At 10:31 thats's always a fatal flaw, honing in, with tunnel vision, on the last location you saw the enemy go behind a mountain, coz it will almost never reappear on that same location. In fact, you can actually see the enemy reappearing on the right side of the screen.

I can answer this question, I had made several test on Rafale vs Chinese fighters like J20 J16 also US F35. The result came out Rafale didn’t perform well at all. These fighters are all mods, so I don’t know if it’s the problem with mods or it’s the problem with the actual jet

Awesome as always, thanks Cap and GR crew. Here's a suggestion and what I'd love to see in the near future if at all possible. It would sort of take one of your large PvP weekly events and change it into a large PvP "BVR/dogfight testing arena." If you don't have enough room on the weekly schedule or don't want to try this idea by eliminating another series, I suggest alternating between this series and the other series you simply don't want to retire. I don't know, I"m just typing what I would find very entertaining, and as always, just trying to help out. Summary of Where We Stand Right Now We see the US jets, from the F-15, F-16, and F-18 along with the F-22 and F-35, are extremely difficult to beat in one vs. one or two vs. two matchups using mixed pairs. Between the different characteristics of each US jet, they all have some strengths which they excel at amazingly well. It would be interesting to see how this scales as you add more pilots to each side. The current disconnect we're seeing within DCS and many GR videos are evident with the large wargame battles (and the carrier strike group battles) where it's typically a large number of AI jets. The AI code just isn't optimized for large cooperative engagements as the missiles tend to be fired in an extremely inefficient manner and the side that comes out on top is almost like flipping a coin based on how many missiles a few sacrificial airframes can absorb. The Future of this Series & Transition to a New Series If there's a way to get as many of your boys together as possible, perhaps a 90-minute weekly slot on the weekend, I think your overall content would best benefit from exploring numerous variations of large-scale PVP BVR engagements. It would perhaps start with an introductory "boot camp" that would be featured in the first video. This would establish a baseline of best practices/tactics used for general multi-plane BVR engagements, basic offense (ideal launch parameters, offensive crank, missile-specific ranges), basic defense (notching, diving to denser air, terrain masking), and perhaps what to expect during an ideal engagement, where your long-range BVR Fox-3 shooters would divide up the contacts on the radar as best as possible and stagger the ranges to fire at rather than everyone firing all at once from ~80 nm. This would also serve as a good reference to instruct your general viewing audience as to the strengths of each fighter and missile featured in the series (US/Russia/Chinese jets and their respective 2-3 missiles used). Any country that would be "potential" real-world adversaries would be best, with participating countries possessing three+ in-game jets to choose from ideally,, so obvious participants would be the US, Russia, and China. Engagements would start at long-distance BVR by default, with match-specific tactics adjusted based on which jets your guys can fly that night. For example, perhaps you had six guys with F-15s and two with F-16s for the US side; I don't think it would be a bad idea to simply use both jets according to their strengths. This could mean using the two F-16s in a pincer or perhaps sending them ahead of the F-15s fast and low as the F-15s gain altitude, as they serve as Fox-3 "BVR wild-weasels" using the terrain to draw in the enemy Fox-3s as your friendly Fox-3s fly over top. Example Schedule Week 1: Overview and best-practices tutorial for the series to both the pilots and the valued viewers. Quick overview of the primary countries, the jets used and their respective strengths, and the missiles being used (along with default loadout per model of jet). The first week could then feature two to three rounds based on the week one turnout. An example would be US vs. Russia, 8v8, BVR 150 mile total spread, optimized by default to BVR Fox-3 missile truck configuration. Week 2: New teams selected based on turnout/jets available for each player, this time perhaps the US vs. Russia and going for as many players as possible since there will be that week one overview/tutorial for everyone to view. Players from the US during week 1 can switch off to Russia for week 2 and vice-versa. Week 3: US vs. China, similar to week 2. Week 4: Perhaps the first three weeks could be generation four jets only, and week 4 introduces the stealth jets for all countries. The risk here is whether or not the various mods work at that moment in time and how many players are set up to use the mods. Week 5: Mix of NATO jets or EU jets vs. Russia or China (or Russia and China). Week 6: Team captain night, where you have each player list the jets they're able to fly regardless of country, assign two team captains, have two teams with no country/jet restrictions, and select players based on a draft (captains pick their pilot/jet combo from a list, alternating between teams 1 and team 2 captain selections). Round 2 of the night could be new captains, or a rematch using the same teams. Other Ideas for A Weekly Series The number of rounds and the number of videos you can produce from such a series would be quite a lot of content, and after solving initial difficulties to get everything organized, the follow-up videos of the series could be relatively straightforward and be some of the more unique DCS BVR "test" engagements available anywhere. It would be quite interesting to see the various airframes on both sides be used according to their strengths, with every missile fired and notch made determined by a dynamic player, all to give us the best sense of which nation and their respective jets are truly the best in DCS at the moment. This series could theoretically go on for quite a while only limited by your imagination. Other options to mix things up: special Fox-2 only week, special "over-water" battle without terrain masking, special "Thunderdome" night where it's guns only, a limited circumference for the "battle area" and then MANPADS sprinkled throughout the Thunderdome area along with different types of terrain to make it spicy. By that time, if people were having fun and attendance was at 6v6 to 12v12 each week, you'd have plenty of time to come up with new participant/view suggestions. The goal of the entire video series would be to come up with new and entertaining PVP-only dogfight nights, but with a special emphasis on BVR tactics in the beginning, as to give everyone a better idea of which country would really have an advantage during the wargame simulations due to being forced to use AI fighters due to the sheer scale of the war games. In fact, this suggestion goes to anyone who appreciates GR's content. This is Cap's livelihood and you have to respect the risk he took while providing his humanoid viewers with content. I think these AIM-120Ds may be overpowered or the PL-15s are underpowered. I know before, in past videos from weeks/months ago (the last time the AIM-120D was working as a mod-missile), it was extremely underpowered. If I had to guess, the PL-15 also needs a little boost simply given its larger physical size in the real world, unless Chinese rocket motors and fuel are known to be that much worse. Meanwhile, the AIM-120D appears to be hitting from extremely long ranges without lofting while still maintaining much higher speeds than AIM-120C quite a while after launch. Perhaps the best way to fine-tune these a bit would be two identical jets firing the AIM-120C and AIM-120D variants simultaneously straight ahead to compare the two, and then the same thing with the PL-12 and PL-15. If the newer variants are way worse or way better, then it's likely safe to say they should be tuned a bit closer to their direct descendent as both were evolutionary variant improvements.

​@@ClockworkAnomaly Yeah, I know their jet engines are still well-behind, where they were using Soviet/Russian procured models for a long time, reverse engineered those, and built up their own manufacturing to the point of just recently transitioning to their own modified designs based on Russian engines. On top of that, Russian engines to begin with are behind US engine performance in many characteristics. The rumored performance and tech on variable-cycle GE and Pratt engines for 6th-gen fighters is pretty insane and could be the factor that gives them the advantage for the next few decades. However, as you stated, jet engine designs are separate from rocket designs and China has a pretty solid space program if we want to take that and extrapolate. If I had to make a bet with hard cash money, I'd say Chinese rocket engines are very good, but perhaps 3-5% worse than US rocket motors. If we extrapolate that difference and combine it with the size/mass of the PL-15, then it probably still has more absolute range than the AIM-120D largely based on the additional fuel/mass. 😄

While this looked interesting academically, I'd like to see the boys fly WW2 craft, for example Fw 190/Bf 109 versus Spitfire/Mustang if you go European theater. (Or F6F Hellcat/F4U Corsair versus A6M5 model 52 Zero/N1K2 Shiden-Kai for Pacific.) Gunfights are just more fun and engaging. Or if really adventurous, DH.98 Mosquito versus P-38 Lightning.

Yeah well adding awacs makes this fight more boring. Having two stealth spotter jets makes for more of a cat and mouse game. Also the jets need to be careful they aren't merged with the stealth fighters. Although I think the j20 doesn't have a gun so it would need to be guns and close range weaponry only.

It's not possible, the AIM-120D is just a highly unrealistic mod. It uses the European Meteor as a base, but the Meteor is a far more capable missile than the AIM-120D is.

Getting a long range FOX 3 shot that low is highly unrealistic in my opinion. There's no way an AIM-120D would be able to fight through drag like that on the deck. On a side note, yall did great defending those incoming missiles.

You folks play arma 3? I know the flying isn’t real accurate, but it would be cool if you had OP4s play the enemy. That way it’s much more realistic in a sense for people playing on defense. I think it would make it much more fun. Other than that I’d like to see a escort for Airforce 1 encounter an attack, and how long until QRF with all available assets, are scrambled in air and readily mobilized to keep that plane protected. How many fighters will try to shoot a missile down or be clever with throwing off the enemy by getting into a formation to look like air force 1, and two remaining birds tuck in behind AF1. Or just a big bomber escort to drop a payload on forces on ground that are losing parts of the FOB, and air superiority hasn’t been established yet. Both sides are trying to control the skies, but due to the defensive positions located inside of the FOB, that’s being overwhelmed by ground forces by the opposing forces, as a last push to stop the Fobs air defense system that shoots down all air assets. Something like that would be cool. Seeing anyone flying a huge airbus with chaffs, flares, and doing map of the earth as evasive actions, lol.

This doesn’t really simulate missile trucks; if they fired on datalink the fighters could go cold after firing. With onboard radar they need to crank to support the missile until pitbull. Though true datalink would make for a really boring video, it would take forever

Similarly, other companies such as the Wuhan Hongxin Semiconductor Project (HSMC), once projected to unleash China's first seven-nanometer foundry, went bust last year. But you'll hardly see reports about the cost and consequences of such failures!
