Good concept, I think you need to take as much as possible out of the bottom cut to get the tire as close to the door as possible so it still opens, then the tire will sit as deep as possible without interfering with the front wheels...just my 2 cents ,love the work

Hi Chad. The cut out in the fender needs to come backwards as far as you can without hitting the door. It will lower the tire too. The way it is now, the tire is to high. Needs to come lower down. Cheers.
@grantscrimgeour1848 Жыл бұрын
Other models I have seen online appear to have all tyres of the same diameter and all fender mounted spares sitting a lot lower in the fenders. Using larger wheels and tyres than the road wheels and tyres just looks too bulky and out of proportion with the rest of the car. Just my opinion but sometimes less is more. Just a reminder though -_ do not forget to put drain holes/plugs in those pockets to prevent any build up of water....

At the moment I'm not sure about the side mounts either but respect C&J's aesthetic view of what THEY want for the vehicle and will reserve final judgement until the project's complete. What I do know for sure is that I find the channel and Chad's attitude highly engaging, and that keeps me coming back. C&J have found a formula that truly works (in terms of social media engagement/entertainment and I commend them for that.

After seeing the tire in the well from the front it takes away the body line tremendously and gives the impression that the vehicle is gonna be loaded up with a family of 6 moving across country and wanted to make sure they had enough tires to make the trip perhaps a roof rack and trunk rack next! Trailer hitch and pickup bed trailer add on also! Hmmmmmm everyone has a Dream!

I agree (tire height). All of those that I have seen in photos had the top of the tire below the top of the hood. Even the dtrap on mirrors would be too high if used in this case.
@cristianabarsuglia629 Жыл бұрын
Here's a thought: In the 1930s, sidemounts, and even most rear mounted spares, were under metal coverings that were painted body color. What if you got a pair of old covers, cut them down some so there would be adequate clearance for the front wheels and just mounted them without wheels and tires inside, as "dummy" sidemounts? It would provide the snazzy, upscale "look", without the height, weight or clearance issues - who'd ever know the difference? And then just keep your actual spare tire back there in the trunk.

Spare tyres need to sit as low as possible and as close to the door opening without fouling the door. I just felt they didn't 'look' right or seem balanced well higher up? I think it's optical because the car has been lowered, the spare wheels just look too high up, maybe if the roof line was original, they'd probably look about right? This isn't a criticism, I really admire your work and enjoy watching you build cars, you're incredibly talented, it's just an honest observation.

Beautiful work Chad, don't forget to put the drain holes in the tubs. The only thing I see that you will have problems with is tyre rubbing noise because of the tight fit. I'm guessing the fit is so tight because you didn't allowed for the side wall of the tyre when it was inflated? If you look at any spare wheel tub on any factory built car whether inlayed into the fuel tank or on older cars dropped into the side quarter panel standing upright there is always room around the wheel so nothing is rubbing and the wheel is held in place by the bracket. As you say their is more than one way to skin a cat, with your wheel covers (we call them spats (spatz) in Oz like in the UK) the badges could have also been filled with JB Weld in the required spots, drilled and tapped, the only problem with that is making sure you clear the inner frame work of the wheel covers. Your way saves a lot of time and by using 3M double sided tape always guarantees it's on their for life. By floating ideas that you welcome, helps me think about techniques I may not have used in sometime on mine and my customers builds. Cheers from Melbourne Australia.

If you treat the windows like the rear fender, you can make it into a sedan delivery without welding Use a Dutch bend at the top and front of the door, and slip the bottom into the belt For the quarter window remove the glass, and make a bracket that fits Into the glass channel Add bolts to the panel and nuts to hold the panel to the brackets Or use holes in the pillars and bolts on the panels Either way, it is reversible

I've been gone awhile and did not see your decision making on the side mounts. They are too high and too far forward, because of the suicide doors. That may be why they were not originally commonly offered on these cars. Of course you would not have listened to me anyway, Mr. Patina. :) The lowering looks good though, as do the fender skirts. Custom cars are not for everyone, some people like cars with big rims, some like lowrider cars, some like custom paint jobs, some people like plain colors, my point is that you can do what you like to your car depending what you like. We cannot knock down someone that customizes his car different than what we like, that’s why it’s called a custom car. As an owner of a similar age dual side mount car, your setup just doesn't look right. The spare is too high. You can gain some depth by moving it back. It can go all the way back to the point it just allows the suicide door to clear. Then should go as deep as the travel of the turned front tire will allow on full suspension travel. If you have lowered the car at all that will restrict the depth a bit more than normal. But that is all part of decisions made when lowering. The whole idea is to get the tire below view from the driver's seat, have it in a position to be secured on the back side to the frame and still clear the front tire and door. But, the car is your project. Too bad many people will find it odd.
