2:24 The pilot seat position is the best I’ve seen on a fighter jet. I would define the pilot position as “intimate” with the jet, where the man become one thing with the machine. I’ve ride sport bikes for 10 years, the thing I quickly became addicted was the unique sensation to be “part” of the bike because of the rider position. Someone once said that flying a fighter jet is like riding a missile. I think never a metaphor was more appropriate and I bet that metaphor is more real then ever when flying the F16 Viper.

@401sttfw910 жыл бұрын
Flightx52 So I guess "Hey man" and "chill" is not not being an ass. I never said I was the king of aviation, but playing flight Sim games and piloting a single engine Cessna, or what ever it is you fly, does not make you king of aviation either. You have your pilots license, I have my A&P license.

Cockpit is actually more comfortable than it looks, because the seat is tilted back 30 degrees--Lazy Boy style! Serious question, might sound stupid: how do their knees not smack the control panel when ejecting using the ejection seat?
@Jay-zs6ox5 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong, but I think that ejecting initiates an entire sequence to get the pilot out of the jet. I think a mechanism pushes back the feet of the pilot so that nothing will get in the way when ejecting.

Are modern and updated fighter aircraft equipped with a helmet mounted sight and display system similar to the F-35’s helmet system that allows pilots to look at and lock onto targets without having to lineup their aircraft and target the enemy using their HUD? I would hope that with the technology available today that pilots no longer have to rely solely on their HUD for targeting and other systems like they have for decades.

@Blastman8888 the seat is tilted back at a 30 degree angle as Nathan G said. Your knees and legs have plenty of clearance during ejection. I don't know of any F-16 that automatically ejects the pilot, but I could be wrong. I had a friend that is over 6 ft in my sim and he still had plenty of clearance. The Aces II also has knee guards.

The F-16 (jet in the video) uses about $30,000 of fuel per hour
@Pilot5459 жыл бұрын
+Theresa St John +ComputersAndSoftware +JetMechMA Yes, that is way too high by about 3x. The actual per flight hour cost is about $12,000 (includes maintenance). If you want to just figure fuel costs, then just multiply however much Jet A is right now by approx. 2,000 gallons (for an air-ground configured jet...wing tanks).
@Pilot5459 жыл бұрын
+JetMechMA haha...that'd be AWESOME to eventually see a civilian F-16. I suspect, however, that the complexity of modern fighters would make it prohibitively expensive even for the wealthiest owner to operate, just like you stated. The parts would be extremely difficult to get, too, since the technology in them is still being used in other designs (US laws would prevent purchasing many parts).
