Digital dashes were a thing in the 80s and 90s, particularly in American luxury car brands... Once they lost their novelty, analog gauges had their comeback. I think the whole car was designed under the motif of subtle, almost organic change of material; gradually transitioning horizontally. Most evident in the front grill’s transition from solid to open (also the reason for the same color), and the head/tail lights minimalist lines that follow the shadows created by the slight curves. Great design

I teach at a German University and in a class of 25 only one student would choose the Ferrari language of design over Porsche or BMW, and that student was Italian. Society really does inform us. I’m British Italian and have made it my job to influence my students to appreciate design. Thanks for your fabulous insights.
@connor86274 жыл бұрын
For me it’s hard to say that the design language of one top car brand is superior to another. Of course people will have their preferences but we should all appreciate equally the unique artistic/creative expression encapsulated in each design. Take the Holy Trinity of hypercars (P1, 918, LaFerrari) I love them all equally but for very different reasons. The cars speak to the individual in different ways but that doesn’t mean one is any less beautiful or awe-inspiring than the other
@sarcatstix4 жыл бұрын
I acknowledge your point totally. I noted there is a certain trend towards an aesthetic within groups. Living in Germany with its bauhaus modernism juxtaposed with fachwerk timber framing seems to influence design. efficiency is valued extremely highly here. Lamborghini has an aesthetic very different to Ferrari but both speak to me of Italianess as does the Alfa. I have restored 3 Jaguar xk140s so my love of voluptuous sweeping curves should be obvious and yet while I appreciate Porsche’s curves I don’t love them. Completely subjective in that sense but looking through the history of art you can see a cultures influence on the art and design it creates.
@connor86274 жыл бұрын
@@sarcatstix I completely agree, it's also worth noting just how much design language is informed by era/time-period. Take the boxiness and sharp lines of cars from the 80's (F40/E30 M3) and compare it to the curves/voluptuousness of cars from the 90's (F50/XJ220). Trends are subject to constant change
@sarcatstix4 жыл бұрын
Connor Reid Oh totally, there are certain Lancias that can be seen as “boxy” the countsch with its futuristic planes - but they all have something that makes them work. I really appreciate some American muscle cars dynamics from the 70s. (And a huge soft spot for the cinquecento). Time changes tastes and rightly so - each era adds something.
@connor86274 жыл бұрын

Congrats on 60k, Frank! I agree that the grille being the same color as the body is a bit jarring. When the no-grille Teslas first came out, it was very strange to look at....like a face with no mouth. As we became exposed to that visual signature, we became more comfortable with it. With electric cars becoming more prevalent, this "hidden grille" will become more commonplace, I think. It feels odd on a Ferrari, though, since the grille subconsciously communicates the need to cool off an awesomely powerful engine (I'm purely speaking from a perception standpoint here).

more of an attempt at elegance. It's a Mclaren Senna with a better body, a racecar that was far too modified for street use

It's truly a beautiful car, but I have a hard time seeing "Ferrari" when I look at it, especially the front end. And I'm trying to like the grill, but it rubs me the wrong way. Reminds me of old CRT desktop monitors. Other than that, this car truly defines the quintessential fast, luxurious touring car

that thin front makes it a Ferrari, I can recognize that nose anywhere

Some things just don't need changing. They should've kept the circular tail lights in my opinion.

It’s closer to old Ferrari’s than you think....particularly that grill. Should be round lights though.

I don't like the grill, either. First thing you notice and it's just odd, almost like an electric car. The rear is beautiful, though.

The F430 has always been iconic in design. I love it since I have a Spyder. Incredible job on your design. I don't like the Roma at all. Looks like a Jag. Make a smaller version of the F12 TDF and you'll have a winner forever. I know these are all about aerodynamics; but this one is a step back in design.

Love your video analysis, Frank. I’ve been a Porsche guy for 45 years and when I saw the ad for the Roma pop up in my feed, I was floored. I think the front grill is what made me take a second look. Perhaps that was the intention of the design by Ferrari?
@robertho17703 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much foe a great review. They have a chrome option for the front grill which I wanted but at the end decided to save a bit of money - but I will definitely go for it now 🙏👍

@@THESLlCK A lot of cars do, they share the same parent company too. But as @shmee150 pointed out this design might've been taken from Maserati and then tweaked into a Ferrari.

@@PorscheFanatic I honestly doubt it, but it's a possibility. I really like the look of the alfieri, and prefer it to the MC20 in more ways than one.

Very interesting comments. The Grill does lacks visual appeal, aluminium coloured, larger squares for me would enhance presence. Looks “weak” as it is. Glad no side badge, looks brash, shouts look at me, Ferrari! Not my style. The concept is wonderful, a car again! Not a projectile! An update on those wonderful 50s/60s/70s cars we treasure so much now, more please like this! I could be tempted!

I totally agree with the desire of the grille to be black, but this is not my biggest issue with this car. My biggest issue with this car is that is has a very laggy infotainment system. Sure, the screens are beautiful, but the software is a bit too much for the weak hardware to handle. I do believe, however, that this is the best looking amongst the recently released cars, especially when compared with the german brands.
