The tragic death of 26-year-old Anna Sebastian, a chartered accountant, has sparked a debate about the toxic work culture in high-stress environments, particularly in corporate settings like EY. Her mother’s heartfelt letter highlights the severe pressures that contributed to Anna's untimely passing, prompting scrutiny of employee well-being in the workplace. The incident calls for urgent reforms to prioritize mental health and create supportive work environments.

Are you serious? Narayana Murthy talks about working 70 hours per week. Karnataka talks about 14 hours daily working hours. Either media is Hypocrite or Narayana Murthy and Karnataka Govt. Is Hypocrite.

A strict action should be taken on the leadership. Leadership should not only consider customers as partners but also the employees. HRs policies are only an escape route, HRs who are not properly trained or managers who are not properly trained on ethical values are responsible. Even the labour laws are too weak in India and come into action when these kind of situations arise.

Banks are no different. I once visited HDFC Mumbai office, because they were our clients. Saw employees clock in from 8am to 9pm, even 10 pm. It was relentless. This was back in 2015, and seeing all that along with anecdotal experiences of my own working in startups, realized I have to get out of India if I want to live.

The reason behind such toxicity is due to poor resource management. Big four auditing firms charge on hourly basis from their clients for deploying resources ranging from analyst to managers. However they deploy less number of resources for cost cutting which increases the stress.

I went through something similar a few months back, struggling to sleep for over 20 days due to work-related stress. It led to severe anxiety and awful acidity issues. Thankfully, my family was there for support, and I sought medical help. It made a big difference!

Anyone who raised concerns or registered complaints (including POSH) strangely disappear from the company within few months. It’s easy in corporate work places to remove people from the work force in the name of resource cuts. So these companies know how to shush the people who don’t align to their toxicity. Do what we want or leave is their motto.

This is because of the failure of India government see how the company are harrassing the employee, without thinking the government are forming labour law to work 12-14 hour work then in that case they will make us work 18-20 hour work till employee dies. Shame on government who knows to collect taxes but will never thinks of employees protection.😮

This is bound to happen when we have a huge population and barely any innovation in the country with the products and services that the world would want. The only option left is to work long hours compare to richer countries which normally has 40 hours work week with overtime pay if exceeds 40 hours in a week.

Very sad. The same work culture is existing in most/all of the Indian IT company. There is no standard work culture defined in IT industry which should be followed by all companies.. If we say, Indian IT industry has sub standard work culture/work-life balance, it would not be incorrect. The unprofessional management of EY must be forced to resign.

This is what when manuvaadis due to social capital sit at the top. Their forefathers never knew hard work, they only made the lower castes work for them. This is also the entitled mindset that made a IT Honcho said employees should work 70 hours a week. If only lower castes are given equal opportunity at the top, India would have been a developed country long back.

There is stress in every job,the night duty, continuous night duty, the girl was young ,young suffering, which may be silent and now a twist for compensation or complaint for attending more than eight hours. The Manrega workers in extreme heat they toil and sitting in Air conditioned still collapse. The thorough medical check up every month. Not attending the mourning shows that no one is attached and this made Anna's mother got hurt.

Accenture, tcs, capgemini, infosys ask their employees to work 12 hours with manipulation that it can be seen as 9.5 hrs. 1 hr break, 1 hr travel etc. Comment if there are other firms which we should know doing these ethical thefts in working hours.

Jitin Chawla : Not giving the right information across, he is not discussing using the ML to find out the Favorisom in the system. Caste discrimination is at its peaks in the private sector. There has to be a government audit for all private sectors operating in India. Employees should be allowed to raise court cases for wrong doing but main topics were not discussed.

HR should be for employees not for the organization. If HR ensures their employees are happy and enough motivated, the company will grow to 5 x. Right now company is growing by 3 x but on the cost of the health of their employees mainly the fresher, juniors. Leadership thinks that under their leadership/management it grew by 3 x. They don’t realize that if their employees were motivated, it would have grown by 5 x. If Anna was properly motivated, her state of mind would have on different level and probably she would be living. Someone has to take a very deep dive and investigate. Take individual interview of their employees, start from there….

Many MNCs that are in great competitive environment, have this toxic culture. Even many Indian companies have this. There are very few true Leaders in all companies. Most (95+%) are glorified Managers. When will Corporate employees ORGANIZE into Unions? That's the ONLY SOLUTION.

I think it's more about making a law and claus that are monitored by the government so that like a taxi union? So that the employees have rights, because if you are a number you will be replaced by a younger person , and they know you are disposable,...it is also governments rule to make sure they are protected and employed. I mean in a start up you get fired in 2 months if you just say I don't want to stay back after my working hours. Sales jobs omg it is a source of stress if you can't sell the company product, the company will put the entire blame on you and ask you to stay back if you are in a sales team...you can't just treat that employee like that, he/she is working to build your brand...the upper management can't forget that.
