I was born 1977 in Poland and learned in elementary school 1984-1992. When we played with collegues football during the breaks between the classes or after classes on squares and fields next to our school when somebody had very good dribble skills he was then called by the others Maradona. Maradona was for us top player, simply the best on football pitch. I was fan of him since 1986. Farewell Dieguito, rest in peace. I will never forget you.

Back then the pitches were terrible, tackling from behind was allowed, defenders were brutal, Italian defenders and defenses were the best they've ever been (Baresi, Maldini, Aldair, Scirea, Passarella, Bergomi, Cabrini, Brehme, Costacurta...), the game was nowhere near as open - especially in Italy, training and diet regimes are far more advanced/strict/professional now, and then we have the great advances in surgery where players today more or less make full recoveries. I would also add that while he did have some good players by his side (Ferrara, Carreca, Di Napoli, Cannigia, Passarrella) the teams he was in were not as strong from 1 to 11 as those that Messia and CR7 have had by their side.

Sami khan,who scored the 3 goals against germany,did maradona score or assisted them,in the same way if higuain or palacio scored there literally wouldn't even be a debate about who is the best player,messi has about 500 goals more than him and has about 25 trophies more than him,you cant judge players based only on their prime,you should judge players by what they did in their entire career

Messi has been nurtured by one club since he was 12, placed on a steroid program as a teen, and then at 16 entered the best club side in the world. Messi has been generally shocking for Argentina because the side is inferior and he cannot improve them, the same is now happening with Barca once everything is not 110% perfect he looks normal. Maradona rose above team issues, personal issues, and defenders trying to break his legs, to win at every level that's why he is the GOAT. Go to Argentina and talk to people nearly every man, woman and child adores Diego mention Messi and they shrug their shoulders.
