He left her (and the hoarder house they own together) and got a new place and she followed him to the new place. Wo they pay over 2k a month for a house that is being used a storage facility. @@pippadawg7037 I believe it has more to do with mental health issues leaving you feeling as if you are not good enough to make a change. And due to this, the poeple in the hoarder's life suffer and come to hate them, and the hoarder has no hope in themself, so they don't feel like they deserve love from their family either. It's a never-ending cycle, and if a person is willing to live among mountains of garbage, feces, and urine, and not care about their own health and happiness, why would they care about the same things for the people around them? It's not really selfishness (although it can involve selfish behaviors) - but it's more about a detchment from the self, from self-love and from love from others. It's a terrible thing.
@ericaschaidt8588Ай бұрын
@@pippadawg7037it’s inaccurate to say that alcoholics have a higher likelihood of recovery than hoarders when you look at the data/statistics which show the recovery rate of hoarders and addicts/alcoholics to be roughly the same. Based on a rudimentary Google search, the recovery rate for hoarders is between 60-80% while the recovery rate for an addiction is about 75%. Alcoholics and hoarders who don’t get treatment to work on themselves and their issues are very selfish individuals. Even though that sounds like I’m saying that those who have a mental illness are selfish or that having a mental illness makes them selfish that’s not the case a mental illness isn’t what makes the individual selfish, it’s how the person handles their mental illness that can make them selfish. A person can’t just use their mental illness as an excuse to harm themselves and those around them.
@ericaschaidt8588Ай бұрын
@@perfectlyimperfect9129I agree that hoarding is a mental health issue and while the hoarder may not be trying to intentionally hurt the ones they love the truth is their hoarding *does* hurt them. How the hoarders themselves approaches their mental health issue(s) is what, in my mind, determines how their family members and those affected by the hoarding should handle the hoarder and hoarding situation. The long and the short of it is if a hoarder is trying to seek help and treatment and aren’t just using their mental illness as a shield to excuse away their behavior and hoarding then I wouldn’t say they’re trying to hurt their loved ones. It’s the hoarders that sit there day after day, changing absolutely nothing about themselves or in their lives that imo are responsible for the harm they inflict on the lives of their loved ones/family. It’s frustratingly disgusting for a hoarder to constantly negatively impact their family only for them to hide behind the shield they’ve built out of their mental illness. They place the entirety of the blame for their situation on their mental illness, rather than accept even an iota of responsibility for how things go the way they got.

Drugs cause even more problems in most instances. I know from yrs of experience. I know. You need Christ and His word daily. Trust in Christ . Repent of sinning against God. We have all fallen short of the glory of God. God created you. He knows you best. God gave you His word to heal your heart and sanctify you. Trust in Christ who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead the 3rd day and ascended into heaven where he now sits at the right hand of the Father to mediate for our sins. 2Timothy 1:7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Proverbs 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. John 14:6 Jesus said "I am the way the truth and the life. Noone can come to the Father but through me. Romans 10:The Word Brings Salvation …8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.…

Find someone in your area that is a trustworthy reseller of items and clothing, invite them to come into your home with the intent that they will buy a large bulk of items. If you don't voice the plan out loud and initiate a step forward, you will continually, for months and years put the task off, put it off. Stop losing all these years and peace you can and will have. Once the ball gets rolling, it will keep rolling. Step out in faith and ask others for help, and pay others for help. You could even pay people with barter system. Patricia, owning it is half the battle. Being embarrassed, knowing it's not right, they're all good signs. You have plenty of reasons why your place is in the state it's in, but you now need ru look forward, and stop beating yourself up on getting here. You will need help, there are professional cleaners on tik tok that will empty and clean hoarders houses for free, without the occupant being shown, and they love this stuff, they do it without judgement. If you can be part of the tidying process, that often works to not allowing this to happen again, because you know what its like to do that break back cleaning. But if you can't, that's OK too. You might not be physically able to, but bigger than that, you might try to stop them throwing rubbish out. Let it all go. I promise the feeling afterwards you'll have, and the life you'll get to live again will be more rewarding than that stuff. You can do this ❤

@@EricNorthman-h2f you're right, my father in law has been a hoarder since he first lived on his own in his 20's. He's now 70. This is a mental health issue. Please get these hoarders some real psychological help... this can get better with therapy. This is due to loss experienced by the hoarder & there impulse is to keep everything & they cannot throw anything away...even if it's broken, useless & dirty. Throwing stuff away will not make things better...it will make the hoarding behavior worse

Keep at it. I've not got many years left and can't leave my things for my young relatives to deal with. I see something and put it in a hallway I go thru constantly, then put it in a box and the day before good weather is called for into the car and next day off we go to the charity shop. Things are disappearing from the basement, the kitchen (I don't cook much anymore), the bedroom (too many pillows, blankets and linens), the office, etc, etc. Enough drops will fill the bucket or empty it.

My ex mother in law was the same. Even had dried dog and cat poop smashed into the rug everywhere. One time we decided to clean the living room for her because it was literally just trash and old newspapers stacked taller than the dining room table. Afterwards she got angry saying we threw out her newspapers from the 80’s. I explained they were soaked in cat pee but she didn’t care. After that I considered her a lost cause and never returned. Over 20 years later my ex husband told me nothing’s changed.

It’s a mental disorder, a compulsion that is really difficult to control and like other addictions it is often resistant to treatment. It does harm and spoils childhoods. Really sad. These people do this often in response to traumas. They have the courage to go on Dr Phil despite the humiliation either because they want to change or they want to salvage relationships. They suffer too.

I believe in many cases hoarding isn't fixable. You can clean a hoarders house and as soon as you turn your back they will fill it back up again. Their junk means more to them than any human relationships. Unless they are willing to go on medication and have frequent therapy and work with a professional organizer continuously- they will not recover.
@dennaking36112 ай бұрын
There’s no way to really clean a hoarders house because if you make a spot, they will absolutely fill it again and make it worse than before so it’s a sickness and you have to take away the credit card and take away their ability to hoard
@dennaking36112 ай бұрын
Well, you are the problem you need some mental help. You need some happy pills but this hoarding is also laziness leaving things laying around being dirty. I’m gonna say 75% of the population has this problem?
@ericaschaidt8588Ай бұрын
That’s just it. If you watch a clip from Hoarders on KZbin so many of the comments on the video are people saying that the hoarders family should just empty out the house. They question why the organizers snd therapists on the show just don’t make the hoarder toss things, or question why they allow the hoarder to run the show and at times bring the cleanup to s complete halt. What they don’t understand is that while the family *could* just empty the house, the hoarder will just fill it right back up as you guys said. There’s a lot of different information regarding the recovery rate for hoarders. Some sites said the recovery rate was 20-50%, some said 60-80% so, hoarding isn’t unfixable regardless of which statistical information is correct. The issue isn’t whether or not hoarding is fixable, it’s whether or not the “fix sticks”. According to a couple sites the recidivism rate for Hoarders who aren’t being treated is nearly 100%. So hoarding can be fixed, but there’s a way to go about that fix that increases the chances of actually achieving recovery and avoiding recidivism. It’s a constant battle that requires dedication and hard work to achieve and maintain.
