Matt, I'm wondering if you guys can do a video on what the paddock looks like at an F1 race when there is also a F2/F3/Supercar race on the same weekend. How do the pit boxes get divided? Where do the F1 boxes sit as opposed to the junior categories? I saw the Supercars coming out of the beginning of the pitlane at Melbourne after quali and was wondering how this all works. Are there enough pit boxes for every F1 team and junior category team? Or do they have to share some times?
@ccramit2 жыл бұрын
Also, does this affect how the F2 and F3 support races are chosen? I know F3 has like 30 freaking cars or something per race. So I assume a shorter pitlane wouldn't make it feasible to have F3 be the supporting race for certain weekends.
@JustTheButler712 жыл бұрын

I did the pit lane walk in Melbourne and basically, the Supercars sat towards the back end of the pit lane near the entry and had their own pit boxes, whilst the F1 cars sat at the front of the pit lane near the exit. This is probably different on every circuit though depending on their capacity.

Exactly, anyone who has raced there on a sim at a fairly high level knows how hard it is to pass. Even with DRS the straight is really short for F1 because of how slow that last corner is. Adding a SA GP at Kyalami would be a great thing, but not really because it'd offer great racing on Sunday.

Kyalami looks pretty good! It should be added to the calendar as soon as it's Grade 1 ready. The issue though, is that its addition means a circuit has to go, and sadly it's usually another nice circuit (Nürburgring, Hockenheim, Portimão), instead of awful things like Barcelona or Abu Dhabi.
@alexfirefly19562 жыл бұрын
I’d love to see the track, I really do. However I feel like we are on track to have far to many tracks on calendar and I wouldn’t be sure which track to kick (I mean Abu Dhabi and Jeddah certainly won’t be) We really need a rotating calendar, I think that would be the best solution to showcase more tracks without over-saturating the year with races. They could even do a tier ranking with tier 1 having a set slot each year, tier 2 rotating every 2 (like the German Grand Prix was in the early 2010s) and tier 3 every 3 years. Could even do a tier 4 for every 5 years for “smaller” tracks that wouldn’t be able to host a Grand Prix each year. That being said, I think a country shouldn’t hold more than 1, at the absolute most 2 races per year. Perfect chance for venue rotation! I’d argue it would be great. Perfect chance to revisit old venues (if they are able to hold a race), tracks from the 2020 season that probably will not see another F1 race, new chances for new tracks, as well as the opportunity to keep legacy tracks on the calendar, even if they aren’t visited each year. Could even let the fans/viewers vote on which tier a track belongs (though I am sure that wouldn’t be implemented as money talks more than fan opinion)
@habfan1234242 жыл бұрын
Very on board with this. Only a few need to be on the calendar every year. Silverstone, Monaco, Monza, Spa, and arguably Interlagos should never be off the calendar, the rest can rotate.

I don't really agree with this. I know the teams wouldn't like it, but the f1 calendar is still only 22 events long. I couldn't think of any other major sport with this few rounds. Except maybe indy car, but that has different reasons...
@alexfirefly19562 жыл бұрын
@@justluke8730 but you have to consider that 1 event is basically a whole weekend commitment if you want to see all there is. Even if you only gonna watch quali and race, that’s basically Saturday and Sunday booked. In addition for the teams this will mean a lot more costs, having to transport 2 whole cars, spare parts, equipment, and personnel to even more locations that are placed all over the world and not in a particular order of least distance traveled, not to speak of the time commitment for the personnel. They aren’t on circuit for just the three days racing, having to work only then. They’ll basically have to work all week round and are so far away from their families. In football let’s say personell can generally stay living where their team is located and probably their family as well, only going away for games, so maybe 3 or maybe 4 days a week. F1 can’t do that. You are basically gone for huge parts of the year.

@habfan1234242 жыл бұрын
@@justluke8730 in most professional sports, you play half your games in your home city, so there's no travel involved there. Also as someone else mentioned, each grand prix is really 4 days, not one day like a typical sporting event. That onboard gives me a kind of COTA-meet-Hungaroring vibe, in a good way.

I'm patiently waiting to witness a Formula 1 Race at Kyalami, haven't experienced something like it since the A1GP races

As a South African🇿🇦 I'm very happy to see us representing the continent on the F1 calendar, As long as the government doesn't have to foot some gigantic bill it should be smooth sailing

Would love to see this race! My only worry is that in its current state the track feels a bit narrow for the current size of the cars

Absolutely great track to watch, but barely anywhere to overtake

This track is so much fun to drive, not convinced it'll produce great racing in its current layout though. As much as turn 15 slaps, I think straightening it out and creating another DRS zone before the start/finish straight could be a quick fix. Then we can have Sepang-style switchback shenanigans from turn 13 to turn 2

This is brilliant 👏🏻 For almost a century, F1 operated GRAND PRIX races 🏁 👌🏻 😀 👍🏼 😎 🙌🏻 🏁 in South Africa. This is a very welcome return💯

That fast right hander (turn 5?) looks soooo exciting. And that rollercoaster looking hairpin that’s going up while breaking and then going straight back down looks amazing as well! Such a cool circuit!

Couple weeks ago I saw this track was in Assetto Corsa Competizione and feel in LOVE with the it! Its a blast in a GT3 car I cant imagine how it would be in a F1 car. We NEED this track in 2024

The track is actually amazing. Went around it sitting on the passenger side of a Audi R8 V10 during the festival of motoring 2 years ago

You guys are like a drug that helps with the withdraw symptoms between races. Quite a service your providing, love it.

Would be great but they really need more spots for spectators. Watching the GT3 this year, almost half the track has no place to sit and watch

It would be great to have South Africa on the calendar but I hope they widen the track for better overtakes because it looks a bit tight for modern F1 👍🏼

I only remember the '90s Kyalami, which didn't produce any good races. Perhaps the '70s-80s track is the one you're referencing (which appears a little bit in the updated version). Having said that, I wholeheartedly agree with there being at least one African GP.

Kyalami '92 was the first time I ever saw F1 on the TV and I was hooked immediately. Where have 30 years disappeared to?

Kyalami is a treat to drive. In my mind its a version of Spa with the undulations and the dipping chicane which reminds me of eau rouge.

definitely here or it!! having races on all continents would be so cool!!

Also South African. Kyalami is maybe a 2 hours drive from where I live. Would love to see F1 live.

As a South African myself... I know that F1 is HUGE at home !!! It always makes me so proud of where I come from when I hear things like this 🇿🇦🇿🇦
@layeththesmacketh2 жыл бұрын
Definitely need to add this to the F1 calendar, the track looks great and MUCH MUCH less likely to put people to sleep than say...Paul Ricard or Monaco. F1 does not feature anywhere on the ENTIRE continent of Africa. It will no doubt be a brilliant addition, instead of having like a million races cropping up in USA.

I think they should cycle some tracks in and out each year so we can have all of the tracks without over saturation of races
