I am just learning to shift manually and i recognized that you shift pretty late, resulting in high revs. Isn't it bad for the engine? How are your temps during a race. Are you forced to shortshift after some time?

I started using manual and suggested about 7 months ago. literally changed my life. So much faster than before and I have a lot more control almost especially on tracks like Spain and Malaysia as you can choose your gears. It didn't take too long to learn as well, I only practiced for like 2-3 weeks before I got the hang of it.

I only gained like 3 tenths when I went to manual gears on F1 2012 :P. And did you go straight to manual gears or did you use manual and suggested?

Awesome tips for beginners pal! I've been driving with no assists since F1 2012 and had some frustrating times back then, because i didn't know how to get any better at the game. My additional advice to your tutorials to all newbies out there, struggling to handle "no assists" driving is to watch actual onboard videos of real F1 drivers. In my case i was absolutely shit at F1 2012 when i first played it back in 2013. So i just watched real onboard footage of all the F1 tracks during the 2007 - 2012 season and basically laser scanned all information into my mind. Checked when or where real drivers turned in, got onto the brakes or what gears they were on. Eventually it payed off after almost half a year of practicing. Now i can't drive if any assists are on, except the racing line, as i'm not entirely familiar with the newer tracks like russia, mexico, korea etc. Have a good one!!!

TRL Limitless Just a question pal. Are you playing sims like Assetto Corsa, R-Factor etc. as well sometimes?! I saw one of your q&a vids where you told your fanbase that you did karting very successfully. So it'd be great to see you on those games too, if you are maybe planning on doing such vids in the future, as you are one of the fastest and most consistsent "virtual drivers" i've ever seen! Anyways Have a good one and who do you think is gonna be this seasons F1 World Champion?! *Rosberg has the best package. Lh44 has the chance to attack him. Both Ferraris and Red Bulls definitely can improve massively and who knows may or may not even be true championship contenders?! I hope The Iceman gets more podiums though! Greetings from Germany!!! =)

Hi JD i have used manual gears since 1996 and over the years i have really tried to go auto because it is less work but i just lose that natural feel of the manual.I know people talk about muscle memory and i have to agree after all these years it becomes instinct and even if i use auto my finger tries to change gear without thinking:) Great Video As Always JD.

I have a question. I've noticed 2 different ways to downshift in these kinds of game. Gamers like you and Tiametmarduk would downshift as soon as you brake. However, in real life and some Japanese videos I saw, drivers would brake at the braking point, let the car roll about 50 meters, then shift down. What's the differences between the two styles and what's more effective? Thank you in advance.

Have always in F1 used manual gears but trying to learn how to use the triggers for accelerate and brake (always used to use stick) also just turned traction control off from using medium. Been doing it on Silverstone and so far I am only 20 seconds off your ghost! My 360 controller trigger does not seem to have the best pull for gently feeding it in. Can you adjust how sensative the pull is as I am still a little bit too binary with my acceleration, either off or full and that is the struggle without traction control now.

Why are you using second gear, and then start to complain about traction? My advice is; You don't need second gear (on this track) use third gear instead (even in the chicane, turns 6 & 7), it helps massively on corner exit. The car wont snap out as fast when hitting the throttle after hitting the apexes.
@JDisLimitless8 жыл бұрын
You need 2nd gear to get the extra bite into the corner, without it the car is too understeery for my liking. If it works for you, then go for it of course.

@liverpoolbuttonf1fan8 жыл бұрын
You really really need to practice. I would suggest to go 1st on medium traction controll and if you think you mastered that then drive with TC off. You need to push the trigger very slow. On the exit of low speed corner try to go from 50 to 70 80 and then when your car is straight to 100% throttle. Only use 100% throttle when your car is straight otherwise you'll get wheel spin. I suggest to try TC off with a Mercedes on Monza or Canada in time trail because those are the easy tracks. Good luck
@Moonshine11478 жыл бұрын
F1 2016 will have a throttle and brake hud. That should help you out a lot to see why you spinned or had the massive lock up etc. afterwards. Also try to check out some actual onboard videos of real F1 drivers, it'll help you understanding on what gear / throttle / brake you'll have to be on specific corners. That's how i learned it 3 years ago on F1 2012. Wish y'all luck on your journey to no assist!

I have to disagree with you on some gears and short shiftings you did because these new F1 cars has the double of torque compared to the V8s (660 to 680Nm vs 250 to 270Nm) so you don't need like in the first corner to be in 2nd gear or like the chicane use the torque and stay in 3rd gear.

Thanks for the new tip. When I learned to manually shift it improved my lap times and enjoyment of F1 2015. If i didn't know the track I would start in automatic and learn the circuit and the turns, and then turn off automatic shifting. As a newbie when I started manual shifting I took it in increments of two. So if I was in gear 8 and I had a 3rd gear turn coming up, I would downshift 1-2 downshift 1-2 then downshift 1. It seemed to work better in my mind. Then when I became fast I would quickly downshift 12345 but I soon started locking up the rear on almost every turn. Timing your downshifts is crucial to avoid lockups and improve your lap times but as you said, over time it does become automatic in your mind. I Still wish I could get my wheel spin under control on exits though. I hope you do a tip on wheel spin on corner exits at some point. For instance Austria turn 2... I struggle with it terribly running no assists.

Is this for an US audience? In Europe we learn to drive manual as soon as we get a driver's license so it comes natural in every sim/semisim racing game I've played to use manual from the start. Perhaps it could take about half an hour to learn in the first racing game you try manual gears but then it comes natural whatever game it is. I'm not bragging I think this is the case for almost all Europeans who have a driving license and also using a real car from time to time.
@jessesimecek78357 жыл бұрын
Saturn Mell yeah exactly, the thing is that a lot of players don't have their license therefore struggling with gears..
@akmal94ibrahim7 жыл бұрын
There are also lots of people who learned manual driving for their license (it is the case in my country, Malaysia) but afterwards they only use an automatic car till they can't drive a manual properly anymore.
@Liofa737 жыл бұрын
Just because you can drive a manual car, doesn't mean you know what gears and speed to drive each corner of an F1 track... And yes... You are bragging.
@lilHamster9t77 жыл бұрын
I can drive a car manual (even at speed) quite comfortably, whether it's stick or paddle. I, however, use automatic in F1 2017 (I generally try to ghost-shift, as in moving my fingers to gear up and down without actually shifting) because it's an entirely different scenario, you need to know EXACTLY when you need to be shifting and almost exactly what gear to be in for each part of a corner or you're not going to be competitive. It is nowhere near similar enough to be comparable in my honest opinion
