs for energy and I’m a personal trainer on my feet and working every day for 6+ hours of workouts.
