Awesome truck! One thing it's missing though is an "auto-recovery" feature - I don't mean recovering a vehicle by itself, but rather stowing all it's hydraulic parts automatically: Bring the crane to the rear center position, run the bed fully forward, retract the crane and lift and stow all the outriggers, all on the press of a button! A small modification the the stowage rings for the blue and white hooks to put those rings on small winches themselves - free-spool them, lock them onto the hooks, then hit the auto-recovery button and go about collecting your straps, chains, blocks, etc. while the truck sets itself up for travel! Granted there will be situations where it can't be used, but 90% of the time just hit the button and let it do it's thing!

Do you reorganize all your lifting gear, slings and blocking on scene or back at the shop? If at the shop is the time it takes figured into the tow?
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
On smaller jobs I will make certain everything is back in place before I leave the scene. On larger jobs, it can get a bit chaotic and will have to be done back at the shop. Even though most of my crew knows where to put everything back into its proper place, I still go back and check and sometimes have to rearrange things. I definitely do an inventory after the larger jobs. And, yes, on the larger jobs the rates reflect the time needed to put our equipment back into service. There are times when chains, straps, etc., have to be cleaned of mud, chemicals, or other substances and the cleaning time is calculated. Good question. Thanks for watching and God bless.

my volvo when i drove for swift had the loops stored bolted to the back wall under the bunk. almost got a second set if i didn't say anything to the shop. got new kingpins. they put the shops tow loops in for a set of jack stands in addition to the ones behind the front end rear spring hangers. when the trk was done they forgot to take thier loops so i told them out. fun getting clothing out of a trk with no front end.

I know that this an old video, but this is the first time i've seen it. That truck driver must've had a past working life in something that involved cribbing/rigging, as he seemed to know how to setup the timbers.That rotator is a very versatile truck.

Love the videos Ron! Thanks for your hard work in creating them. I have a couple of questions? If you're working off the back, like you did when you scooted the trailer over, and you need a few feet of reach, is there a preference to extend the boom, or roll the carriage back? Either way gives you reach but if it's only a few feet needed, I was just wondering if one way is better? Also, I notice you tend to immediately put equipment away, like chains, etc, when you take them off, rather than pile them up near the truck somewhere, in case they may be needed again. Is that intentional?
@RonPratt6 жыл бұрын
A lot of that decision depends upon how much weight I'm lifting, but generally I would prefer to roll the boom carriage rather than push out more stick. And, yes, putting away my chains and other equipment as soon as I'm finished with them is intentional. I do that so that I don't forget and leave something laying on the ground. Also, I don't have to go searching around, I know exactly where the equipment is, if I have put it away. As the old saying goes "a place for everything and everything in its place." Thanks for watching and God bless.

Brett Swampy how do u think we did jobs before rotators and integrated booms lol come on now. Don't get me wrong it's a great vid but rotators allow more crazier to get position but still gotta use common sense.. nice truck with all the toys btw
@RonPratt8 жыл бұрын
I started out, years ago, operating a Holmes 750, then added a Zacklift to it. After years of that we got a 16 ton hydraulic to work beside the Holmes. Moved up to 35 ton integrated and so on......so I do understand what we used to have to work with and you are correct.....it doesn't matter what kind of equipment you have, you still have to use your common sense or you can get someone hurt or killed.
@MrCrazyshark328 жыл бұрын
Ron Pratt I agree 100 percent with ya!! U know as well as I do common sense is almost taboo anymore lol
@RonPratt8 жыл бұрын
No kidding. I train all my guys with smaller trucks and try to teach them the essentials, the geometry, math, and physics. Leave the rotator out of the equation so they learn how to handle situations on their own. Out of, say, maybe every 10 that get trained, you might get one good operator. Sad to say, but it's true.
@MrCrazyshark328 жыл бұрын
Ron Pratt old saying goes if u can work the hell outta of a small truck then the rest is easy street ... the small trucks can do just as good providing u know ur limits and pull points ..... one thing I love about the heavy business it's always something new .... spent 17 yrs Otr and started heavy 2 years ago and love to really think about thing s that's the beauty is to think

Why all the lights? Nobody around...
@RonPratt7 жыл бұрын
In Missouri, towing and recovery vehicles are considered Emergency Vehicles and can run red/blue lights and sirens when requested to "EXPEDITE" by an authorized agency. Also, we aren't given the reason why we are requested to EXPEDITE. When we are requested to do so, we do so without question. The dispatching agencies have their reasoning. I know it is strange to a lot of people, but it is legal in Missouri. Anyone that is interested in the particulars of the Missouri law, I have a link to a video where I explain this in depth that you are welcome to view. Thanks and God bless. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2KTpJxoqduLZ5I
