For anyone wondering how to actually do this "MIDI-controlled filter in front of white noise" in Ableton Live, here's how to do it (or ONE way to do it at least!): 1) Create a MIDI track with some synth making white noise. I use "Analog" and just turn off OSC1 and OSC2 and turn on the Noise. 2) Add Volcano 3 to that MIDI track. 3) Create a MIDI track and add the "External Instrument" effect to it. 4) In External Instrument, send MIDI to your first track with Analog + Volcano. 5) ... 6) Profit! You can add a MIDI Source to the modulation section and choose "Key Tracking". You can add an Envelope Generator and choose MIDI input (top button to the left of the envelope display). This is a fantastic plugin! Kudos to the product and dev team behind it!
