Dude. I totally agree. Peace of mind. I do my own fluid changes because I’ve been to a shop that F*** up my car before. -thanks for your video.. will do my f150 this weekend.

Good video. Thank you. Another reason I do the simple stuff myself is convenience the shop I use in 1-2 weeks out. Easier to just do it myself on my schedule.

I have watched a lot of fluid change videos and I have never seen the recommendation to change the fluid when it is warm. I was always taught to run the vehicle until the fluid was warmed up and then change it.
@kineticenergy10858 ай бұрын
I didn’t recommend either way. There’s no point in either way for a T-case, only a transmission when filling. T-case is just a sump with gears and holds about 3 quarts and all remains in that unit.

Great video. I'm not saying this applies to you specifically, but I find that people in general don't understand the importance of the first fluid change. I don't care if we're talking engine oil, transfer case, front/rear diff, transmission, whatever, that first change is the most critical IMHO, and it's fluids will be the dirtiest at any given mileage, with the most metal stuck to your magnetic plugs, or metal shavings in any given filter or screen. That's because everything was new, and when you've got a bunch of metal parts wearing into each other you're going to get small metal debri wearing off, and in your oil and fluid. Not speaking directly to oil changes, as most people understand the importance of changing your engine oil regularly, but IMO changing your transmission/differential/transfer case fluids, after the vehicles first 30-40K miles in a very good idea to help keep everything running smooth, quiet, and issue free. Also I like to drop the transmission pan for the first change instead of siphoning it so I can change the filter after the transmission's been broken-in good, as it's sure to have some trash and debri in it from the break-in. Adding a transmission pan with a drain at the same time is a good idea as it makes changing the fluid way easier, and helps motivate you to want to keep cycling fresh fluid in it about every 2-3 oil changes. That's how I do it. The transmission holds way more fluid in it that just the pan, but this just helps keep the fluid in it healthy as you're drain out a lot of old fluid, and adding a lot of fresh fluid. Same with the rear diff cover. Adding a cover with a drain makes a somewhat aggrovating job, an easy one, so then you're more likely to motivate yourself to keep fresh fluid in it.

I agree on every point you made, and boy do I ever wish this 10r80 transmission had a drain plug right at the bottom to service more easily and regularly. 👍🏽

@@kineticenergy1085 Yeah I understand. I'm trying to plan doing it in my trucks. My wife's truck is a 17 F150 Lariat 501A, 4x4, crewcab with the 3.5L 10R80, and the trans-cooler is mounted to the front of the truck instead of under the front of the pan. I don't expect this to be a very difficult change. My truck on the other hand is an 18 F150 XLT 302A, crewcab, FX4 with the 5L/10R80, so I have to get the trans-cooler out the way, and either drop the midpipe, or lift the rear of the transmission some. Everything I've seen says to unbolt the rear of the transmission from the mount that's bolted to the crossmember which has some hard to reach bolts, but IDK why it wouldn't be way easier or not possible to unbolt the transmission mount from the crossmember itself, or either unbolt the crossmember from the frame.?.? Those bolts seem easier to get to than unbolting the transmission from the mount itself, but admittedly I haven't crawled under there and over examined it either.

@@JROC734 from the videos I see, you disconnect the trans cooler and sway bar to drop the pan. “Flying wrenches” and “Fordtechmakuloco” made some vids on this process.
@@kineticenergy1085 Thanks! Yeah IDK why Ford doesn't add a drain plug, unless they want people to bring it in, and pay some dealership to change the fluid. My 03 Lightning didn't come with a drain plug, but the 4x4 pan from that era did have a drain plug. When I added my performance VB to my L, I put a 4x4 pan on it at the same time. It even holds an extra 1-2 quarts of fluid over the old 2WD pan.

@@keepitreal5148 my 2018 calls for ULV in the T-case, same as it’s 10r80 transmission. If you don’t have the 10r80 in the 2017 then I do believe the LV is called for both your 6 speed and Tcase

@@kineticenergy1085 from what i read in other places, everyone everywhere says it takes mercon LV not ULV. ULV is only for the transmission

@@Chris-bz9pg crap. Yes, right at 15:16 shows the bottle as Mercon LV, not ULV. ULV is for the trans, not the-case. Thanks for pointing that out. I typed this after the video and got the trans confused. This video, right at 15:16 shows LV, all.

No they don’t. They don’t “interpret” the constitution they make rulings based on the constitution. JFC, I’ve never gotten snippy with anyone on my channel but you are part of the problem with our criminal justice system. It’s all about what people think versus the actual written constitutional law.
