Good video so far but please be aware: 1. render cache can be faulty, especially when using plugins or copy and paste nodes/effects 2. optimized media does only speed up your rendering if you have a heavy compressed codec as source (like h.264/h.265). If you allready have prores/dnxhd as source you can skip this and will not benefit from transcoding

These videos help me out a lot. Hey Jaime, have you ever gone over Cache Clip file folders? I learned through trial-by-fire that they eat all your hard drive space. A cache clip file is created for every project, and even simple videos with just text animation and a lot of media pool clips can take a huge chunk out of your available hard drive space. I ate almost all of my 500GB SDD and I wasn't aware how to even find these files at first. It took troubleshooting with my computer guru to figure out what was taking all my disk space. The files have long names, no actual words. Just pathway code. After finishing a project it's best to delete these files. Just one file on mine was taking up 193 GB! Maybe you could make a video showing how to access these folders through the DaVinci program. I still can't figure that out. I access them through my computer folders instead. if you're not expecting these folders to be created it'll come as a big surprise when you can't figure out what is on your computer that's taking up all your memory. The files aren't the easiest to find. Sometimes they're hidden.
@JamieFenn4 жыл бұрын
You can always delete optimized media when you're done with your videos. Or delete the entire cache folder whenever you want.
@Spiikz4 жыл бұрын
How do u delete the entire cache folder, also if I already uploaded my video to youtube, can I delete the whole project and will it delete all those files for me?
4 жыл бұрын
@@Spiikz wherever your videos are saved, I'm guessing probably in a folder called "videos" there should be a subfolder that just says cache clips on it. Audio ones don't really take up anything you don't need to mess with those. Just put your cursor over the top of them and then it should show you the abbreviated properties of the folder and then you can check to see how many gigabytes it's taking up to see if it's even worth deleting. Or you can just right click and select "properties." But only do that if you're done with the video and you're happy with everything. Remember you can always use the newly rendered video and drop it back into DaVinci to add stuff. The only problem with that is you don't have separate audio tracks on the new video I don't think, so if you have music and narration/speaking and you want to edit out dialogue, the music might be choppy. So I'd make sure that prior to your first render you are a completely satisfied with dialogue and all other audio elements before deleting cache clips for that particular file. I think it deletes the cache if you delete the actual project from the project manager page, but don't quote me on that. I actually made a video on my channel addressing this.

Thanks a bunch for this video. This hasn't worked for me at all but still appreciate good content that helps a bunch of others (so thumbs up). With that said, "Generating Optimized Media" takes just as long as rendering that clip under Delivery without optimized media or proxy media, so it's almost useless to even bother generating optimized media. I followed your settings suggestions but my clips take hours to render and if I generate optimized media for those same clips, it takes just as long to generate that optimize media. I'm using a 2017 Macbook Pro with 16GB Ram and it's built-in Intel video card. I've also tried this on Linux with an M1200 Quadro and i7-7700HQ. Something in my clips must be off. I have minor effects, such as 1-2 seconds transmission on some and two call-outs. It's a 24min video. The clips with the call-outs seem take take hours and these are short 3 minute clips

HELP! Sort of... so I followed what you showed many moons ago, and I use a GoPro Hero 8 along with a Canon 5D4 and/or Sony RX100 IV for various stuff; but I notice there are always video noise (like the sides get kind of blurry for a few moments) here and there in the final video when viewing on KZbin. The noise usually happens in busy scenes or during a speed ramp and it seems to affect ONLY footage shot on that GoPro. I have an older PC and I only have DNxHR HQX or below codec to choose from @ 8 bit video bit depth and shot in 4K @ 30fps. I recently did an experiment, and I did not use optimized media to export and I set the quality to 30000, 40000 and 50000 respectively. Again, the video always looks good and clean on my computer, but the version on KZbin have that blurry noise again in places mentioned above. be careful with resolution your quality will be less if your optimized media is rendered lower than output resolution

Resolution of the codecs being lower than output resolution? I’m confused.
@clintcompose4 жыл бұрын
@@JamieFenn yeah you can change the optimized resolution to run better on slower laptops if its lower like lets say you optimized at 720 p. def dont export with optimized on if thats the case unless you want the lower quality.. didnt spell check if there is any typos im in a hurry

TheHitBrainiac if you are talking about the 1/2, 1/4, ... resolution optimizations, I don’t *think* that transfers to delivery. Good experiment to try though

I tell you i'm sick watching these davinci how to vids and getting differant info in each vid...Devinci for me has played up so much since i have tried alot of these settings....my advice unless you know exactly what your doing ignore all these videos cuz they will lead you astray and more than likely make davinci thow a fit...my rendering speed before mucking with settings was for 7 minute vid around the 15 minute mark now it takes up to an hour to render that same vid. Also currently trying to render a 49min vid and it will take 6 hours and i'm on my 3rd attempt at it. No errors just gets to 99% on first attempt 95% on 2nd and shuts down....My question is is there editing sofware out there as good as resolve and does not have the issues it has. ?
@JamieFenn3 жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound like you let your computer cache the project before you used these settings. Which is the whole point of this video.

@@JamieFenn Yes , Sorry for the above rant. I just got very frustrated with it. Still having issues with rendering speeds. Will sit down and re watch your video and others to double check all my settings plus try take time to learn what said settings are actually doing etc. Cheers

I love the idea of this process. But it takes my computer the same about of time to Generate optimized media as it does to just render it haha

I just let my project cache while I work and then when it comes time to render is fast af.
@eddiedepool7333 жыл бұрын
@@JamieFenn weird. Mine wouldn't do that. When I followed the steps in the video it had a window pop up that wanted to cache the entire thing before hand. But I did figure out that my Nvidia driver was older so that my issue was the GPU not using the CUDA core after discovering this video.

Hey Jamie, hoping you can help me on this one. I keep running into the same issue when renderin in Resolve. Many times, when I hit render, the render time just starts going up and up forever and I just have to force shut the program. I have tried everything. Different formats, optimized media... I even purchased the Studio version in hopes that GPU render would fix this, but the problem is still here. I have a powerful computer for the tasks I'm doing (sometimes it happens when exporting 4 second intros created with fusion and things like this) so I really don't know what to do. I have wacthed endless tutorials on optimizing resolve and nothing seems to works. My computer specs, in case they can be of any help: i5 9600k Nvidia RTX 2060 32gb RAM.

I must be doing something wrong, I followed all the steps in the video and rendering still took forever. I used a 3 minute sample HD video - 1920 x 1080 at 30fps 1080i...it took over 20 minutes to render and it took over 20 minutes optimize the video. I record and produce legal testimony video and clips can be as long as 2 hours at a time & maybe 8 hours of video total, there's no way I could ever spend that much render time on files...please help

Were you letting your video cache while you edit?
@anthonymicheletto25573 жыл бұрын
@@JamieFenn yes, but usually were not doing any actual editing on the clip, our main purpose is to take the raw footage and create mp4's...actual editing could take place down the road depending on if the case goes to trial...I guess my main question from this post is, I took a 3 minute sample clip and it took me over 40 minutes to have a final clip. Our basic output setting is to create a MP4, CBR @ 4mbps @ 30fps
