THIS is an airshow! This is what the jets are made for and the crowd here is very lucky to see them tangle like this even if it's mock battle. I have been to many airshows and never have I seen any more than a simulated bomb run where they fly over preplanned explosives ditches and someone nearby lights them off... or maybe you get some very pretend battles with WW2 airplanes "jousting" with an F-15 for a pass or two and it's kind of meant to show the disparity in the technologies. But YES to mock jet battles and stick bending to show the crowd something military about the jets. Formation flying is impressive, but ten dragsters driving down main street in formation is cute, but you really want to see what they are built for by racing, this is the same for the jets.

I think these planes are pretty evenly matched, the F-16 can rate with any planes save ones with thrust vectoring. The Mig 29 is like the Hornet with its nose authority and low speed fighting ability. With off boresight missiles it is nasty…. The F-16 is a smaller target. Both have greater than 1:1 thrust weight ratio. The fight would belong to the better pilot IMO.

Down low the F16 should be able to easily out rate a mig 29 but at higher altitudes the Mig will have the advantage with its nose authority.

The Mig has the high off boresight missiles with the targeting helmet, but few planes can accelerate climb and lob AMRAAM missiles at high speed for BVR engagements like an F-16 and its pilots describe it as a the “hot rod” of the sky. BVR engagements result in the most kills now.

Will really depend. Mig-29 has better low speed nose authority, so it might be able to get a HOBS missile off first. But if the f-16 can drag the mig down to the ground and rate it it will win.

@@mitchjames9350 not how it works. With missiles most fights end up getting dragged down to the deck because trading altitude for energy is very easy to do. Lets say the mig starts to climb, which means itll become slower, turn slower, be less able to maneuver, and overall end up as an easier target for the f16 which can just sit below it, and pull its nose up briefly to fire a missile.

Agree an air show doesn't Show more than what is set up. However looking at the smoky tails after the MIGs indicating old engine controlled and not optimal performance. And at the end of the day: If they get into a dogfight situation with the enemy, something didn't work, as the F16s probably would have engaged their enemy beyond visual range.

Statistically? The F-16 has a thrust to weight ratio advantage over the Mig-29 at most combat weights. Its also inherently unstable making it easier for the airframe to gain and maintain high G. The Mig-29 on the other hand is a stable design, which is why early models can be without fly-by-wire, even if later versions are with fly-by-wire, the design itself is still stable which makes it more difficult for the Mig-29 to pull Gs. “Below 200 knots, the MiG-29 has incredible nose-pointing capability down to below 100 knots. The F-16, however, enjoys an advantage in the 200 knot-plus regime. At higher speeds, we can power above them to go to the vertical. And our turn rate is significantly better. F-16 was put into service I believe 1979, the modern Russian aircraft (despite their flaws) still have a good chance in a 1v1 against a F-16 considering their better turning rate. Aircraft like the SU-57 should have a fairly easy time staying on a F-16s tail if they're not shot down before they can even get close with one.

They dont want to depend on Russia when their migs will need upgrade, new radars, IRST, avionics, onboard computers, etc. An F16 block70 is much better than an ageing mig29 "9-13" from 1993, but a similar mig with an AESA radar and R77M missiles is on par with this F16.

I love everything about MiG-29's, they are exactly what a true fighter is supposed to be, but at the same time so are F-16's. The MiG can wreck the F-16 in the first turn, but if he doesnt the F-16 will rate the crap out of him and take him out.

@@LockedOnAviation This is a very general statement too its all about the pilots these days, the planes are so evenly matched its usually who gets the jump. The MiG-29 is well known to be able to really flip its nose on you quick in that first turn, but at a cost of a lot of airspeed so its risky. The F-16 is extremely good at rate fights, it outrates almost anything.

They are the older engines, newer russian ones dont throw out nearly the amount of exhaust. Ultimately there is nothing wrong with the engines, they perform just as well as American made engines. We even used to have smokey exhaust on our planes. The F4 would throw it everywhere.

No aircraft is superior than other... Machine designing borns from needs so every country design their own aircraft fits their own needs. Russians design cheaper, lighter, not well-equipped but easy to maintain aircrafts with enormous numbers because of their military doctrines, economical and political situations. Americans design more expensive, complex and high-end aircrafts with relatively less amounts because US Senate extremely cares the budget policy and US military doctrines are different. Please watch this video only for entertainment purposes. Making realistic military analyses require lots of advanced mathematical calculations, designing and analysing a military policy is completely an art of numerical optimisation which sometimes requires high tech computers and we cannot compare force multipliers with only talking about capabilities of weapons.

In serve for a wealthy country or a poor one which struggling with international embargos? Or at high or low altitude? During a nuclear war or conventional one? Did you add these factors as constraints of variables to your non-linear mathematical model for analysing the superiority of MiG-29? And which MCDA algorithm did you use for making this comparison? Of course, MiG-29 is one of the most succesful aircrafts in the world but in reality, fighter planes never fight alone. And if we consider another factors, we can see that technological superiority doesn't mean anything alone for realistic comparison. This is valid for both F16 and MiG-29. And, remember that a WW2 infantry rifle proved that it can shotdown an Apache in suitable circumstances :)

@@LockedOnAviation East German pilots used this smoke for deception when they flew trials with the West Germany F16 pilots. It appears on max dry thrust mode, but disappears on afterburner. You can show this trail, then switch to aft and change your flightpath and altitude, and your opponent will scan space in the direction of the trail in vain for some time with his radar until he realizes that the mig has gone the other way long ago 😁 AWACS can give you the clue if it is in the area and there is no heavy jamming.

What a load of bullshit 💩 mig 29 has nothing to do with f15 or f18 design , the fact is the f15 was stolen from the mig 25 design. F18 first flight 1978 while mig 29 1977 and its development started way before f18 .
