F01 N57D30 / N57 Engine Sound , Engine Noise ( strange noise in my ears).

F01 N57D30 - New Injectors - 500km after water pump change.
BMW 730D N57D30 245hp engine F01 with 320.000km on it. New Injectors, New chains , new crankshaft pulley, new water pump ,new EGR , newexhaust manifold with new gaskets, (tested with EGR removed also), Intake manifold changed, fuel pressure sensors changed, rail changed with rail pressure regulator ,oil changed 5000km ago with filters (oil changed regularly every 9000km) . I hear a slight "tapping" ... "tuk tuk tuk / tap tap tap " :) noise when holding the revs and seems to get louder under load. Maybe I am crazy but I hear something out of "round".
Might be normal sound of this engine just a bit more loud than others I have heard.
EDIT 1 June 2023 : Since the video was taken the sound did not change much, it is still there, car drives daily but I noticed it more pronounced with AC or maybe is only my imagination ? :)

For the love of god i have been hunting the source of this noise for a year now. Have a 330d 245hp, changed crank pulley, main and big end bearings all chains, wallnut blasted intake ports, new egr, new flywheel and clutch, new engine mounts, new gaskets throughout the whole engine (except the exhaust manifold). But been looking at other videos on youtube and it seems like most of them have the same sound... dunno if it was there when i got the car. It seems to be more pronounced when engine is hot, alltho its somewhat random somedays it seems good, somedays it seems like you described...that something isnt round for a lack of better description

Well, sound is still there on mine and car still drives daily. Since then changed exhaust manifold, DPF, intake manifold, all sensors on fuel line and other bits and nuts... What i noticed it is that the noise is more pronounced when the engine hot as you say and if i have my AC on ... so I could presume the AC compressor being the culprit maybe or maybe the alternator ... this 2 things I did not changed and not planing to change until something says BOOM :)

@@GigiBeleaDK i work at a main bmw dealer here in our country, so my boss kinda made a goodwill action happen for my car for a new egr and intake manifold. Will see if it makes a diference when the parts get here

@@timiracko6317 Changed EGR also and Intake 2 times.... no change. Thinking AC compressor or Alternator or servo pump ... did not try to run it without accessories. Please don't start me again 🤣🤣

I have a 2011 F07 535d GT 140k. It has developed a tapping noise from the engine bay. You can hear it on a cold start. At idle no sound, when you rev it the sound is like tap tap tap. When the engine has warmed up it isn't as noticeable. Any idea what it is? Some have said it's the hydraulic lifters, some say it's the turbo. But I have not seen any loss in power. Thanks.

This could well be a tappet or maybe chain or maybe an Injector (they are more noisy at cold startups) ? Impossible to tell just by description.

I have exactly the same sound on a bmw x5 f15 N57, the sound is louder when the engine is warm. Did you find what the problem would be? I received several opinions from mechanics, some say it's the torque converter, others say it's the crankshaft pulley, and some think it's the normal sound of the engine. What do you think is the reason?

Torque converter changed, crankshaft pulley changed. Sound remains the same since I posted the video.

Bearings never replaced on mine as there was no need. Engine still running fine since 2 years ago :)

O singura chestie ma deranjeaza , in 1-2 cand o fortez , aud pina pe la 2500 de ture un fel de bataie , tapping noise..ca si cand bate un tachet sau galeria de evacuare crapata... pare sa fie din avans sau din injector sau pompa. Auzi ceva ciudat la acceleratie puternica in 1-3 la turatii joase sub 3000rpm ? Adica plecat de pe loc cu pedala la fund pina intr-a 3-a ?

My engine also Knock ticks Strangely!! My friend has exactly same car 550d hos engine only has the Trrrrrrrrr sound mine has an extra tak tak tak tak tak tak , since i owned it i bought it with 150tkm now has 270 Fuck knows why it doing!!! It has new rod bearing, new Piston rings, Water Pump, oil pump, chain , etc etc

What i know is normal n57 you only hear TRRRRRRRR i cant describe better but thats what it sounds like and no tak tak tak tak , my friend has 550d same year almost identical mileage And i started mine then listened then turned off then he started his and Listened we both said mine compared to his sounds like something is wrong !! His car is quiet Only has Trrrr sound I don’t know mechanics said Every engine even same engines sound different thats bullshit

Since I changed the EXHAUST manifold the sound it is more quiet , reduced by let's say 50% ? Screws on the exhaust manifold were not spent enough , gasket was cracked and with the time I guess the manifold was bent out of shape. "New" manifold and gaskets reduced the sound and I started to learn that is sounds like that :( Drives me crazy but won't do anything anymore. Only thing I observed both with OLD and also with the brand New injectors is that injection quantity on piston to is always +0.8 / +1.2 or around here which makes me believe an exhaust valve is not closing perfect and pressure escapes there

@@bmwsincekid Yes, I agree with the engine sound, but if you made 120.000km with that sound , that means is not that serious problem..as I said , might be a valve that does not close perfect and pressure escapes as the "clack" sound it goes with engine RPM up and down but it's not quite on every piston stroke.... To check manifold you don't have to take engine out. I will upload a video with the procedure , simple but takes some time.

Still working on the issue ... found 1 broken exhaust manifold gasket and replaced all of them, the sound is still the same , maybe a bit more diminished but still there. Exhaust manifold might be deformed so going to change that next together with new seals again... will see.

Va salut domnule Gigi, am si eu un F01 730D cu 302.000km si in ultimul timp am impresia ca se aude ciudat si nu sunt sigur daca sunetul este din interiorul sau exteriorul motorului. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp_Ok2uZjZdkqc0 - Am impresia ca este un sunet "tuk tuk tuk" si parca vine din partea din fata stanga. In momentul filmarii uleiul era undeva la 50 de grade, deci nu era tocmai cald motorul inca. Sunetul parea sa se auda mai tare la cold start. Tin sa mentionez ca distributia este schimbata recent, pompa de ulei, bujiile, fulia vibrochen si o rola intinzatoare si ca pompa servo incepe sa caraie ocazional, dar nu cred ca de la ea ar fi sunetul. Poate ma puteti ajuta cu o parere, Va multumesc si sarbatori fericite!

@@andriizimich EGR , new. Tried with and without it. Exhaust manifold ... changed + gaskets changed 2 times. Only thing left is the turbo tbh , but does not sound like turbo. SOMETIMES when I push hard from stand still I hear a metallic rattle noise or knock ... hard to describe..it is not crankshaft noise , something different. We will live and see when it says BOOM or drive forever :)

@@GigiBeleaDK Still the same in my case, sound is very similar. I notice this bumbum sound from 1200 rpm when driving, sounds like helicopter. Very interesting, no that sound without exhaust, as i remember Tomorrow guys will check the compression in each cylinder, the problem still remains, also it feels like a slight vibration and the same rpm inside the car

@@andriizimich Don't think compression is the problem. I also changed my exhaust manifold 2 times and gaskets also. DPF is new. When you say no noise without exhaust , you removed from manifold or after DPF ? ... thinking if you removed manifold and sounds ok , then the problem could be manifold itself or turbo ...
