Facing Hardships As A Young Man & The Brutal Truth Of People

Everyone is responsible for their own problems and challenges in life. Might have heard that somewhere, but it is rarely implemented by a lot of people. Reality is often too much for us human beings. Many wonder why when hardships struck your life, everyone around you just slowly disappears, even if you reach out for their help, most simply won't give you a time of the day.
Why do people distance themselves away form you when you are struggling in life? Why do they avoid you and make themselves unavailable for you? And as much as I hate to say it, even your best friends can distance themselves from you. Humans are meant to help one another right? So why do they leave you for dead when you need them the most?

People say, “Go to college, have fun, get laid, blah, blah, blah” but you know what, I only go to college so that one day I’ll have a job that I can survive on. I also barely have any friends, never had a girlfriend and it’s my third year. Not everything in life is straightforward, but I’m not giving up on my goals. Only cowards do that and I’m not one. I wish you all the best in life and don’t let anyone tell you there’s a magic potion to wash all your worries away. There isn’t.

You should add the saying that, "you can't save someone who doesn't want to save themselves" when dealing with someone who is struggling. Brother-in-law's girlfriend almost destroyed my life when we were trying to help them get back on their feet and the rest of my in-laws want to act like it never happened. I know I need to work on trusting but struggling people do have a way of dragging everyone else down with them.

Depends on whether those who struggle actually tried their best to get out of the situation they are in, or they just play victim and hope that sympathy from other people would get him out of there

Experienced a very similar scenario. Got mental health problems and lost 90% of friends. Now I am getting better and better but that is still something I have to digest, for if I am going to be 100% okay and able to "attract" more friends into my life, I am going to know that 90% of them are fair weather friends. But that is just how it is :D

From the title alone I grew up in a hostile family who treated me as a prisoner and beat me as a lesser punishment and forced to burn my hand on a stove was mentally tortured as well and yet whenever people saw this happen in front of them as I asked for help they turned their backs on me and pretended not to see the torture I was getting subjected to

I agree 100% with the premise put forward at 8:29 - (paraphrased) "Your [failures] are the building blocks of your future success. " One insufficiently-amplified aspect of failure is that it equips you with an intimate knowledge of the terrain - far deeper than what those who didn't had the good fortune of failure could never acquire.

I don't have a hard story on that. I've just noticed that when I was depressed and tried talking about my feelings with people, people started being less friendly with me - especially my siblings. When I started shutting up about my own problems, people gradually stopped getting annoyed looks on their faces when I walked into the room. In general, people don't want you to be a burden. I've got to say that I'm still struggling to accept this. I've stopped talking with most of the people that I know, and I spend most of my time either reading fiction or writing my books. I don't really make time for people anymore, and I've started turning down invitations to hang out. All in all, I'm sure that what I'm doing is unhealthy, but another part of me doesn't want to waste the time and thoughts it would take to even have these people in these lives when they don't even want to take the mental effort to offer comfort.

When I accepted the maxim of "The Majority Just Don't Care", it both hurt me, and freed me. Hurt me because well, no one wants to feel abandoned, but freed me in the sense that I couldn't count count on them. It made me reevaluate every situation in a way that opened new avenues to me, but most importantly, I gained better discernment for the people I surround myself with, this being to gauge actions most of all. Look for unprompted outward actions that seem to serve little or no purpose ie calling to check on you just because they haven't seen you in a little while. Again, if we are to approach from the afore mentioned "Many People Just Don't Care" angle, small actions like these give you a glimpse of people's character and a higher chance that someone would help you, or could network you to some help, in your time of need. Second, I gained this drive to channel all the hurt and bitterness into never becoming like them, to be that person who tries to help, never offering tone deaf advice like "Just get a girlfriend" , but trying to engage and listen. As you said in the video, sometimes you just reached out to hear something, maybe a "Yeah I know how you feel, let's get a coffee soon and decompress"

"They do not care". That is very true. I know all too well regarding the reality that "they do not care. I have defined that life is war and life is fought(and won) on the battlefield. I figure if throughout life we will go through war-like events situations and scenarios that have to ability to destroy a life, then life is war. Regarding the carelessness of people, i think this is fitting for the times we are living in and that we are close to the end of something. Its as if a man has to get to a certain space within him, like a david goggins of space where nothing can break you. its almost as if you have to figuratively speaking, rip your heart out or guard it, so much that the actions or inactions of people can not "hurt you" cos you have built yourself into something that is designed to fight life alone. its as if you can not put unrealistic expectations on people where you cant expect them to help you.

As a man who chose to take care of my mother and her evil sister (evil due to inaction, think WW2 Germany and the people who CHOSE not to act resulting in genocide. Inaction can also be evil.) Like many men I'm here helping and suffering because women may have forgotten Honor and Virtue but most of us men still haven't. The notion that college engenders upward mobility is also false. It really depends on what kind of degree you're able to earn there. If you're going to there for something hard (STEM) or technical, it's worth it. But if you go there for something that's common i.e. a humanities type degree, you will struggle to find gainful employment after graduating. Very few do, but most end up working jobs that not only pay poorly, but didn't even require a college degree. College isn't for everyone.
