Been lurking for a while, thought it high time I subscribe. Quite eerie watching this video and listening to your weather report, we had very similar conditions today on the other side of the Atlantic - cold but felt warmer than the thermometer indicated due to high humidity and we had clear blue sky. River was like a millpond, and watching the ducks floating along was just the same as seeing the ducks on your video! I live pretty much next to the River Thames in the UK, generally go for a daily walk by the riverside and have always been a bit of a ship fan. Since the London docks closed many years ago we don't get the big ships along my stretch these days apart from the occasional cruise liner or navy vessels. Enjoy watching your videos as these huge lake freighters navigate the canal, must be awesome to see them so close up in real life.

Pete, your message truly humbles me, and I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to share such kind words. I’m familiar with the River Thames, I had the chance to visit London years ago, and it left a lasting impression. I’d love to return one day and experience it again. It’s great to hear you’ve been enjoying the videos, and I can promise you this, the channel will always remain a positive space. No matter what’s happening in the world, we’re here to have fun, share good vibes, and enjoy the journey together. Wishing you all the best, my friend from across the pond!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍👍👋👋👋👋👋

Your winter video of that huge ship coming into Duluth is wonderful. Everyone looked fine watching that ship come in on that cold day. Everyone knows to dress for the weather even below freezing with snow. Growing up in northeastern wisconsin I remember layers of clothing seemed to be key. However, I remember my feet were always cold in the winter. They only time they were warm was in bed. I do remember ice on the inside of my bedroom window on the coldest days. We had only single pane windows with storm windows. I do remember big winter heating bills. We went to the home improvement store and bought many bags of vermiculite insulation pouring them into the attic. After adding maybe another 6 inches of insulation our heating bills dropped by over 30% right away the next winter.

They were like many islands. I’m sure a person could stand on them. But I’m not going to try it. It looked really cool though.

Hello @Vibe with Mike. I can’t believe that the shipping season is almost over. I hope you are able to join us for the last ship through the Soo Locks! Pari Ann

Pari Ann, it’s always sad when January approaches because we know those ships will start moving. I will try to get as many as I can before they end.

Very interesting Mike, to see that this shipping traffic is still going, despite the harsh winter time in North America. And on the Great Lakes. Thought it was mostly paused until April.. Now it's a dark night here in northern Europe, it's about 02:00, and minus 14 degrees outside... And half a meter of snow. A horrible time that one can only hate..

As per federal orders, the Soo Locks close on January 15 and re-open March 25 every year. During this time maintenance is performed on the chambers. Although there are occasional exceptions, such as ice, these two dates are pillars for shipping season in the Great Lakes. As soon as the clock strikes midnight on March 25, freighters, tugboats, luxury crafts and more can resume lockage between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Check this article for a little more information about the process. saultstemarie.com/shipping-season-starts-soon-in-sault-ste-marie/

@@vibewithmike Okay, of course. But, guess the coast guard or others with special ships, can open streets in the ice if they see the need ..
@vibewithmike4 сағат бұрын
@hauk65000 that is correct, Coast Guard can always move around

There is my man Bill! How are you doing, brother? Please say hello to Claire and your wife. Some light snow was coming down during the video and there should be a few inches in Duluth tomorrow. There’s nothing like that Barker bark.

Magical sparkles glinting in the weak sunlight. I know I am in a minority when I say the horn just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer the horn of the Clarke or even the Sykes. Just an old school girl. Glad yourekeeping warm. So sad season is almost over. Hope
@vibewithmike2 сағат бұрын
You’re right, the Sykes is a beauty. I hear that horn is getting a little work done this winter. There’s nothing more awesome than watching any of these ships. I love the power of these horns.
