Indeed a really good idea observation someplace in the middle of this story most of us may have an angle grinder it would be for most of us 4 to 4 1/2 inches and a hole saw can be an alternative to cuting thes out would be a thing you may want to mention asides from all that the idea is very kool indeed Sounds like it's a great way to save a few bucks Thank you for shareing

I hole saw would be great but it wouldn't last long cutting through the abrasive. I ended up with 2 of the same size though, so I may sacrifice my extra one to make a few disks.

A few years ago I bought a packet containing 10 diamond coated cutting discs and 2 arbors, so far a haven't been able to even wear 1 of them out, this including cutting and grinding tungsten carbide tool bits and they were $5 dollars for a pack. And yes they will cut an 8mm bolt like a hot knife through butter.

Hi, thanks for your comment! I bought some of those diamond discs ~10yrs ago, and they were crap. Maybe technology has improved meanwhile. I would like to try. Could you give a link to point me in the right direction? Is it this what you mean? www.ebay.de/itm/10X-60mm-Diamond-Cutting-Disc-Set-Drill-Bit-for-Rotary-Tool-Glass/302497609896

These are like the ones I bought, I bought 2 sets and still have all of them, they are really best for extremely hard material cutting like sharpening tungsten tool tips on saw blades etc. www.ebay.com.au/itm/10x-Mini-Diamond-Saw-Blade-Cutting-Disc-Wheel-Set-Rotary-Tool-2pcs-Mandrel/123404840295?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52946%26meid%3D3692b640183244fdb42b4e28eab2bfb7%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D232402603635%26itm%3D123404840295&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

You could use a diamond coated hole saw to make your disks with clean edges. The process would be quicker as well.

Yes a good idea for people who need new discs often, thanks. I only need about 2 pieces/year.
@aldoagnellini7568 жыл бұрын
nice tip! cutting discs for angle grinders are much stronger than the Dremel ones! you can also grind off the irregular points on the disc edge by using it against a stone for a couple of minutes

Many thanks Extremflug for this info. I end up using too many of those dremel /proxxon discs to cut metal shafts so this is a welcomed alternative

Dear All Why are dremel like rotary tools using cylindrical shafts for the cutting plate instead of square shafts that gives a firm grip? I like to know the rationale , thanks.

+Cosmo John Actually, there is "Dremel SpeedClic™", which allows for a more rapid change of tools. However, surprise, surprise, tools for this are more expensive. The round shape has the advantages of being cheap and easy to manufacture, and to fit for all kinds of discs. Torque-transfer is not really a problem as we usually work with high RPM and low torque.

Extremflug Thanks for enlightening. Cheers!

hi..this is a very practical solution. Just out of curiosity may i ask you will the "12500 rpm" max mentioned on the industrial blade suit the higher rpm of the dremmel??
@Extremflug8 жыл бұрын
+EMPEROR MOTOR INC. Well, as the disc is broken into pieces, we are operating out of spec anyways. But as smaller discs create less centrifugal force, we are good to go. Never had a disc go bad or spontaneously desintegrating. Wear safety goggles all the time though.

I do not understand why Dremel is unable/unwilling to make Sanders, cutters, etc that last longer than a match stick burns. Money is my guess. I have 7 nonfunctioning rechargeable, handpieces that no longer recharge. I am home crafter senior as the only user. Tool is treated well, it is just crappy & unreliable. Bought a couple generics for $10.00 from Big & Lots, WalMart that lasted longer & just as well as Dremel, used same attachments, too. Dremel should fix problems or drastically lower prices & make diy fixes quick, easy, & possible.

All the grinding and cutting takes its toll. Everyone wants a great handheld device that can do almost anything but it should cost nothing. There are better options. I prefer the IBS/E from proxxon...still dirt cheap but at least not that noisy and wobbly. Once in a while there is a foul one but just try a different one. If you want something better you can buy some from jewellers and dental labs...grab those 1500-3000$ and you got something that will last a long time. I buy the above mentioned with a longer warranty and if it breakes down I'll get a new one.
