Could this not be a way for Netflix to protect their investment into raw by getting out in front of the allegations, try to set the narrative and distance themselves from Vince since wwe is still getting sued?
@kellyvaters16893 ай бұрын
It was largely already in the can a while ago. However, the amount spent on this documentary, combined with all the business and legal drama to follow, put the network in a conundrum. They had to put it out because otherwise it would have been a waste of millions in production costs spent; plus it might have been seen as another “catch and kill” scenario which might have hurt Netflix reputationally. At the same time, it couldn’t be released without the Janel Grant case mentioned because it had to acknowledge the most recent developments, again to head off accusations of it being a puff piece or, worse, of “catch and kill”. Netflix, and WWE, want to present pro wrestling as having moved on from this level of malfeasance. To glorify the man on top of this growth, in the face of his role in keeping this evildoing going, would have undermined that movement and might, over time, might have placed a huge target on the industry’s back.

Didn't Netflix cancel the doc once the sexual abuse news broke? I thought this entire time it was a cancelled project, then bam, Netflix releases a 90 second trailer. So I was super surprised to see they're releasing it, especially after WWE signed with Netflix. You certainly don't wanna start your new relationship off with a hit piece on the company and former owner. Interesting way to kick off a partnership, indeed. Even if they don't sensationalize too much, it's still an ugly story to tell. The idea of forcing people to sign NDA's as a tactic to cover criminal behavior is an interesting topic I hope they explore. I remember Harvey Weinstein practiced similar shit in his case.

@thylocene06063 ай бұрын
People need to just stop being sensitive about the word because “fixed” isn’t the right word either. Kayfabe is dead and buried and who gives a toss about the media when wrestling is bigger than it's ever been. Yea slams hurt. Yea some of the stuff wrestlers do is dangerous.
