Yes, it’s been brought up to the standard of other new modules, but it’s fairly insulting to charge people who’ve spent hundreds of dollars on modules for a basic art upgrade, which in most other games, would be free.

People very reasonable have asked for Mavericks (would be As and Bs, AFAIK), Sidewinders on the wing pylons and a removable AAR probe for a long time. Some of those were fielded to the F-5E-3 after it not having those out of the box and AFAIK in case of the additional 'winders it only happened within a few "foreign" air forces (that are not US). The announcement of this very upgrade / remaster gave many people hope that at least some of those additions could actually make it into the sim. I just hope that ED are still open to that. I for one will get the upgrade anyway though, but also hoping that we might get future work on it still.

I purchased the upgrade, but I do hope you consider what the community is requesting and add the refuel probe as an option as well as the extra missile racks. The A-10CII upgrade was also $10 for previous owners and it came with a boatload of extra capability.

I gotta say that this was a disappointment. I read what the update entailed, and so I knew what I was getting, but even then, the cockpit textures were absolutely not worth it at all. This "enchancement" update was not nearly on par with the A-10CII or the Black Shark 3 updates though the pricing was comparable. It's actually insulting that ED is charging us for this. And the icing on the cake? The old liveries dont work! You now only have a fraction of the ones you used to have. I feel like I've paid more to get less. Insanity! Get it together, ED.

They said they wouldn’t add an aerial refuelling probe because it required avionics changes. That’s not true, it was a standard export option and required one switch. They then said they wouldn’t add the probe because they haven’t modelled an export jet. That’s not true. They have clearly modelled an F-5E with a dorsal antenna, which was only available on export F-5E’s. So this is now an export F-5E. They said that they put 7000 hours into a remodelled 3D model. That’s not true. They only remodelled the exterior. The interior is the same. They then said that the cockpit is a new cockpit, built from the ground up referencing the old one. That’s not true. As others have mentioned, the vertices are in the exact same place in 3D space. That means they just edited the old cockpit slightly. Not 7000 hours worth of edits. So all we got from this update is the pilot and an external model, which I cannot believe they are trying to get people to pay for. This should be a free update. You should only have to pay for this if they add new capability like they did to the A-10C II with JHMCS and APKWS, and the BS3 with the extra launchers. They should have added the aerial refuelling probe at least. It’s detachable and it could have worked like the JF-17 module where you can detach it. Huge missed opportunity. They didn’t even re-model the cockpit, they could have easily made the change.

An updated F5 is absolutely what DCS needs. It's one of the most popular planes in the entire game, given it's prevalence in all the Cold War severs, and it's one of the best ways for new players to get into the game too. The old F5 was horrible dated compared to all the other aircraft.

Quite disappointed that almost the whole video features the swiss version of the tiger but the upgrade does not change the radio to the swiss digital radio set. I know these upgrades take time and money and I am prepared to pay for brining old modules up to the new standards but only if it includes these kinds of quality of life improvements, the same as the black shark and the a-10 upgrade brought and this update apparently does not. I am a big fan of the tiger but still undecided if I'll even get the upgrade. A big issue for me is also that probably all the old swiss skins I have won't be ported over as the person creating them back then is not arround anymore.

Technically the variant modeled is the F-5E of Switzerland, as many others have been saying. It already has the RWR and antennae on the nose that EARLY USAF 5Es did not have, but rather Swiss 5Es did. It also has the Chaff/Flare dispenser option. It should also, in reality; have the APG-69 radar from the F-20 Program, as well as the VHF *and* UHF radios from the Have Quick program (since 2000). I'm currently combing through publications of F-5(E) manuals and magazines, and found one image of a USAF F-5E in testing carrying one AGM-65 under the left wing outer station.

Happy with the new model for one of my most flown planes, a little disappointed with any lack of new features. An extra rack for missiles and a refueling probe would've been great. I was so excited to hear that the F-5 was going to get a re-release, and thought this would be like the A-10 and Ka-52. Instead, this is really disappointing and while I am not expecting updates for the F-5 forever, for free, this re-release could have and should have been so much more. I would have been happy to pay another $20 for a significant overhaul + actual new features or weapon systems integration, but this just feels like a forced upgrade with the bare minimum of bug fixes and a cosmetic facelift. I want to be happy about this, but it just can't and it feels like this was poorly thought out and isn't a good value for me as a customer, or for ED for the resources that they expended (7000 hours?) ED please re-think what you want this package to be and please recognize the "this specific S/N or version" is a rapidly eroding hill to die on when so many other of your modules are moving to multiple variants, or the more capable versions but letting the mission maker decide instead.

Nice job, gentleman. Now, for the next F-5 installment, could we get a modern upgrade of its weapons and avionics please. As real Air Forces upgrade their airframes before buying total of new ones I think many of us in DCS would definitely like to have upgraded modules instead of buying whole new ones and then having to learn the Steep learning curve all over again. This would have been a great update for the folks that paid the full price to get the Full Fidelity version considering It's only been a year since I bought it, I love the update in graphics but not the trend of charging extra for folks that already bought it. I hope this trend does not happen to other aircrafts. I think the best way to keep selling older modules is to update them show players you will continue to support them and new players will buy them and older players will love them even more. I love DCS but if I have to speak up. I don't want to have to pay for updates on modules I have paid full price for.

If you already own the previous module you can upgrade it for $10 otherwise it takes the place of the previous version. Can’t really lose if you like the jet i happily paid $10 bucks for the upgrade.

interesting, first I looked in the DCS shop, f5 remastered was 49.99$, now that the original module disappeared from steam, the DCS remastered version costs 59.99$, only a few hours later (incidentely took a snip because I thought about buying the f5 and didnt know about the update shennanigans until I visited the shop). Played with the idea to buy the steam version and upgrade it for 10 bucks, but now I am good. No, thanks. And thank you guys in the comment sections for pointing out the flaws of the module upgrade👍 Love the DCS Community👏🤝

I was very happy with the update and have already purchased it, but I really wanted a digital radio and the aerial refueling probe to be added in the future as an option in the editor or on the radio to be activated according to the pilot's taste.

So... Newcomer to the F5 = $60 US Loyal ED customer has the F5 for years = $60 US + $10 US Upgrade 🤔 Yet another brilliant alienating decision by the ED administration. Well just buy the old one you say? Get it on super discount and then pay for the upgrade? Well you can't. It's been removed for this purpose. I truly hope this isn't a harbinger of future ED strategy to "revive" old IP by deprecating it and making an upgrade fee. For perspective, the A10 and KA50 both had upgrade deals that fundamentally changed the aircraft and were comparable in price. Now for this you can't buy the old one and people who have owned the aircraft for years now waiting for bug fixes to come on something they already spent money on - well they can spend 10 bucks more than a new customer to have those bugs fixed and the textures upgraded? Do better.

eh? if you've had the F-5E for years, you spent $60 (or less if you sensibly waited for a sale) and you have the module. you still have the module. you have the functional updates to the module. you're not losing anything if new customers get the remastered textures and mesh by default

Texture looks great. 10.00 towards an AAR feature would have been nice because learning to AAR with this easy to fly model is more appealing than the AAR task of the F-14 or F-16 for example. Looks great, I will support but AAR,INS, or Missile racks are valid points.
