I knew them. They did work amd had a very successful car business. Andrew struggled with drugs and Justin was just a lot. I'm not making an excuse for them but theu actually were pretty successful and would just mess it up. They were super spoiled.

My two sons migrated back home after the Oregon wild fires destroyed all 3 of our homes. They were renters and I owned my home and land. My home was rebuilt with insurance and we are now building them each a cottage on my property. It has been a wonderful experience for me and hopefully for them as well. They each will have an unencumbered home to live in and my house can be income property when I die. We are all grateful for our circumstances unlike these brats…..

My oldest son is 20. at 19, after high school, he was tired of school and wanted a break. He’s an adult now so he can make that decision on his own. He went out, found a full time job and moved out. He has never asked us for money or help. When he was 15 he could do everything on his own. He washed his own clothes. Can make his own dinners or whatever he wants and he was tough how to clean properly. I am in shock over these two grown “toddlers” The police would be here if I had a situation like this.

This is insane!! We gave my grandchildren spending money when they were in college however they were told they had to have summer jobs to get our help. We raised our two sons the same way. PRAISE GOD they all turned out GREAT! It is not easy but tough LOVE worked 100% for my family.

In my house I have always had clear rules and my 3 children are polite, helpful and decent. They never drink alcohol (18 here in Norway) and they work hard. Even my daughter who’s still in high school has a job in the weekends and she saves most of it for when she is ready to move to her own place. Put some effort in raising your children and I am sure you will have decent adults when they grow up. It’s comforting to hear from people like you who have great grandchildren with good values. So, I moved out like most young people. Lived my life. Moved away to a capital city to get opportunities to work. Married. Had a child and bought properties. Bought rentals. Had a business. Then! Parents got old. Wouldn’t move from their home. Couldn’t looks after themselves anymore. Refused help from agencies. Old. Set in their ways. Had their reasons. So! Now divorced and on my own, move BACK to my old home town, moved BACK into my old room, and cared for them for 14 years until until my father death. In their house. Under their rules. Using my own saved money as I didn’t qualify for carers payments from the government. My mum is 91, now living in an assisted home to give me back some life. Did I do the right thing? I think so. Did it cost me a huge chunk of my best life? Totally! My health is wrecked. And I’m old now myself, with limited ability to look after myself now. Children not moving out is one thing. Parents expecting children to take of them in THEIR old age another.

When you've raised your kids properly they will WANT to go out on their own. My son got a job as a band musician at age 20. He said to us "I love you guys, but I want to live on my own." We were so happy for him! He rented a small studio and moved his stuff there with the help of a few buddies. He went on to make a success of his life. Now he's touring with the Gipsy Kings and other groups. He's also composing music for studios and musical enterprises. He has a lovely lady and they've given me two beautiful grand-daughters! I'm so proud of him...

However, you obviously need to be told a few things. 1) Susan did not say, nor imply in the slightest, that ANYONE (Including herself) is a "Perfect parent". 2) Even if there is/ever such a human ever in existence (a perfect parent), there is light yrs of space in which to to operate btwn perfection & mentally/emotionally crippling one's children/teens. 3) Basic common sense/ logic dictates that, when someone makes a comment like Susan's, any reasonable person knows that its meant to be taken in a "generally speaking" way, as per observation & life experience. 4) Susan's point is entirely valid. If you raise your children to be prepared for adulthood, it creates their natural eagerness to move out & become the headship of their own home. It's simply the natural order of things. Of course, like everything else in life, there are a few exceptions, but so EXTREMELY few that no one should have to point out that they're speaking in general terms. 🎉Of course, there are always going to be ppl who get offended bc they feel guilty for having been a parent who crippled their kid(s) to some degree. Whether they refuse to or legitimately do not, or even are not capable of identifying where their part is in their childs condition is irrelevant. Even some professionals have a hard time pointing it out if the parent is in deep enough denial. However, theyre easy to spot: They're the ones who clapback with such defenses as: "i did the best I could" or "No one is Perfect" or even drag other ppl into it "I know the most amazing parents on the planet & even THEIR kid(s)"...etc., the worst of the worst take it out on others, and usually with anger& petulant, totally uncalled-for, snarky sarcasm like "Must be nice to be a perfect parent", like yours...Apparently not realizing that all they're doing is advertising their woeful lack of maturity on the global stage of s.m.). I advise against such behavior, SARAH. Despite changes in social rules, basic human nature patterns remain consistent. CAVEAT: There are cultures in which the family stays co-habitating, even after the adult child marries & has their own children. Many native American cultures come to mind. Even in those cases, there's a point in which the patriarch & matriarch pass the torch down to someone of the next generation. That satisfies the human nature I've (TRIED TO) explain to you. You, CLEARLY, owe Susan an apology. Of course, it's not to be expected from someone of your unfortunate lack of character, but I'm throwing that in with the litany of other facts, anyway, for what it's worth.

This is truly something, cause I know someone who is 27, and at home, paying all the bills, just so his momma can live comfortably on her disability and help take care of his grandmother with dementia since the state isn’t of any assistance, and he hates that he doesn’t have his own place at 27, but even with a decent job, he can’t afford rent cause it’s so ridiculously dam high now. Then there’s these two dudes. It’s sad to have so much assistance given and resources available to you just to spit right on them. Hope they got moved out.

When I was 9 years old (in Mexico) my father who was a humble carpenter, started to take me to his job (in holiday and vacations of school) and I hated him because I saw the other children, neighbors and others playing and laughing and all of that while I was going to work, but my father didn t put me to work exactly, he just wnated (I guess) for me to learn to love hard work, and that s what happened, I learned that if you want something you had to work for it, now I am grateful to him because he teach me that and other good lessons of life, now that I am old I think that I had the best father of the world!

I couldn't wait to turn 18 so I could move out if my parents house. At 17, my mom told me if I didn't like her rules, I was free to leave. I was like REALLY? Moved out at 17, got my associates degree, got married, raised 4 kids and now get to enjoy my grand babies. Maybe if parents actually focused on parenting instead of being their children's friends, the kids would leave.

If I could go back 30 years and come-of-age in the 80s or 90s that would be a dream come true; the cost of living is just utterly insane now. I shudder to think about what young adults 30 years from now will have to deal with!

I know a family like this. Two sons. The sons are in their 70s now. The parents have died. The suns have destroyed the house and there’s always five or six cars in the driveway. Neither of the sons ever worked.

When it comes to those twins I would be a little nervous about the parents safety. And when it comes to that other young man just the fact that he would not donate his kidney to his mother who is doing everything for him and gave him life, shows that he really is a scumbag. That should have been an eye-opener for her. He's the only one that didn't check to see. And he's the only one draining her of her future because she needs her money to survive as well. And he is sucking her dry 😡

When I was told years ago that I might need a kidney transplant 7 of my 8 children (including one that was only 13 at the time) offered me a kidney. Thank God I haven't needed it so far. It was sad to see this.

My daughter lives with us. She is 34. She is great helps around the house pays rent. watches our house which is a complicated country home while we go on vacation or camping or bike riding she takes care of all the animals. She works a full-time job and a part-time job. We are getting on in years so she is a great blessing. Not all children living at home is a bad thing she’s been able to pay off all her bills, her car everything while maintaining a savings account and being financially solvent. She could never do this, living in a tiny apartment that cost a fortune, in our home, she has a pool, beautiful yard and her very own spaces.

I'm 71 and when I was 18 I told my parents that I was moving out, my father cried and my mother told me not to do it but I still moved out. They came from a culture that says you don't move out until you get married. In Australia we call them BLUDGERS.

The father crying and saying he doesn’t want to do it “the hard way”. Thd boy literally just said “he’s maturing slowly and learning to respect them in his time”. If my kid said that…out in his ear…cop assisted if necessary. And he is my only son and my world. But he will not disrespect me like that. This poor couple have allowed this ! But I feel bad bc they don’t want to hurt the boys. They love these kids too much. These parents are old enough that one of them could literally die at any minute. Then the boys would no longer have the time to “learn to respect them”. Sad sad boys. They’re just gross humans.

The kid who steals to pawn is easily stopped. It's a crime to pawn stolen goods. File a report and stop him. They're enabling him. The charges he is whining about are misdemeanors. That won't stop him from getting jobs. So, being threatened with a felony for defrauding a pawn shop would have helped. I'm betting 13 years later he has a lengthy record.

My parents weren't rich, didn't own a house so my brother and I had to move out anyway. But honestly, if those people would have been my parents, I would have done anything to get this guest house, pay them a rent and have a great life on this gorgeous property. As you said, those parents are to blame as well, they didn't raise their sons properly, otherwise they would have behaved far better.

I love my boys, both similar but different as well. Between cars, motorcycles, loss of my garage space, and people coming and going all hours of the night smoking weed and wasting their lives, we both as parents had enough. We told both you needed to go.. Amazingly, both have made huge leaps and bounds and both purchased their own homes, 1 has a great 6 figure job the other works with kids in a IT capacity AND both doing great. The push out the nest only made them better.

My son did this to me and my husband and I had his cable box disconnected from his tv. Every time we would mention going to work he would lash out at us. He was sneaking alcohol in the house and he would be so drunk that he didn’t know what he was doing. He even tried to break up our marriage because he accused his father of being sexual towards him while I was in the hospital with broken bones. I really need to talk to him about this or even his wife because she knows what it’s like to be married so long. He is our natural son, but after the car accident he has changed so much. 😢

@@murialgoldman5670 we did that and we had to call the police to help us out because he was so manic that he was screaming at us and he screamed at the 911 operator to help him! He went upstairs to get our guns and we were so scared that he would kill us and then himself. Our house was surrounded by swat rifles and they told him to come out of the house and he was arrested. He has been through drug and alcohol treatment and now he’s in a sober living house with other men. He doesn’t even call us to see if we’re okay and to just keep in touch. We only have one son and he doesn’t seem to care about us anymore. Oh well he is old enough to know how to communicate with us if he wants to.

@@KZbinr5775-Give him time. If he truly goes into the recovery process, he will come to you with repentant words. You cited two things that could have created some of these uncontrollable behavior issues. An accident (which could have affected his brain functioning) and substance abuse (which DEFINITELY affects brain function). Good luck..try an AlAnon program to help you figure out how to conduct yourself when dealing with this sort of behavior problem in a loved one. They won’t teach you to change your loved one, only how to change yourself, but that will make your interactions more productive.

My husband made our kids want to get out on their own by doing a variety of things. First he expected for them to get jobs, and find a way to support themselves; he gave them chores to do, and kept after them to keep their rooms, and the house clean.

I think it is fine to be living at home at 25, i was 26 when i moved out... I also live in Sydney where the cost of living is ridiculous so it is understandable. It is the disrespect that is the problem.

My son, his pregnant wife and my step daughter lived together and it was wonderful. We laughed , cooked, cleaned and hung out together while their condo was being built. It was so good that they build a bigger home we have been invited to move in with them. Families are forever and it takes accepting each other as well being easy and not so judgmental.
