That old 359 just gets better every time a new video pops up....makes me miss the '84 I drove years ago. As far as over-engineering the hitch goes....only thing I can think of to improve would be to reinforce the crossmember itself, but then again for what you're doing it simply isn't necessary. Keep up the good work....

Ezra, you need a drop hitch, maybe 8" or so, so the tow bar is level! With a ball hitch, at that angle, if you have to panic stop, all the stress is on the lock down lever, and it will fail! Ball hitches need to be as level as you can get them! Great job making the truck part! Or you could move the attach points on your PU up and out, so the tow bar is level, and it folds up more vertical!

Porter greetings! Well, it might be a Chinesium hitch and chain, but the chain does need to go! 😠 I always thought that it’s better to go above and beyond any weight rating you might expect…that way you’re not sorry later. I like an integrated hitch on any truck, especially a semi. Hey, you didn’t want any rusted bolts on that crossmember anyway…it may not give you good ground. Lol! The other good point is that the hitch isn’t hanging down and in your way. Did you have to replace any bulbs in your light bracket after you dropped it? Lol! I like those brackets and wish I could get a couple extras. Looking around. That might be a good thing to get at a junkyard or dealer. New ones are way costly! 😳 Good ideas and good work! Thanks! 🤩

Do you have a drop for you receiver hitch? I probably would try to find one to get the tow bar more flat so there’s no chance to get it into a bind going over tracks. What are your thoughts on welding the gussets solid versus having the inside corner open? I used to work for a big crane company and we built all kinds of equipment for jobs. A lot of their designs had inside corners not welded and back cut a bit. Also make sure you have the truck in neutral. One of the crane companies I worked for a guy towed a Ford Ranger with transmission in reverse. 😬🤣🤣 We ended up putting a new motor and transmission in the truck.

Great vid, I always was told that when towing a vehicle or trailer that the tow hitch and tow ball should be at a height that is parallel with the vehicle or trailers main frame / chassis? So I would in my view lower the tow ball between 2" - 6" to give more flexibility in the pivoting areas of the A frame tow hitch. Or make a Swan neck in the A frame. This is just my idea, not a "this is the right way" view.

@gullreefclub3 жыл бұрын
I pretty sure a Fabricoed up will hold up just fine even if it rather light duty. That said I do have some serious concerns about the tow vehicle because personally think it’s a bit low on horsepower to pull that Toyota pickup and definitely not sure the brake system of the intended tow vehicle is up,to the task. If it were me I would either have someone ride in the pickup truck to trail brake the truck so not to overheat the brakes on the tow vehicle. 🥸😁😎

Costs. If you're working on a construction site 50 miles from the house it's cost effective to drive the pickup home than driving the truck and trailer home every night and back to the job site the next morning. Just putting unnecessary miles, wear and tear on the money maker.
