A few NASCAR and F1 rule differences; 1) The cars. Although they look differently, the car chassis and body styles are identical. The basic differences between the cars are the engines, transmissions, shocks, brakes, and vendor identifying stickers from the three manufactures. 2. All cars can go around 75 miles, slightly over 100 kilometers, on one tank of gas. The size of the gas tanks is specified by NASCAR. So with 400 to 600 mile races, they refuel many times. 3. For almost every race, they run on the same tires. Only on road courses can they also run on rain tires. On ovals, they stop racing when it’s raining. It usually takes 2 hours to dry the track to allow racing during daylight, 3 hours at night. If it rains hard enough, they will stop racing on road courses as well. If lightning is nearby, they will also ask the fans to take shelter under the grandstands. 4. They race on all types of tracks, 1/2 mile to over 2 1/2 miles, ovals, quad ovals, triovals, and road courses. Payments surfaces mostly being asphalt, some concrete, and usually just one with dirt. 5. There are racing teams just like in F1, but the teams can have up to 4 cars. There can be up to 40 cars entered into each race. Around 35 cars have certificates that guarantee race entry, which means around 5 cars lacking certificates must qualify faster than others to race. The teams can buy and sell certificates between themselves. 6. On short tracks, less than a mile, they use large brakes. On super speedway tracks they use small brakes. The setup, brakes, shocks, springs, track bar adjustments, tire pressure, wheel toe, etc determines which cars can be faster than others at each racetrack. Drivers skill at driving and giving feedback to the drivers crew chief also affects speed. 7. The oover the wall pit crew is one gas man, one jack man, and two tire men. On a few occasions NASCAR may allow an additional over the wall pit crew to attend to the driver, handing in water on a very hot day. 8. On three high bank super speedway tracks with over 30 degrees of banking, NASCAR requires using restrictor plates that reduces air flow to the engine and reduces maximum speeds. In the 80’s, these cars without restrictor plates were qualifying over 220 mph, today they qualify around 180 mph. On these tracks they rarely use their brakes, just lifting off the accelerator pedal slows the car. For most of the race,they do not have to steer the car around the curves, the banking does that. With these high speeds, there is a drafting shadow behind the cars. The car behind can save gas by lifting off the pedal and not loose ground to the car in front. Cars racing side by side create a larger shadow. Cars racing side by side can takes wind off another’s car rear spoiler, removing downforce and slowing the other car some. Cars bumper to bumper go faster than cars with gaps between them. That’s why on these tracks you might even see cars pair up and the back car is pushing the front car. Cars paired up can go faster than cars not paired up. 9. There are few track limits. All white lines on the track can be crossed at anytime, only the double yellow lines can not be crossed to make a pass of another car. You can cross a double yellow line otherwise. 10. At the end of races, NASCAR prefers to see a green flag racing. If a yellow flag drops on the last lap, they will finish the race. If a yellow drops before the last lap, NASCAR will extend the race with a green, white, checker, extending the racing another two hopefully green flag laps. Feel free to ask more questions.

The term "slingshot" you wondered about is when one car uses the draft to pass, or slingshot, the other car. The second car in line is in a resistance free pocket because the lead car is breaking through the air, which allows the 2nd car to pass by basically creating a parachute of air behind the lead car when it pulls out to pass.
@John_Conner222
@John_Conner222 5 ай бұрын
Slingshot: Using another cars slipstream to give yourself extra momentum to pass the car ahead of you. The cars have aerodynamics that help hold the car down to the track just like in formula 1. However when you get behind another car the air slips over the second car and creates a sort of vacuum pocket. You can use that momentum to help push the car in front of you faster than they could normally go so you will see teams bunched up like this and then wait for the opportune moment to move out of the air draft and sling shot past. You keep a good chunk of your momentum before the air resistance kicks in and slows you back down to the speed of the other cars. Combined with bumping each other around it makes for some pretty intense racing.

Auto racing in Europe evolved from rally style racing over public roads, whereas here in the US, our racing scene developed at county fairgrounds where there were dirt ovals meant for horse racing. Usually 1 mile in length or shorter. That's why we have so much oval racing here. You can still find many of these dirt tracks still in operation, my local track has hosted racing for over 100 years.

One thing to keep in mind is on super speed ways the cars are so close and the air is moving around the cars aggressively. So drivers will try to move though the traffic without issue but it’s a gamble. If an accident happens it’s just that an accident not on purpose. Another thing to keep in mind is even though there hasn’t been any deaths in NASCAR since Dale Sr. Drivers do get injured all the time, so all crashes are a concern until the driver walks away. Great video!!!

key point, after a wreck it is a rule to pull down your window net to tell the caution crew you're safe (and exit the car fast). If this is not done, that is how you can tell the wreck was bad and the driver is shaken up.

Tire and fuel strategy also come into play here. Road courses usually have 2 or 3 pit stops, ovals 4 to 6. Usually one stop can be chosen for a short fill on fuel to save a few seconds. If tires are wearing well on an oval, they may change only the right side tires which can cut the pit time by half. Usually though, there's a wreck and full-course caution (what you call a safety car period) and everybody pits at once, which puts a premium on having a fast pit crew because passes on pit lane count. NASCAR pit crews put 6 people over the wall, use standard mechanics' floor jacks to raise one side of the car at a time for tire changes and refuel from handheld urns which hold 10 gallons (38 liters) each, using two for a full fueling. They just recently switched from five standard lug nuts to a single large nut on the hub.

Yes NASCAR does have road course races but most of the tracks are oval. If you truly like this kind of racing then I suggest you pick a driver to pull for sooner rather than later. Having a driver you like and want to win just makes it much more exciting (and also devastating if they wreck or have a bad race) You can even pick a driver based on your F1 favorite driver. The same manufacturer/team, such as Penske has cars in both F1 and NASCAR. Or you can go with a more popular driver such as Chase Elliot who has been voted NASCARS most popular driver several years in a row now. But once you pick a driver you like, you will find that you WANT to know how they did and watch at least some of the race. There are sometimes in car cameras from driver on KZbin as well.

In NASCAR, anything CAN happen at any time. Often times not much is happening, but anything could happen at any time, throughout the entire race. And the races are 3 hours long. F1 is a sprint, NASCAR is a marathon. There are 3 manufacturers in NASCAR. Ford (Mustang Dark Horse), Chevy (ZL-1 Camaro), and Toyota (2024 TRD Camry). You are allowed to run someone into the wall, and you're allowed to bump into each other. As long as you're not intentionally wrecking the guy, it's fine. The cars are durable enough to take some serious punishment and keep going. That said, you may tick the other guy off. He's going to remember what you did. And he's not going to hesitate to do the exact same thing to you. (If you want to learn more about NASCAR, there are a few great youtubers. S1apSh0es has a few videos that serve as a great into to the sport.)

Actually it's similar in NASCAR in that it can take 50-60 or more laps to pass someone, sometimes you only get that one time to pass... It's all in the timing and what kinda "grunt" your car has under it and if it has that much more power than the drivers around you or not. Tires, Engine ware, Transmission ware, how good the information you are getting of those around you from your spotter up top of the stands, how good you communicate to your team, how good your pit stops are... think everything that's going on in F1, but with bigger, heaver cars built now to be as safe as we know how. All together in one or two packs and trying to outdo each other. The cars are so similar underneath at times it takes driver skills and accident avoidance skills at the highest level to get anywhere near the front... and a bit of luck on your side... if you believe in such things. They can beat and bang because of aero sometimes, but almost never because of intent... though there have been cases over the years... So have fun and we will do our best to help you understand along the way :). By the way, the reason you saw so much flipping in the last one was because, before the last several years... they hadn't yet figured out that when the car gets air under it, it gets lift due to pressure differences from top to bottom. They figured out a way to have flaps auto-open in the event that the aerodynamic pressure on top of the flap is less than under it and thus keeping the car on the ground... now yes they did keep flipping at first, but much less... and they figured out more about that. We also have the HANS device around the driver's head and neck that attaches to the helmet to help keep their spine/neck from whipping around in a wreck. That was put in place after Dale Earnhardt Sr. died in a wreck where that could have saved him... And Dale Earnhardt Sr. was racing his son on that day... uh, you might want to watch the documentary on that when you feel up to it... it's a sad one for us, but one we remember somewhat ... "fondly" in that because of the loss of NASCAR's biggest legend of a driver to this, all drivers are far safer now than they were before. Also you should see the wreck of "The King" Richard Petty and the documentary that talks about it, because of it they have netting in the windows now to keep that from happening. Warning that wreck in particular is graphic to say the least, so viewer discretion advised.

Oval track racing is the dominant form of motorsports in the US and Canada, with 700 to 800 dirt and paved ovals operating in both countries. Besides NASCAR, there is IndyCar (open-wheel cars similar to F1) that races on the large superspeedways (1 mile or more in length). There are also a variety of race cars (late model stock cars, modifieds, sprint cars, midgets) that race primarily on dirt ovals. My family raced at local dirt ovals from 1950 to the 1980's.

NASCAR started with guys who ran "moonshine" (illegal homemade liquor) bragging their car was faster than the other guy. They made their cars faster, with better suspension, and more agile than any police car that might chase them and seize their cargo. They would meet up on dirt oval tracks in the remote countryside and the winner would get a prize and bragging rights, and sometimes some free moonshine. They were motivated to modify their cars to not only beat the police cars but each other.

NASCAR is a unique thing, coming from someone who watches all kinds of motorsport. I think for instance like most sports car racing is the same feel (and often drivers/teams) regardless of series. F1 is F1. Etc. But NASCAR is like this weird mix of motorsport and WWE wrestling or NFL or something. It's distinctly American. I can't say I really love it, and there's a lot that I don't care for when it comes to the culture around it. But the history of stock cars is interesting in the United States especially the south. It reflects the evolution of those regions of the U.S. I think, the good, the bad, and the ugly. At the very least I respect the skill of it. It's not just "turning left" that's for sure.

Around 5:30, the car with the missing hood you pointed out. Not so much now because they have a limited amount of time to fix cars of they're out, but back in the day it was common and even expected that if the car was in ANY way fixable and able to be sent back out running competitive speeds, you did it. In NASCAR, EVERYONE gets points instead of just the top 10 like in F1, so the difference between finishing say 30th and 35th could impact your position in the standings, where in F1 there's really no difference between running 11th and 20th. So you'd see teams spend even hundreds of laps fixing the car to get it back out just to see if they run JUST enough laps to pass other cars who dropped out, whether from wrecks or part failure. You'd often see cars with no hood, or bent fenders, just riding around at minimum speed trying to make enough laps to gain just a few points. These days, it's far less common as NASCAR decided it was a safety issue and makes you get the car driveable within a 5-10 minute clock.

Sling shot... that would be either like Kyle was doing there, when you pass everyone at a higher speed due to... various reasons, or when you get boosted by someone and take off even more so... though someone else probably can explain that one better than I.

You should check out the Garage 56 entry in the experimental class at LeMans. The used a next gen NASCAR with a handful of changes to work at the race and actually did really well. They used a NASCAR style rear spoiler instead of a huge wing. Admittedly, they blew a transmission that would normally disqualify the car, but it was allowed to continue being that it was in the experimental class and not considered an actual competitor. The race officials wanted to have flaggers at the corners to let other cars know about the “rolling roadblock” ahead, but the car was so fast it was overtaking cars that nobody expected it to. Really worth checking out for the sake of comparison. They even competed in the pit stop competition for the sake of demonstration. People outside the US think NASCAR is boring because they “only turn left”, but when you really dig in it’s absolutely brutal with packs of cars traveling over 170 mph (273 kph) just inches from each other and jockeying for position over the course of a few hundred miles. The Driver61 KZbin channel has a great video on it that really covers the subject well, but there is a sponsor advertisement in the middle. FYI

There were some questions you asked that I believe haven't been answered You asked if the drivers have to give up their position if they pass like in F1. No, if a driver in NASCAR advances a position, they can keep it and hold it for as long as possible. That's why, as you worded it, anything can change in an instant and that it keeps you on the edge of your seat How much damage can a car take being against the wall? Well, it depends. If you get slammed head on against the wall (as well as depending on your speed) car is anywhere between majorly damaged to just destroyed. But, side swiping the wall won't normally break the car, but will do some damage to the right wheels. If you want to see a legendary moment where a driver rode the wall to gain positions, look up Ross Chastain's "Hail Melon" move at Martinsville 2022. And, I highly suggest you react to it if you ever do another NASCAR react video.

Nascar also uses spotters. Which help let the driver know a wide variety of details. One of the F1 teams attempted to use this but they didn’t use trained ones. Those drivers are very trusting of those guys.

The best way to describe it is F1, you’re watching race cars, the finest around. In nascar, you’re watching cars race. theres a difference; while nascar doesnt try to be on the bleeding edge of tech, the races are often more exciting than f1, where you generally know who will win midway through the season

The sponsors and livery changes almost every race. It is the number and the driver you mostly remember. NASCAR also has strategy when it comes down to Filipe and tiers. If you are on fresher tiers then the person ahead of you. You can be aggressive and attack. If you are low on fuel you can’t push the car all that hard or you won’t make it to the line. Highly recommended watching a full race sometime.

Well, with fire you never know. Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a bad encounter with fire, and so have others. Look up NASCAR's worst fires. That would make a great reaction video. The "worst" one I can think of in size and scope (that I can think of right now) is Juan Pablo's fire at the Daytona 500 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZTbeoWJfNBpmbM ) that one is the full broadcast, this is the fire: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3vCZZlooshnhrc JFYI: Jet Dryers were actual jet engines used to dry the track after rain or oil/fluid spills and the speedy dry went down, they would come out.

There are currently 3 OEM's in Nascar, Chevy, Toyota and Ford. At one point Dodge was also, but they left a while back. Rumor has it that Honda -may- be interested. Even though this was answered in the video, yes Nascar goes to non-oval tracks, we call them Road Courses. However, the majority of the tracks are oval, but different sizes, different banking, different shapes of ovals, and different surface types(Asphalt, Concrete, and Dirt (well at one time)). Nascar has -some- track limits, but in general not really. A set of s turns at Cota, and the "yellow line" at Superspeedways like Daytona and Talladega. Most times going off track is more harmful than helpful, but in cases of road courses the extra run off, and Pheonix that has a dogleg that drivers cut all the time. Bumping = ok. Wrecking each other = not ok. But its not Nascar that polices, its the drivers. With the exception of intinially right rearing someone into the wall at intermediate or higher tracks. Doing that is very unsafe and can lead to serious injuries. So if you are seen, on purpose, hooking the right rear of a car so they spin out and go head first into the wall, you can expect to be suspended for atleast 1 race if not more. otherwise all is fair in love and war as they say.

Yes Chris NASCAR is an amazing sport. They race multiple road courses in a season. Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Sanoma, Watkins Glen and the Chicago Street Race to name a few. The manufactures are Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota. There are also teams with multiple drivers. However winning is the number one goal. Not always teamwork. There is so much strategy that goes into it. The driver has communication with the Crew Chief and his spotter during the race. The Crew Chief is constantly looking at computers strategizing fuel, tires, the best line to run etc. The spotter is watching from up high to let the driver know where the other cars are in relation to their driver. Sometime if you get a chance watch some NASCAR Radioactive videos. It is the communications between the team.

There are very short oval tracks with high banking, there are very large oval tracks where the cars engine have to be restricted to keep them from driving dangerously fast, there are road courses with lefts and right and even dirt track racing sometimes. Back in the olden days one race was half a lap on pavement then half a lap on the sand beach. Variety.

BTW the slingshot move is just our word for staying in the slipstream until you're going fast enough to outrun the car in front usually on a straight. And blocking is as you said just putting your car in front so they cant pass. also there are only a few manufacturers rn in Nascar, you've got chevy, ford, and Toyota, they used to have dodges and more. and yes these cars are incredibly tough and the safety crews are even better.

Primarily ovals with road courses sprinkled in but there are different types of ovals. Slingshot is using drafting (slipstream) to gain momentum to pass the car in front of you. You can wall a driver on purpose but it’s frowned upon by all of the drivers. Strategy is a massive part of how you pick your way through the field.

Oval racing is a battle against the track as much as it is against the other drivers. So much is about how you approach the corner with relation to your tire wear so you don't completely blow it or burn off your grip so much you start losing speed. Every track is different, and there's no one best line at every oval. The inside is shorter but you usually have to slow up more, and the outside lets you carry more speed but it's longer. It's all situational. The big tracks where you see the giant wrecks and photo finishes are infrequent but spectacular. They're so big and banked so high you don't have to lift off the throttle if you don't want to, so it's all about using the slipstream to generate bursts of speed. Contact is totally legal. NASCAR only polices the egregious intentional crashes. The "bump and run" is an old school move where you literally shove another car from behind out of the lane you want. Totally legal. The drivers police that amongst themselves- you do something wrong, you pay for it in crumpled metal or a fistfight. Last thing- I've been on NASCAR KZbin since I was like 9. I'm 20 now. There's a pretty resepected and time honored code of not including any crashes that killed drivers in compilations without stating it somewhere. There are sometimes exceptions but usually those don't get snuck in. You may want to familiarize yourself with the more notable fatal crashes so you don't accidentally put them in a video, if that won't bother you.
