I love this movie. The way it combines horror and beauty is unique. And Christiane is surely one of the loveliest characters in film.
@frenchieseverine45146 жыл бұрын
She is the purest lady in the film with Edna of course.The doctor's lady is the DEVIL with him too..Poor Christiane.She is disfigured so horribly and so sad even if we never see her face ,except a short second..It is better this way.She expresses so many feelings,despair, sadness and angerness with her eyes that seeing her face is unnecessary..The face of the doctor is more horrible in a way.He is a MURDERER.

This is not only a true MASTERPIECE but also the proof that cinema could be also art. This is one of my favorite horror movies along George Romero´s Dawn of the dead, the first two Aliens and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

This film is almost noir-like with its strong blacks and stark whites. Its a strange mix of Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera and a fairytale. Maurice Jarre's carnival-like music also plays an important part in contrasting with the horrific and poignant. I wish Georges Franju had made more films like this.
@slearwig9 жыл бұрын
+SamLloydPresents I think this is why modern horror is so off-the-track. The modern horrors have no contrast. They offer no hope. No option to the conflict. They prey solely on the audience's "expected dread" without intrinsic provision by the story.

This film is fantastic.I remember a few years ago that I hate to see these films because they were ¨weird¨. What a mistake! Now you see horror movies nowadays (and suspense in general) and are mostly a disaster! I'm from the old school, although i rescued films like The Babadook! There are many good ideas and always end up being the same ...

What's the difference between good horror and bad horror? IMHO it comes down to one word: style.
@terriblename40844 жыл бұрын
@@Blaqjaqshellaq ik I'm 11 months late to reply but I feel like I should point out that the difference isnt only limited to style (idk if you are talking about execution cause then you would be right but I'm still going to say what I want to say) it's about how well the plot is executed and its relationship with its horror aspect. A movie that is more plot based tends to do well but a lot of movies nowadays rely on cheap jumpscares and a shit ton of cgi (I'm looking at you "The prodegie"). The point is that movie back then had to deal with a limited buget and little to no CGI so they had to captivate thier audience with a great plot and great characters. While I do agree there are still movies like this today (like the absolute banger that is "us") they aren't as common as they use to be

Are we stuck w/ that music? It wrecks everything. Disrupts and disturbs any effort by the filmmaker to create true mood and atmosphere. Jarre obviously just didn't care and did it super-quick. It would take longer to play that crap than write it.
