A lot of folks misunderstand how taking proper care of birds, domesticated, habituated to humans or wild, really revolves around safety issues. Fable and all your birds are so lucky to have such dedicated and knowledgeable people in their lives! And she sure is gorgeous with her new plumage.

Thank YouYoung lady and thank you Fable. I save my toast I don't eat when I dine out. When I get back home, I serve it to the crows They would caa. I would throw toast out the back window for them. It occurred to me that they have been the ones doing the training. Early in the day they come to the neighborhood and caa. That is my cue. So I feed them.. How if they would just talk to me... Perhaps that is too much. But it would be cool!!!

Always fun and educational watching Fabel. She looks to me to be very content. Plus obviously she is very well taken care of by Amy as evidenced by her healthy plumage and demeanour. I've been feeding three neighbourhood resident crows for the past two years with hopes that one day they will feed from my hand. That may never happen but I still consider them my friends as they certainly know me as a treat provider.

Fable is amazing, so intelligent. People making uneducated assumptions on social media, judging unfairly based on their own bias as to what certain animals should behave like. They seem to think they know better than professionals and people who actually raise them their whole life. They voice their opinions like it’s facts, it’s actually the most disgusting part of social media.
@rockreader4298 Жыл бұрын
Amy, always a pleasure to watch you and Fable interacting. She's a funny girl. When I was a youngster, we had a little dog (a circus dog in her own mind) that did many tricks, then immediately took the treats and hid them in the corner, under the buffet, in plain sight. We would pretend not to notice for a couple days, then clean them up, only to have a repeat experience. She provided much merriment. (*V*)

Thanks for another fab video Amy. I don't have Ravens where I live but when I go to my favourite bird watching area I feed kibble to the Crows. They are able to spot me arriving from a great distance and fly to greet me (or rather get their treats). Their eyesight is incredible. They don't feed from my hand yet but they allow me to stand a couple of feet away as they eat.
@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 Жыл бұрын
How long have you been feeding them? The pair I feed, George and Mildred, often arrive with me but the closest they get is 2m/6ft. I’ve been feeding crows in general for the last 2 years and this pair only since last summer on and off. I got more consistent with my feeding for about 6months ago and it seems to be slowly working. For the last month I’ve been taking water and that has been a big success. Mildred loves to drink loads while George fly’s of to stash all the food for later. This week he’s started trying to bathe in his water bowl (just head and neck so far) so I’ve had to get a larger container in the hope that he will get in and have a proper wash.

@@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 Hi ya. I've been feeding the Crows (a group of three) at least once per week, sometimes three times per week, for about a year. I've been more successful feeding mealworms by hand to Robins and Great Tits and meat scraps and dog biscuits to Foxes. I shall be patient and persist in my attempt to hand feed the Crows. Thank you for showing an interest. Good luck with George & Mildred 😊.

@@victoriafisher6934 I used to feed mine hotdogs, sausages, ham slices and cheese and they *love* them all but recently I found out that salt is quite bad for them. Mealworms and suet blocks for birds are crow crack and any unseasoned trimmings of meat, minced beef, chicken or pork, unsalted peanuts, grapes all go down very well. There are a coupe of very informative vids on YT on what’s good and bad to feed them. If I can find the link I’ll post it here.

For people who don't know much about birds: long time aviary people and conservationists here. This is our knowledge and experience. We don't agree with cages except for old and disabled birds, but birds LOVE a decent aviary. Your average bird flies as little as possible, generally speaking, because it is too expensive energetically. The 'wild' birds you see in the garden etc might look like they spend all day in the air, but that's just because you only notice them when they're flying. The exception to this rule are gliders and specialised aerial hunters ie seabirds and swallows, because they are shaped specifically for speedy flight, don't flap much and it's fairly neutral energetically for them to be in the air. Smaller birds are generalists as far as locomotion is concerned; they spend much more time hopping, climbing, walking and foraging than they do flying. They fly to 'do stuff' and that's it- it's not recreational. As long as smaller captive birds have enough room to fly a few metres and back to maintain their health, they are perfectly happy. It's much more important for them to have things to do, see and others to interact with because that's 90% of their natural behaviour. Larger birds need extra exercise periodically, as per falconry, but generally speaking, hawks etc sit on their arses most of the day in the wild, doing very little. Notice the wild ravens in the sky were gliding on the wind and not labouring; otherwise they would have been fucking about in the trees. You know you have a good environment for birds when wild birds install themselves around your aviary and spend all day trying to break into it to enjoy the life you're providing for its residents. Also, most domesticated bird species, even after a few generations in captivity, have lost any ability to survive without being pandered to by us. You can't just 'set them free'- they'll die in 48 hours. There are plenty of shitty bird keepers and facilities and we support their abolition, but the good ones are positive environments for everyone involved, birds and people. You wouldn't suggest wiping out dog ownership because a few people mistreat them. Birds and people have 1000s of years of history together and without this contact with other animals, many people would never get their start in environmentalism, animal welfare and academic advocacy for any number of species and habitats. It sucks that birds need us, because they shouldn't, but people have made a world where they absolutely do, for now. Please consider all of this before ranting against captivity and zoos etc. Hope that helps.

Fable never disappoints in her being a star for the camera! I'm amazed you aren't having to deal with a mass amount of ants or other types of insects with all those biscuits she hides 🤣! Your poor elderly dog and being tempted with yummy biscuits haha! Oh Fable you are a very cheeky girl!

I love the Fable videos so much. They’ve really helped me tell the difference between the crows and the ravens in my neighborhood! In 2021 - 2022 I kept having rather magical experiences with one of the ravens. I started bring cat treats. The crows decided they wanted the park area (which is very small compared to where you are. It’s a dog park with some large old trees on part of the border.). The murder of crows dive bombed a small hawk (maybe a Cooper’s hawk?) out of the area. Finally the Ravens moved. The ravens were only a pair but it seemed like there were 2 pairs separated by 1/2 mile or so. But here it is summer 2023 and the ravens are back! They’re in the big trees so I can only hear them. By the sound of them it’s a pair with a baby (not a chick maybe almost teenager). Thank you for teaching me about ravens!
