I have a manual gearbox question. Although I assume there is a video coming. I recently started transitioning to manual and found that I have MUCH more consistent lap times, probably due to increased focus. However I found that I can only drive in cockpit cam. That is the only way to have revs and gear number somewhat in the middle of the screen. And always within vision. How do you keep track of your gear (count in head?) and revs (go by sound?) when driving with the T-cam?
@Zerd7 жыл бұрын
Shagy personally I count in my head for going down gears, gets to the point where you don't even need to count, and just use your ears for the revs, you'll hear and feel when you should shift up

Often I am one second slower in quali than the AI, but some tracks I got really suited to going without racing line, beating the AI by one second. Much to be gained though. thanks for the vid

Braking line is a stepping stone. After so many laps, your braking will become muscle memory then doesnt matter if you have it off or on. You said once in one of your videos ages ago IIRC you played f1 2012(?) for a year with braking line turned on. Cant help but feel youre causing some people to run before they can walk
@JDisLimitless7 жыл бұрын

+Swagwan: I assume you drive a car, right? Do you memorize every single breaking point to work, school, or your favorite restaurant? I take it you don't; you just do it regardless of the speed. Good luck.

@Sabba7h7 жыл бұрын
Timmeh Verbraak Lift going into braking zones, shift before you hit the purple band (or halfway through the red, some cars have the LEDs illuminate all at once, i.e Renault, Red Bull, might need to shift by sound), use the throttle sparingly, brake slightly sooner to prevent lockups. Combine all this with consistency and you'll be sipping fuel and stretching the tires further than you ever thought possible.

The problem with me and turning off the racing line is that I cannot estimate the speed I have to carry through the corners. I don't know if it is due to me not using manual gears or if it is something else. I always feel like I have not the right speed through a corner; especially the first corner in china for example where it gets tighter and tighter. Does this come over time or are there some tips for getting a better feeling regarding this? Anyways, nice video and keep it up.

@thealexanderlink7 жыл бұрын
rock Well my final goal is to drive with no assists at all. But i don't know if I should do it step by step or turning off all at once.
@GodfatherBenz7 жыл бұрын
Turn off automatic transmission right now, you should never ever play with automatic gears, it removes any control you can get of the car. Automatic gear shouldn't even be an option. Turn on the shifting BEEP in the options ( the car will BLEEP when it's the perfect time to upshift ). Understand how the weight of the car transfers when you accelerate or brake. Under braking, very important to keep downshifting to help you not lock up the wheels. This is very basic stuff and easy to get used to manually shifting. ABS OFF, TC OFF. Don't even procrastinate, turn these fuckers off ASAP. I suggest you keep the driving line, it definitely helped to learn the basics of taking corners & keeping a good pace. I highly recommend you also turn off anything visible on the screen such as lap time, position, delta, best time, etc. It will help you stay focus and not try to push the car too hard to beat your lap time. Choose 3-4 easy tracks you're most comfortable with, I suggest Gilles Villeneuve, Baku, Monza and maybe Spa to start with. Spend 30-45min on each track and start SLOW. Take the corners smoothly while trying to follow the line as much as possible. Go a bit faster lap after lap, keep following the line, modulate the throttle and brake. You will inevitably spin out and lock up the wheels at first. You just have to understand why it happens and how to prevent it. The key is to stay SMOOTH !! Smooth braking when entering a corner, smooth acceleration when exiting a corner. It does not matter what your lap time is, all that matters is that you keep TRACTION at all time and stay on the track at all times. That's how you get better and consistent. I could go on and on but at the end of the day you simply have to trust yourself and put the effort to get used to the car and the best way is with no assists if you're any serious. You're wasting time playing with assists.
@thealexanderlink7 жыл бұрын
rock Really thank you for your advice. I really appreciate this. I guess I really should stop procrastinating and start NOW with driving with no assists. At least I already can drive without TCS and ABS (those are the only assists i have turned off atm) so I don't have to focus on too much. I just drove like 30 mins at Bahrain and after some time you don't even notice that you're shifting manually anymore. It's all a thing of getting used to it and taking the time for it I guess. But thanks again for your advice.

I honestly don't care about elite gamers and their taboo on assists. The way I see it is that racing line is good for the player to catch a glimpse of how you tackles corner. Once you get get pass the basic, you should turn it off so you develop your own racing line. Without racing line, I went from being complete clueless at Spain to setting an okay time in just 3 hours. Turning off RL really helps at getting better.

@GodfatherBenz7 жыл бұрын
put it at 50% or so and modulate the damn brakes! Notice how when you're coming in a corner HOT, you can mash the brakes hard WHILE downshifting at the same time so you use engine braking to its maximum! As soon as you're about to lock up, modulate the brake pedal! Just watch Limitless "pedals" when he comes in to a corner, he goes FULL brakes, downshift 2-3 times, modulate brake pedal.

I tried to race without the racing line last year and it went absolute awful. 1st I started to do sprint races online, but because I'm so used to the racing line and didn't know where to brake or turn in. As a result of that I broke too early or late for every corner and turned in too late/early. After a few days doing this I decided just do to TT laps at a certain track. Those went a bit better(still pretty bad) but it was pretty boring cause I was inconsistent and slow. So I stopped doing that and went back to using the racing line. I only use ABS and racing line btw. So any tips for that?
@liverpoolbuttonf1fan7 жыл бұрын
JASON F1 I also tried that but that went horrible😂😂. I was like 6 seconds slower than normally. F1 is the only racing game I play. I just don't know where to brake. I brake at 100M which is too early. Then 70M which is too late. Then 65 cause I notice it too late. This for every corner can be very frustrating expecially when you're kinda a casual player who still is in the top 200 TT on and is only 0.5-1 sec slower than AOR split 1 on most tracks with assists
@k3y53r50537 жыл бұрын
liverpoolbuttonf1fan It's really all about learning the tracks. Look for landmarks for break points (often the 100m board, when curb starts etc) you'll need to essentially look for them on the corner of your eyes. Turning off the racing line is the best thing I've done.
@luchipunchi987 жыл бұрын
Dude, about three years ago I was using racing line in every racing game. After a year I started disabling it in games like Forza Motorsport 4 and Grid, got used to it quite quickly though, however I thought there's no way I could make it without racing line in F1 games since consistency is key but really hard to achieve. All of a sudden, I decided to switch it off, and it is SO much more fun now!! Sure it takes time and practise in every single track, but that's what makes it more enjoyable!! I find myself doing lap after lap after lap on my own and it's still very enjoyable to simply... drive. There's no way I come back to using racing line. To sum up, you should start with a game that has slower cars like Forza, GT, Project Cars or even Assetto Corsa. Just practise consistency and braking points. Trust me, racing will start making so much more sense to you if you disable the racing line.
@marcofragomeni99146 жыл бұрын
the point is how much time one can spend in practicing, meaning time of one's life after work, family and other obligations. i live alone and working +-10 hours with commuting, when home there's cleaning,washing machines, cooking. Hardly i could dedicate more than 5 hours/week for gaming, meaning i can do 2 race weekends with full practice and 25% race. I'm the perfect example of casual player type and i enjoy more going forward in the game than struggle in TT to learn breaking points. Doing that I'd never be able to complete a 3 years season career from sauber and move to more competitive team and fight for wins.

Why do you even put assists on? Turn them all off and learn how to drive from there, it will be much easier! Just simply have to play SMOOTH.
