Faber-Castell Polychromos 111th Anniversary Limited Edition 3/4 Size Colored Pencils

In this video I unbox and review the Faber Castell Polychromos 111th Anniversary Limited Edition pencils in the 3/4 size. These pencils are meant to recreate the original set of Polychromos that Faber Castell released 111 years ago. I won’t lie these pencils are super cute! They are the same diameter and have the same core size as the modern pencils. Additionally modern pigments are used to recreate the hue of the original pencils. Lastly, the packaging and even the printing on the pencils resembles the original. Like the first Polychromos names are not printed on the pencils so you will have to keep the included number to name chart.

Good to see you explaining these. So a facsimile set of their first pens. I was wondering what they were. I might or might not get them. I haven't decided yet. Interesting note on "Indigo" (to amuse you). To me, coming mainly from oil and watercolors, names on pencil colors are often confusing. But it turns out there is actually some basis for using "Indigo" for the "wrong" color. "Indigo" is both the name of a dyestuff/pigment, and the name of two (different!) colors. One of those colors is the color of the pigment - a dark, greenish and blackish, somewhat dull blue, the color that jeans used to be in the beginning (because they were originally dyed with Indigo). The other color "Indigo" - also dark, blackish, but violet'ish instead of greenish -, comes from the rainbow, the definition of rainbow colors, made by Isaac Newton I think, where he postulated that the color after blue was to be called "Indigo".

You chose the right time to take that cruise, and spend your summer in London in 2019. The new normal we are living in these days, you’d not be able to make such trips.

I know that’s right. We actually loved the cruise and London so much we had plans to do both trips again this year. Needless to say both have been cancelled. We have a cruise rebooked for late august 2021 lord knows If that will happen. We didn’t even reboot the trip to London so we think that’s not happening till 2022.

Just bought them for myself online because the shipping was free and they are cheaper than the larger 12 pack. I also bought them for portability purposes and because they didn’t look unusable because of this review, I was sceptical that they may be too small out of the tin but if I wear them down fast then I’ll get a pencil extender ❤️ Thankyou for this in-depth review.

In comparison to the standard 36 Pencil-Set I have (Metalbox or Atelierbox) I would have 25 new colors and 11 colors that I would have twice/double with the limited 111 years 36 Set.

It was my understanding that the colors in the commemorative sets do not exist in the current sets, even though the names were the same. However, I could be wrong. I had difficulty getting information when I first saw them. Where did you find the small set? I didn't see them on Amazon. I admit to being a pencil junkie. I wanted to get the full set, but haven't yet.

You can see by looking at the color chart whole file name is cc_faber_castell_111.pdf that they are all colors that exist in the full line.

So I checked the Faber Castell website and can’t find any official info to that effect. Indeed they do clearly state the full sized 111th anniversary pencils are identical to the regular pencils. I don’t see any reason to believe that the other pencils are all that different from the current pencils.

@@ColoringKaria I was speaking from the only info I could find when these pencils first came out months ago. I am not surprised to hear I'm not correct. I was intrigued because what I found said the colors were what they first started with and not the same as the current line. New colors always get my interest. So I stand corrected. Now glad I didn't invest the money. Thanks Karia.

I just bought Faber Castell Goldfaber pencils. What's a good blending pencil to use with them? Im new to blending pencils only tried artist loft blender and hated it. Too scratchy

You can blend Polychromos by lightly layering one colour into another. I use this method and I get very smooth transitions. Burnishing isn't very good for blending with these pencils, so you need to keep a very light hand. You can improve your blending by using odourless mineral spirits or citrus terpentine. I hightly recomment the video "basics to blending in colored pencils" from "Lachri fine art".
