When listening to this video, I can't help but remember the information you provided for the dry brushing video. The fact that mast cells are present under the skin that the massage could "activate." I also think that the term "massage" is a lose term, meaning that the techniques used may really vary in the intensity and level of pressure. I know I received a massage one time when I was out of town at a wedding. This huge man did mine and I could hardly move the next day. (I wasn't supposed to have a deep tissue massage, but I know that is what he did to me! I am also 4'11" tall and am a very small person!) Thank you so much for bringing all of these issues to our attention. I know that since I have stopped using physical exfoliators and my clarisonic, my skin is much less irritated. I use The Ordinary's AHA/BHA mask every two weeks or so, and my skin stays exfoliated and never gets irritated anymore. I also use a glycolic toner and lactic acid serum every three days.

As a rosacea sufferer, knowing that not only are products triggers of redness and flare-ups, but also the way I touch my face what has made a huge difference. I no longer rub products, but pat them onto my face. There''s one thing I struggle with, though. I have to use such gentle cleasers that, sometimes, they don't take the waterproof sunscreen off. Even using oil in the first place. Then, I have to use a cottton pad to remove it, and if it is not soaked in water, it can cause a flare-up, as it happened last week.
@perfumaphilia32466 жыл бұрын
Make sure you're using an oil cleanser, not just a plain oil. Have you tried something like Clinique's Take The Day Off? It has pretty minimal ingredients, no fragrance, and should dissolve the makeup and sunscreen. You massage it very gently into dry skin, add a touch of water to make it milky, continue gently massaging, then rinse it clean. Then use a gentle second step cleanser. This should remove everything for you.

A couple of thoughts about the content of your vlog today... as always, very informative and I rely on your insights on this wide range of topics. Love it! Consumer beware always. I went to a very high end spa by a very reputable aesthetician. Dermalogica was their main product line. I explained that my skin was very sensitive and was assured that their products were very gentle. Well, my face was burned before I even left the spa and got progressively worse. It was like my skin was scalded and the healing time was long. Wow! I was shocked and in pain. The aesthetician was mortified. I might be the only one who ever experienced this from Dermalogica. But it taught me to be hyper vigilant. Secondly, I also clench my teeth, as do my sister and my daughter. A specialist taught me an easy little habit for the hours I’m awake which has carried over to my asleep time. Simply check your face throughout the day and mindfully relax it, especially being aware during high stress times. In addition to the checking, place your tongue where it rests softly behind your front teeth. You can’t clench when your tongue is resting there! Magic! And such a simple habit to establish! Happy Friday and God bless! 😁

Linda Nunn ~ In physical therapy (for a different reason), I learned that a gentle stroking of the lower jaw, just below the ear, and in a perpendicular motion to the jawbone, can help relax the jaw and tension. Also incorporated were “clicking” exercises of the tongue to the upper palette. Hope this makes sense. I clench at night sometimes.
@Soc19686 жыл бұрын
Tammy Woods , thank you! I’ve had physical therapy too when I passed out , hit the concrete floor, and broke my orbital bone. My jaw was out of place from the fall and my therapist put his gloved finger inside my mouth and pushed on the muscles where your jaw is hinged. Immediate relief from the pain! I love physical therapists! Not sure why doctors don’t seem to know these things or at least refer you to a physical therapist for TMJ and clinching. He taught me about the tongue placement too. Now, thanks to you I have another tool!

You are definitely not the only person to be sensitive or allergic to dermalogica sensitive line. Ironically it's product contain lavender oil. A common ingredient for a reaction. My orthodontist when I got braces at age 15 taught me to place the tip of my tongue at the roof of my mouth, not certain why but it became a habit and I still do that. Somehow though oh, I still managed to clench and grind my teeth find some night despite that tongue placement. I was told that there was a device that you could buy at the drugstore to help with that or to prevent that so I guess I have to check with my dentist next time as he seems to forget to address the problem of grinding when the dental hygienist notices that is probably what I'm doing.

Indian women are into facials a lot. Most women who can afford it will get a facial done at least once a month. The products used in the parlors aren't available in markets to purchase to consumers. I wouldn't give any credit to those products though, personally. It's solely the fact that it's a relaxation and mental thing to get those done and feel great. (I never bought into it, mostly I can't hand my face to someone else and don't think that all the hygiene precautions are followed). It's also a social activity. I just use the jade roller.. once a month 😂

There will always be outliers who go against consensus recommendations. Using sunscreen, seeking shade and wearing protective clothing are all important behaviors to reduce your risk of skin cancer. Scientific evidence supports the benefits of using sunscreen to minimize short-term and long-term damage to the skin from the sun’s rays. Claims that sunscreen ingredients are toxic or a hazard to human health have not been proven. If you are concerned about certain sunscreen ingredients, you can select a formula that contains different active ingredients. As long as your sunscreen is broad-spectrum, water-resistant and has an SPF 30 or higher, it can effectively protect you from the sun. www.aad.org/media/stats/prevention-and-care/sunscreen-faqs www.bad.org.uk/for-the-public/skin-cancer/sunscreen-fact-sheet

Well I personally would rather wear sunscreen than end up with skin cancer. I know we need some sunlight to penatrate our bodies for vitamin D. But have you seen what skin cancer does to a victim ... Everything in moderation is key.. 5 minutes in the sun in the coolest time of the day without sunscreen is all I do.. I hope that's not too much..
@annahaener6 жыл бұрын
Dr Dray I am not sure about sunscreen. I have been using it for years. Basicaly now, cos my skin is so white if I go out just once without it - it‘ll burn badly even under very moderate sun. Plus, there are so many questions whether only vit D3 supplements are truly enough. Defficiency in vit D could lead to devastating results, from osteoporosis till different kind of cancers. I mean how high the risk of melanoma if one goes to the sun very moderately, like 20 min day and starts very slowly? I feel extremely weird, cos on one side I protect myself with sunscreen on the other side whatever It is I damage there with not getting enough sun. Let‘s say honestly it is not researched enough what do we miss if do not get enough sun...

Dr Dray can we do facial massage everyday??
@dianneazarraga39893 жыл бұрын
I follow Karinamore in IG. It worked wonders for me.
I have had a facial massage done very lightly where the person doing the massage just wiped their fingers on a towel to get rid of excess oils and I was fine with this but my facial skin did not like those oils so I wouldn't be surprised if those ladies in the study in India that you mentioned also reacted badly to them.

Hi Dr. Dray! thank you so much for all the effort you put on making these videos! one question, is it ok to use two different cleansers? for example, la roche posay 2%salicylic acid in the morning routine and at night the neutrogena ultra gentle hydrating cleanser? best regards from a fan in the Dominican Republic

Happy Friday. Why a massage isn't such a bad investment right? I do a facial quarterly for it's relaxing benefits and always advise I'm sensitive :) The last one I did was a hydrafacial and it was amazing.

Very interesting indeed. I'm a grinder and clencher 😂😮. I've damaged my teeth and it's also agony some days if I've been clenching my teeth overnight. Must try a little massage to see if that helps, thanks doc 😻

You'd be surprised-I have sensitive skin that looks red 24/7, and I went for a facial at a licensed esthetician who is HUGELY popular in both Boston and New York...we talked about skin type but she still did facial massage and extractions- its just so much at the core of how a lot of estheticians do their facials. Yikes!

Dr. Dray, I love all your videos and your very entertaining. How do you get rid of freckles? As a child we pretty much lived at the lake and I remember burning in the sun so bad my grandmother would put vinger and pet milk on us and our shoulders would blister. I guess that was before sunscreen was so affordable. I have large acne pore hole on the sides of my nose, chin, upper part of lip. Not to mention solistic cyst scars on my jawline what would you suggest doing about these I live in Louisville Kentucky I lived in Houston Texas in 1982 I am 54 years old I just started using Retin-A from a dermatologist but I really like your perspective on things could you please get back with me as so do appreciate your channel and everything you do for us and weeding out all the skincare lies that are out there

I am really enjoying Gold Bonds eczema line as it has ceramide and colloidal oatmeal.their website is reluctant to recommend their body products for the face, but I use it anyway. I hope that’s okay and maybe you can review it one day :)

I love the massage of my body as it is definitely relaxing. I am also grinding my teeth while sleeping and have jaw clinching, therefore, I sleep with the nightguard. I tried many different relaxing techniques, yoga etc, but it didn't resolve the problems with the jaws and teeth. I did have occasional facial massages in the past but each salon was using different creams and oils, they were applying the heat or steam to open the pores, some were kind of harsh with their hands so I stopped. My skin was already angry due to the usage of SciFi (marketing) promises and the redness after the facial massages and treatments made it even angrier. With the minimalist approach I started a few years ago, my skin is better than ever. I wish if I had Dr. Dray at that time to help me with her reviews:) My learning curve was long and expensive, but it is never too late:))

In reference to teeth grinding and clenching, you can ask your dentist to make a mouth guard that you will use at night while sleeping. I've recently gotten one and my dentist says the guard will train me to stop the clenching. My worst times are sleeping and when I'm driving in the car for a long time.

Hi! Your videos have completely changed my skincare routine. I appreciate and respect all you information. I live in SC and had a total hysterectomy in 2017 and my skin has gone crazy, I take Estrace daily, I'm not on the coast, I'm in foothills of western NC mountains and the weather can change on a dime, it effects my skin and my fibromyalgia tremendously. I'm using mineral oil, cerave foaming face wash and cedafille moisturizer.......I've had trouble finding a tinted sunblock, I want to nix foundation, I found physicians formula BB cream. Just started it today, what is your opinion on the physicians formula BB cream and what other tinted moisturizers would you recommend. Thank you

Very interesting subject, I started to go to a massage therapist and found it helpful when my lower back starts to act up.My husband and I started to schedule massages every 3 months, we have found that we feel better, our posture is better and it's just an overall feeling of wellness. The salon that I go to for my hair and facials always do a wonderful scalp massage and facial massage,I don't think it makes me look any different but it sure feels great! Almost the weekend, Happy Friday 🙂🍁

Dr Dray thanks for the wonderful video. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a lotion to use on the face for a daily self-face massage? usually oil is recommended but it's so messy, I think lotion would be just as runny but less messy. I'm using a super expensive one right now and I would really like to find a drugstore product. I was thinking of the vanicream lite lotion but would love a suggestion. Also I love the Lisa Eldridge face massage video. I highly recommend it and would love to know what face massages other people like.

Exuviance Dry/Sensitive cleanser can be used for slippage during facial massage, or I make my own with cucumber 🥒 oil, vitamin E and glycerin (omega 6, antioxidants and emollients) works great with lymphatic drainage facial massage and for hair mask..I'm acne prone/sensitive and it works great for me!!

Hi, i would love to hear your thoughts on cryotherapy/cold therapy and the skin anti aging and collagen benefits that are marketed. Thankyou!
@DrDrayzday6 жыл бұрын
In dermatology cryotherapy is a cytodestructive treatment used to destroy skin cancer cells and various skin growths. We dont use it for anti-aging or collagen benefits and when administered incorrectly can result in scarring
@silvio.r84436 жыл бұрын
@@DrDrayzdayThats interesting, thankyou. Although I was more refering to the full body cryotherapy chambers, and the proposed anti inflammatory effect they have on skin rather than targeted high strenghth cryo.

Thanks !!! I can’t have them because of rosacea ... I totally agree with the sleep. I’m all for moderate exercise and walking light jog but excruciating workouts causing lots of facial expressions can’t be good for aging??? Do you agree? Also do you like the Elta MD moisturizers ? I know you mention you use the sunscreen. Thanks as usual!
@TRWoods9146 жыл бұрын
jodi Aryal ~ I have Acne Rosacea, so I thought I could use Elta MD moisturizers because their physical sunscreens have not caused me irritation. Well, I was wrong. I tried the Elta MD AM Therapy moisturizer, and my skin and eyes burned. Had to wash it off within minutes. Luckily, I was able to return the product. This was just my experience; I wish I knew of the offending ingredient(s). You might be fine with it. Best of luck.
