This channel is great. To be honest, I never had any feelings about Sauber, but since I found this channel I really started liking you. All other F1 teams use their channels just for PR stunts, your Tech Bites really explain everything that's interesting in F1.

Its amazing how much information the Sauber team shares with its fans.
*Learn about F1 telemetry in this insightful video!* Can you spot when one of the wheels blocked? Some facts & figures: ► some *140 sensors* are built into the race cars ► *10 MB* of data *radio-transmitted* per car per lap ► *20-30 MB of data* per car *per lap in total* ► *30 GB* of collected and computed data *per race weekend* ► *4 engineers per car* monitor the data *Follow **Sauber F1 Team** for more amazing content!*

Is there also a sensor that measures the air quality (e.g. oxygen content) at the air intake? Does a car driving in front of you affect this with it's exhaust gas?

OMG!! Thank You So Much Sauber Team, I can now read Telemetry!!!! I'm a budding PC Sim Racer and I have been trying to learn how to read my telemetry data for well over a year now, and in 7 minutes, you showed me how to actually UNDERSTAND what I'm looking at when no other site I've searched could. I can't thank you enough!! Subscriber for life right here! I will always be in your debt!

Really great to finally see some telemetry. Going to share this with our guys in PrestoGP. Also nice to see that the custom maths i made for MoTec are in the right direction, comparing LF-LR and RR-RL tire speeds. Just awesome tool to find out if the diff is set wrong or why those front lockups happen (combined with ARB analyze, simple left/right suspension travel comparisons..) If some of you fans use MoTec, i can share my custom maths, just PM me.

by the way, do engineers test f1 parts or even the model of f1 car in a windtunnel with some moisture in air (to understand aero aspects in wet conditions, maybe it gives more downforce, because wet air's density is higher that dry, but from the other side tires has less grip of corse)
@sauberf1team10 жыл бұрын
No, Evgeniy Pinchuk, wind tunnel testing is under "clinical" conditions. Moisture or heat are not simulated.

Nice. I always wanted an insight on the more technical bits of the sport. Now I'm waiting for a full analysis of this video by Scarbs. BTW: This is fiorano in a 2014 car. Aren't filming runs (as I suppose it was one) with current cars limited to 150 kp/h? Adrian passed the 200....
@ApexwithDavin10 жыл бұрын
I thought the filming days were just limited to just mileage, not speed.
@Phil-qo1zc10 жыл бұрын
Davin Sturdivant I'm pretty sure they're limited in speed, mileage and tyres. May look up the § in the Sporting Regulations later.
@ApexwithDavin10 жыл бұрын
22.1 - Each competitor will also be permitted to carry out two Promotional Events (PE) with the above cars which will not be considered TCC. A PE shall be defined as an event in which a competitor participates purely for marketing or promotional purposes. No such test may exceed 100km in length and only tyres manufactured specifically for this purpose by the appointed supplier may be used. --- Tires and mileage. Nothing about speed. That wouldn't make much sense. Anyway
@sauberf1team10 жыл бұрын
Whoohoot, experts talking! Correct, no speed limit (top speed was 243 kph for this particular lap).
@Lil_Hondo9 жыл бұрын
Do the numbers in for the dampers represent the distance they expand and contract? Are those milimeters? or how does it work?
@aerogrp10 жыл бұрын
I see lots of time series data which, I'm guessing, is where you get the preponderance of your results, but how much analysis is done in the frequency domain? Specifically, are there any correlations between sensors that you find useful? Your numbers on data storage were surprisingly low given the number of sensors you employ. A rough estimate tells me you sample at around 400-500Hz (assuming simultaneous sampling, 16-bit resolution, 90-sec lap times). If your CFD guys are like ours, they are probably dying for more data.

Great video! Looks like the rear-suspension is too soft especially in rebound? (Bigger amplitudes compared to the front) Could you tell something about? Did you choose a wrong setup purposely to show the datas?
@sauberf1team9 жыл бұрын
No particular setup optimisation in this case as we only used the car for the filming. No pushing?
@mjfan12308510 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. How long do you keep the data? Is it permanently archived? Or is it deleted at the end of the season? Will the data be useful from a past season? Of course set up info from past events at a track will be useful but not everything from every session?
@sauberf1team10 жыл бұрын
mjfan123085 Thanks for watching! Yes, we keep and archive the data in order to be able to compare historic and current data. Historic data is also relevant for some of the calculations in our simulations.
@Syphus3235 жыл бұрын
I’d imagine you’d want to archive every season, categorizing every track, then try machine learning techniques to improve the performance for the next seasons

Thanks a lot for sharing! Do you do heavy data mining, or just monitor the data? if you do DM, then do you outsource it or you have internal people doing that?
@sauberf1team10 жыл бұрын
Well, we wouldn't call it data mining, but the data is analysed for hours after each session. During Friday and Saturday sessions, additional engineers anaylise the data back at the factory in Hinwil. The drivers discuss the data together with their race engineers to find improvements, too.
@gevrapatapich10 жыл бұрын
Sauber F1 Team I would expect the DM to be done on the data of the other sensors (say on engine/gearbox/tire degradation etc) and to be used for car tuning/setting/optimizing. Do you think the big teams (with a lot of resources) use the data much more than you do?
@sauberf1team10 жыл бұрын
No, all the teams rely heavily on the data to improve the cars.
