Pieced together some of the key steps into my exhaust build. I have to say that although this was quite a journey I am very pleased with the final outcome, all the components really play well off of each other and has not only improved sound but also increased performance and even reduced weight.
The two constants are obviously the car which is a Comp Pkg F80 M3 and on all three steps the car has the Carbahn Stage 1 + Burble Tune
Part 1:
Stock DP;
Custom X Pipe with secondary cats delete
DINAN muffler
Part 2:
VRSF DP;
Custom X Pipe with secondary cats delete
DINAN muffler
Part 3:
VRSF DP;
Active Autowerke Equal Length Mid Pipes;
DINAN muffler
In terms of my own timeline...
The DINAN Muffler was the first thing to go on and what drew me to it was that I liked the stock Competition Pkg sound but it was too quiet and that's exactly what DINAN offered, same tone but more volume.
The custom mid pipes were next, given that my car was one of the early comps, there were no real options here so went custom and had an X pipe instead of factory resonator and did a secondary cats delete at that point.
From there added the VRSF downpipes, and what a boost these were on the performance side of the table! Now at this point, the exhaust was definitely on the obnoxiously loud side of things, as you can tell in the video, no mic (or human ears) could really handle it.
The last piece of the puzzle were the Active Autowerke Equal Length Mid Pipes. I was a bit skeptical about these but WOW, they made such a huge difference and really took whatever rasp and rawness that was there and turned it into a deep tone, really happy with these. I did go with the resonated ones given the fact that I have catless downpipes.
Hope this helps anyone who is in search of the right setup for them
