Now I’m hoping to see you lobster this season. The Flywater is proving to be a versatile little craft. I’m surprised how well it did in the chop with both of you and all that gear. Andreas took that run like a champ especially considering he was sitting on the deck with all that splash. Even with all that gear bending the craft slightly it still looked like it was shedding water enough to keep only a couple inches in it. Can’t wait to see what adventures you have in this inflatable next. Mini season is crazy. We would put in at Islamorada the night before and shark fish overnight then switch to lobstering at midnight the minute mini season opened. We were in the shallows around Rabbit Key on the Florida Bay side. We would limit out and as we were heading back in the mass of boats were on their way out to lobster. During regular season the lobster are a little more skittish so you use the tickle stick to flush them out of their holes. Just be careful, I flushed a Moray eel out once. It was not happy with me!

Is there anything like scuppers to drain the deck? I have crashed through large waves running in our ship channel in my slayer and although I got wet the hull drained the waves promptly! The biggest weak spot in typical rotomolded kayaks, in my opinion, is the hull access points leaking and the water remains in the hull!

There is no need for scupper holes on this boat, water was only on the deck because we kept taking waves, did yiu watch the end? I did a little water drain test
@michaell16654 ай бұрын
I just saw how it shed water towards the end. I do believe that, for me, the safest kayaks that do not take inner hull water are those that have limited access to the insides. My Slayer Propel 13 hardly took a drop in massive waves and now I'm using the ATAK 120. I love that the only 2 hull access points on the ATAK 120 are secure 6" round hatches. Only a few drops later found inside the hull. Inside the hull storage, like the ATAK 140, and the Hobie PAs and Outback, are not worth the risk of taking water into the hull!

I think having multiple people on a boat like this will tend to bow or warp the deck slightly which will cause the water to pool up. A good design to drain the water using channels or some other way probably is needed here since I don't think there is a proper way to reduce the flex on an inflatable.

@@AliexFolgueira For this trip, maybe you feel you did't need scupper for safety, but pooled water is annoying, and if you are in a bigger sea you may think differently about the safety aspect

How did you like the seat? Was it bouncy? Would you rather have the aftermarket seat they offer?
@AliexFolgueira4 ай бұрын
the seat is comfy and you can have it super inflated or soft, the backrest works since it has two fiberglass bars, but I rather take the seat they had at Flywater in dispaly at Bixpy, the frame seat

How good is this at draining water once it’s on the deck?

Watch the end, if you have the boat well trim no water issues

I’m actually surprised that they didn’t put some kind of bailing drain in this like a lot of kayaks have.
@AliexFolgueira4 ай бұрын
No need, properly trimmed water gets out quick, also if we didn't hit waves head on like that it wouldn't be a problem

Just to assist in your future trips. You shouldn't fly the Dive flag unless you are stationary and currently have someone in the water. There are regulations set in place for how other boaters should react to a coming in the area.
