repairing this valve was a great option in my opinion. the quality of parts used back when this truck was built was so much better than what is available today.

I miss the old air wipers, you could slam 'em over and get the ice off : )...little O ring is a far cry from buying a new valve....from back when things were made to be fixed. Good job.
@Ezrider3594 жыл бұрын
O ring was probably a few cents if that the new valve was almost 100 after shipping

Nice save! So glad to see that those are repairable when so many other things these days are just too darn disposable. It's also good to see basic repair skills used to good effect, as that sort of thing is a big part of what my career was all about (factory/machine/building maintenance). Thanks!
@garypatterson31234 жыл бұрын
Fixed both of mine today.. My truck did the same exact thing.. I didn’t notice the leak until after I stretched it.. Very weird! But anyway I was worried about tearing into that control valves until I saw how simple it was.. Thanks for the video! 👍

Lubricating grease is good and unfortunately often underestimated. Sometimes even the difference between success and failure. I had used a marking pen on the lid and bottom. But I am very impressed with your knowledge. A very nice and interesting channel. Many thanks.
@Ezrider3595 жыл бұрын
easier to cut/nick a o ring without lube.
@leestadnyk55735 жыл бұрын
Except grease and oil deteriorates reber products so your orings will fail because of it. If you want to lubricate for installation you should use something like dish washing detergent which does not affect rubber
@Ezrider3595 жыл бұрын
lee stadnyk that is only true with natural rubber o rings most o rings are nitrile, EPDM or Neoprene. grease will have no affect harmful effects on any of those materials.
@Ezrider3595 жыл бұрын
if you are using natural rubber o rings use a silicone based lubricant not dish soap.
@seriksson97214 жыл бұрын
@@Ezrider359 Very good idea. O-rings can last very long with proper lubrication. Another idea is to have as much lubricating grease as possible on bolts, and its threads. Preferably extra nuts over the threads for protection. There is hardly anything worse than rusty bolts.

Air wipers work well, but they're a pain in the butt. Always something leaking somewhere in the system. The nice thing is that was when everything was rebuildable and you didn't have to throw away anything. Old Red will be as good as it left the factory when you get done!
