Yes, too much oil can cause too much stress and resistance on the motor. I would drain some out until you're in the ideal range on the dip stick.

Just for what it’s worth, when removing oil filter, if you loosen it just enough to wear oil first stars to drain out, and let it drain out slowly before pulling it, it shouldn’t drain in both directions unless overflowed.

@@jacobsupgrades it’ll only drain out the rear side, not the front if you loosen only until it just starts coming out. Otherwise it will overflow through both front/rear. No problem man I just learned this trick myself too lol.

@HighRidgeHandyman, thanks for the comment. My trucks a 2015 F150 5.0V8. All models 2011-2017 require 7.7 qts of oil. 2018 to present was updated to the gen3 5.0V8 that has increased bore diameter and compression ratio requiring nearly 9 qts of oil. Which year truck do you have?

Some KZbinrs recommend 5-30 weight on the F150 5.0 instead of 5-20.

@trkn5681, you can run either. 5w-30 is better for extreme cold. You can do synthetic blend for full synthetic also.
