Well, we're spoiled, plain and simple. We come from the country that's produced some of the greatest looking fighter jets ever. Once you've seen the F-14 and the F-15 in action, and even the F-16 and the Raptor, everything else seems a little ugly. So yeah, it looks like a blow fish, but like you pointed out, when it comes to cutting edge air combat technology, looks don't mean too much.

The F-15x was created as a missle truck for the f-35. That is it's new role. The very fact they are making it shows there is a new top gun and that is the f-35. The f-35 has greater ability then all others in the world including the f-22.
