On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

You should do the US vs Russia thing again but with the rule that you can't choose the same jet twice so it's more interesting. Do like 5 or 6 rounds so you can have different engagements. Also make it bandit unknown so you have to choose your jet carefully.

Hey Growly, I'd love to see an episode on defensive manouvers. How to recover from a losing position etc. Once someone is on your tail or gaining in a 2 circle etc...how to counter it and other strategies for regaining the initiative.

The question is, how do you even calculate that number? Is it just the flyaway cost? And flyaway cost at what point in the program's history? Or do you include all the maintenance and upgrades done to the aircraft up to that point in history? Or do you calculate the cost of replacing all the assets needed to regain the same amount of capability lost? And does that include pilot training cost, which can be as much as the plane?

I tend to think the maximum angle Cobra manoeuvre (like the Pugachev’s 110 degrees) is too extreme to be useful, but a 30-45 degree high alfa (like in Top Gun) could be balanced and useful enough for the pursuer to overshoot while you not to lose too much speed/energy.

Growling Sidewinder Pilot Experience and error play a big part in combat. You ever here about the A1 shooting down a MIG 17 in Vietnam. So on Jun 20 1965 a squad of A-1H's launched off the USS Midway on a ResCAP over North Vietnam to rescue a Thud driver. That ended in one MIG 17 kill. I would like to see a enactment of that if you somehow get bored.

It would seem that differential thrust would work best in aircraft that don’t have the engines so close together or near centerline. F-14 and Su-27 would seem to benefit the most.

I don't think so. A10 could get an AA missile kill. They're both armed with 30mm cannons and hellfires. But i think it's a lot closer than you'd think

Loved seeing a vertical fight. I use it a lot when flying the F-15… for some reason other players don’t do it a lot, so it’s a great way to get them slow. It’ll bite you in the ass if you aren’t careful though.

In my opinion differential thrust is a tool to use sparingly and can work against you as it makes you slow. After all, you don’t have 100% thrust. So when you are too fast or in a position that allows you to use differential thrust it is a good tool, otherwise it is a mistake. Especially when you fly too slow you will need that full thrust.

Isn't there a bit of a tricky compromise with using diff thrust at slow speeds? meaning by slightly rolling back one of the engines at these slow speeds when you are trying to keep your nose on and the plane from stalling, you temporarily loose some of that designed thrust to weight ratio thus increasing the risk of stalling and decreasing that nose pointing window? I guess the idea here is to create sort of vector thrust effect to a plane that doesn't have those capabilities?

I'd think differential thrust is most valuable at low airspeeds because it provides "oomph" to turn the airplane when the control surfaces have less authority.

@@danpatterson8009 This is the case. Slower speeds is where your control surfaces are less effective and also where the corrective forces of the vertical stabilizer are smaller. This means that differential thrust can have a sizable impact on the flight characteristics when employed properly and help make up for the lack of effect your control surfaces have. - source: me with a bachelors and masters in aerospace engineering

Have you ever heard of the Phantom backflip? Supposedly On May 23, 1972 by Lt. Com. Ronald "Mugs" MCKeown USN on a north Vietnamese Mig-15 to get it off his 6 for a missile shot. Mugs was reportedly in a left hand turn turn setting up a missile shot on one Mig-15 with a Mig-15 coming in for a gun shot, he apparently (at 1500 ft elevation) applied full left rudder and forward stick in the turn and immediately switched to full right rudder and full back on the stick resulting in the Phantom backflipping in the turn causing the mig to overshoot, allowing Mugs to get an AIM-9 off and disengage.

I do use the cobra switch but instead of the airshow maneuver I use it like you use differential thrust, just a little bit to get my nose pointing to my target. never go ham on it lol.

If I could. I would try a race in the F-4 phantom vs the f-104 (if thats correct). First one to blow up the ground target wins. A low to the ground high speed race to take an enemy building ,AA and or S.A.M. site.

He already used the A-10 to beat the Su-25 soundly, so differential thrust would make it more imbalanced. Maybe A-10 with differential thrust could defeat a harder opponent somehow. But it doesn’t have much thrust to weight advantage to spend on it, either.
