Dr Gary, I am only 26 and I feel like our culture is messing with our minds! The fact that I’m already thinking I see facial laxity and imagining if my skin was tighter… I think us who grew up on social media have it totally distorted and I fully expect most of my peer group to seek out facelifts etc by 40. It’s scary Edit: I absolutely love the discussion in the replies! Thank you everyone for sharing we are in this together!!

Hey, I’m 25 and I am terrified of the expectations of my 40’s or 60’s. I am so shocked seeing actresses or influencers in their 60’s with less wrinkles than women in their 30’s. I wasn’t fearing getting older until this wave of cosmetic surgery came to such a high peak. What will our generation look like, or approve, or normalise until then? I am just scared

I just turned 30 and suddenly felt like I couldn't recognize my face. I assumed I was aging and was really upset about it until I realized I don't actually look "old", I just look different. I don't have wrinkles or sagging, but my adult face looks very different from my teenage face and I never paid attention to it before. That might be why I felt uglier but I'm starting to feel like my adult face might actually be better in some ways. Either way, turning 30 is such a journey mentally, and I think that is mostly due to societal pressures and expectations, not actual reality. I didn't just wake up one day looking older, it's just the number that made me feel older.

@@sabinerette182 I was thinking the same thing. 30 is not an age where you should be noticing any change so drastic that it concerns you. If that's the case, the rest of the ageing process is going to be earth-shattering for a lot of these young women. Which I already suspected it's going to be anyway. For people in their 20's and early 30's to feel they need surgery and and notice every minuscule change, is not a good sign for their future. I just hit my peri era and my skin is visibly lax, my under-eye area has changed drastically from five years ago. My skin has a texture I don't recognize. This is a time when I'm really struggling, sometimes I cry looking in the mirror. It's so jarring. I was getting carded up into a year ago. Now I don't recognize myself. If I think back to when I was younger and CAN NOT imagine my entire youth being in this mental space! I feel so sad for young women these days. I'm miserable (for now) but I'm glad I can tackle it with the wisdom of an older mind and it didn't take up my entire youth. It's 100% the fault of social media for all of us women at all ages, actually. Social media is the scourge of society.

So I had a tummy tuck, lipo and fat injections 2 years ago. I live in Maine so it's not like Miami or something where surgeons are on every corner with "deals". It was pretty expensive, and there are only a few in my area. During my first consultation the surgeon had been there for like 20 plus years he seemed very nice but something just rubbed me the wrong way. Everything I asked he was like oh yeah that would be fine I can do that. It just gave me a weird feeling and so I chose to meet with the other surgeon in the office, who literally had just started practicing like a year before.( Of course he had been out of school and done his residency and done all of the stuff you're supposed to do for like 13 years but he had just started his client intake) But I had such a better feeling about him and he seemed so honest with the answers. Well I made my appointment it was about 6 months out, and about halfway through that time the original doctor actually left the office and was sued for malpractice. the office staff had a lot to say about him once he was gone. My surgery experience was amazing and my results have been fantastic and his upkeep of me and his concern for me was fabulous. So go with your gut! And don't try to get a bargain when it comes to your life and health!

The next guy I visited with, had long fingernails, and told me My breasts would aim at the floor if I didn't get a lift as well. He grossed me out, and I went back to the lady doctor and told her what he said, she said "Why would they aim at the floor?" I went with her, and got a med. size. They were great. I didn't need a lift also. When I decided to go bigger, I could not use her since she moved to Dubai. The next dr. I went with was a man who taught implants in Tx.

@@Ariadne76-k3d Yes, society tells them women must be beautiful and young to have value. But, if women think staying beautiful is the only way they will get or keep a mate, they need to ask, “Is that mate worth it?” No amount of cosmetic surgery will change the cheating and shallow nature of some men. Women need to stop buying into these male-led narratives. Single life ain’t so bad ladies. Following your passions in life is much more rewarding than chasing beauty. I believe there is something wrong when someone who's around the age of 30 thinks they need plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes only. How do they anticipate what's going to happen when they are 40 or 50 or 60, the consequences and side effects? What impressions are they showing their kids and what would they think if their kids came to them as age 20-30 and said they need cosmetic surgery to look younger like their parents did? Do they let the cycle continue to younger ages and eventually let kids decide for themselves what's best for them which has been proven false already in other areas? These are the questions that need to be asked & answered.
@duma227

I shook my head when she said she’d had multiple kids in a short time. Kids? When you’re mentally messed up and have a shallow and twisted view of yourself and probably the looks of others too? Not fair on them. She clearly has dysmorphia to have had so many procedures since she was 18. It’s sad that we actually accept this and don’t push these people to get psychological help and stop giving their money to an industry that feeds off their usually imaginary insecurities. It’s led her into a life of many surgeries and procedures which all have risks and there’ll be many more because she’s essentially addicted to it - and not only that, she is worsening the integrity of her skin and muscle so that she will need more procedures to keep up with that as she genuinely gets older. It’s really sad.

I get the idea of seeking perfect symmetry in the face. But why are all of us obsessed with looking ethereally perfect? To please who? Because ultimately some ppl will still find you unattractive even with a lot of plastic surgery. I think lindsay lohan has done several facelifts in her 30s and its too much imo. If ppl go on like this, we might end up like the movie 'in time' with justin timberlake and amanda seyfried where people stop aging at 25. And boy is it an odd world. Im ok with plastic surgery, but i think it needs to be done in measure and not done unecessarily if you are still young.

Plus, being "perfectly symmetrical" has been debunked as being automatically associated with more attractiveness. For some, it makes them look uncanny valley. Like seeing someone with "perfectly" flawless smooth skin is usually seen as a good thing until the person starts looking like they are made of plastic. Some of the most iconic models in the world are uniquely beautiful with stand out features that are not always associated with the beauty standard.

These are beautiful girls, but not in an individualistic way. I feel that plastic surgery kind of 'standardises' beauty, so that it's no longer especially beautiful. I'm thinking of Hollywood actresses such as Faye Dunaway, Ursula Andres, Sophia Loren, Demi Moore, Jennifer Aniston - the list is endless, (the last two have had surgery / fillers later in life, but their original beauty is still present). The women in this video are beautiful, probably more if they hadn't had the surgery - their true and individual beauty would have shone through.

When I was younger, I wanted nose and chin surgery. My face has always been round and nose flat. But at 40, my face slimmed down, but the roundness makes me look cute. And I like my nose because my heritage is there. I used to think my skin was aging when I was in my 30s, but boy, was I wrong. Signs of aging are here. They came with the onset of perimenopause at 37ish. I can tell with my cheeks, the spots, and thinning skin. The same Korean products I used to swear by I realized only works on young skin even if its the same condition. Large pores due to sebum aren't the same as large pores due to collagen loss. But I'm finally liking my face and body. My 40s feel good.

3:19 "struck off" in British English is short for being struck off the medical register. Doctors in the UK are regulated by the General Medical Council. Being Struck off the GMC register of doctors means you can no longer practice medicine in the UK and are no longer a doctor of medicine. The GMC is responsible for giving you the status of a doctor who is allowed to practice medicine, and they have the power to take it away.

I've been blessed with a brown skin that needs way more sun than it gets (I have a serious vitamin D deficiency if I don't take meds). The result is that I look more than 10 years younger. I've had people think that my college daughter is my younger partner with us having a 12-year age gap or so. I was 29 when I gave birth to her. It's often hilarious. When people do get my age more or less right it's because they start calculating when they hear I have an adult daughter. One Asian woman looked at the skin on my hand to make an educated guess because apparently it doesn't show on my face. My "secret" is threefold, I guess. There's the fridge I live in while I was made in and for a country where it's always 30°C. There is the fact that my eyes are so sensitive that I can't stand light and thus I wear a hat even inside everywhere other than at home. The third thing is that I started putting this basic (what we call) udder cream on my lower face when I was 35 and on a daily basis when I was 40 simply because my lips would crackle and it doesn't anymore since I'm using that cream every day. I should have done that as a child already because that hurt so much. The corners of my mouth were always wrecked, never knew why. So now I tell one of my daughters who has that same problem to simply do the same. I buy it at the pharmacy so that it has nothing extra and lately I also put it all over my face. I've often wished I could send Dr. Linkov a picture of myself for him to guess my age with all his knowledge because, even though it's funny, I'm still stunned that people are always more than 10 years off. My eldest daughter once told somebody: whatever you think, add 10 years on top of that. And she was right.

Magnesium for sure, because that has caused irreversible problems, so it could very well be that I lacked all the other things you mentioned too. They ask me something like which university I'm going to 😆 I am an Asian living in Europe, and I look like a teenager among my colleagues who are in their early 20s. I'm an educator, and many parents thought I'm my colleagues' assistant when it's actually the other way around (I have a degree in education, actually 2 in 2 different fields, and many of my colleagues don't-they're only 22-23 years old and only have high school diplomas). Many don't take me seriously and think that I'm only 19-20 years old. Somehow I'm tired of that, but I'm glad to age super slowly. I know that my future self will be thankful for me not trying to put on tons of make-up or having plastic surgeries to look more mature.

I wouldn’t want to perform rhinoplastys either! Aside from the potential that someone really won’t like it or might regret it later, I can imagine the majority of people must get breathing complications. I even have some slight breathing complications from having a jaw surgery in my late teens which included adding titanium plates to my upper jaw. I’m fine the majority of the time but I think one side of my nose internally must be a lot narrower than it was before the procedure, because when I get sick now, I often can’t breathe through one side of my nose, and get sinus infections in one side of my nose when I’m sick too.

I used to want rhinoplasty, but I'd be afraid of it would turn out looking worse than what I have naturally. I've also seen a review a woman discussed her surgeries in and she said she can't breathe as well anymore since getting it done. It's just too high risk. Maybe when I'm really old, I might consider something. But bad outcomes scare me. 😱

Struck Off means you've been removed from the GMC (General Mrdical Council) for inappropriate or dishonest conduct OR criminal negligence. It means they are no longer allowed to practice medicine. 🤔✌🏼🇬🇧
