ps: Vehicle mold: Consider getting "drying agent", moisture absorber. Comes in little tubs/buckets; takes the water content/moisture out of the air inside vehicle....helping to reduce Mold. Product used for RVs, boats, campers, etc. Anything stored outside NEEDS it. I have a fixer car stored outside- and use (2)- one in the trunk, the other up front/passenger side. NO probs.

It's nice to see how modern all the shopping places look there, we in the U.S. often vision the 'old' country just as that and in reality the U.S. is the one falling behind.

It makes me upset, how backwards our history is and how backwards our ideas are in the US. How a small group of people are ruining the country.

@@debdeb62065 If you spend much time in a foreign country, you may find how "backwards" the history is of other nations. It's easy to romanticize other countries until you've actually lived somewhere else for several years. I say this as someone who has lived overseas for a long time. There are pros and cons to every place you go. Also, the early history of the US was quite progressive for its time compared to many nations...as was the constitution. People immigrated to the US en masse for a reason.

I agree. You owe no one an explanation, dear Brittany. You do you. Glad y'all didn't get the truck with the weird holes and the rust. Y'all have already dealt with so much red tape regarding citizenship, purchasing property, etc. Must be mentally tiring having to deal with the intricacies of buying a used vehicle. Baby steps. Hope you aren't being rushed.

We are doing the exact same thing, but in Chile. If it’s not too late, take a look at a Dodge Ram 1500, a real workhorse. It is an amazing thing to “find home” in another country. Our love has grown so much deeper since we embarked on this adventure. In May, we will be headed about 15 hours further south to the wilds of Patagonia to create our sustainable community vision. 💕 it’s so cool to see others doing the same.

Some advice (maybe unwanted). My wife and I live in southern Spain and have built and renovated nearly 50 rural houses . Start off by visiting your local building supplies preferably run by locals too and ask them who they would recommend for small builds (someone who pays their bills, reliable etc) You are capable and local help is invaluable (NOT FOREIGNERS). You can work together and learn the language at the same time . He will know all local building ways. Treat him/her like gold dust and you will have somebody to rely on . Good luck.

Hi guys. Very exciting! Being a European I have a few remarks: 1) almost all houses in Europe are built with bricks and concrete 2) why do you want to buy a truck? I guess it’s the American way but the fuel prices will ruin you here, also it is harder to drive and park in Europe where everything is much smaller, especially the roads. Why not try a combi/ station wagon? They’re very popular here and much more convenient. Also I would look for one with a towing device so that you have the possibility to add a trailer in the future. 3) Do you know The Newbys? You should check them out. They are youtubers who also moved from a van to a farm in Portugal about a year ago and are renovating it. Wishing you all the luck with your new home and I can’t wait to see your progress 😊

We moved from northern Nevada where we lived for most of our adult lives. High desert, no humidity. Now, we live on the coast of Oregon across the street from the Pacific. Wow! Between the salt making everything rusty, the rims on the cars corrode quickly, and the dampness making things mold, it's a huge shift for us. We love it anyway. We use those little buckets of a product that help with mold in closets and leave the doors on them ajar a little. We have a walk out basement and the previous owner put a humidity machine in it. Looking forward to your new videos about your property. As an American of Portuguese descent, I love seeing the country where my grandparents lived. Kathleen

Hi Portuguese person here 🙋🏽‍♀️ for wood try the local lumberyard first 😊 it might be better quality than that. I bought that pine once and it was not great. Plus the local place might sell wood chips for your veggie patch too. Regarding the car…. First time I heard that one, never heard of these deposits. Don’t do that! Good luck 🤞 🍀

THANK YOU.....for the adventures, INSPIRATION: I'm 67- longtime self-employed, and have been "researching" where to "retire" to for more than 20 years, via KZbin. Long story short, of the handful of places considered- Portugal was near the top. Maybe it's my 42 years in Seattle, 5 years in Oregon, 5 years in UK, 2 years in Germany....But I NEED a different climate!!! A different culture. And I find Portugal ticks off most of my check boxes, wish list. Actually the only thing that concerns me is....Portuguese! My niece lived in Brazil for 2yr., had to learn it for her job- and conveyed the difficulty of it. EXCITED to continue watching your adventures unfold....treat it like that, potential challenges- and make it a game. To WIN.

When I was shopping for my first car I had trouble driving a Manual Transmission too! But I knew I wanted one, and definitely that I wanted to learn how to drive one. So after about a half dozen "test drives" it finally clicked how to engage/disengage that tricky left pedal (clutch). Not that easy to do these days, but still worth the effort to learn to try, just burn in the dealers clutch instead of the one you wind up buying 😎

To buy used cars in Portugal, the best thing is always at dealerships, but you have to be careful because, like everywhere, there are crooks, so you have to be very careful and preferably take a mechanic friend, which in your case will be something complicated but not impossible. Warranties usually only cover engine and gearbox. Automatic transmission cars in Europe exist but in very small numbers than in the United States, so you will have to be very patient when looking for them. Legal issues it is always better to consult your lawyer or the ACP - Automóvel Clube de Portugal.

Regarding imported cars, in your case as there is still a certain linguistic barrier and also knowledge of the market, it is best to avoid them so as not to have unpleasant surprises and have to invest again in another solution... Ahhh and I almost forgot - reference sites for car research - standvirtual and Pisca Pisca . There is also what we can call a car hypermarket - Matrizauto .. Finally, the already long comment, Pickup vans with a good reputation in Europe (reliability/price/maintenance) are the Japanese Toyota Hylux, Nissan Navarra, Mitsubishi L200 .🙏💪

Daunting? For sure! Frustrating? Of course! Filled with promise? Absolutely! Seizing life and filling it up comes with a cost - and you have what it takes, the two of you.

Nothing wrong with driving automatic vehicles. Drive and enjoy. We traded in our manuals for automatic, much better.

Hi, enjoying the vlog, when you showed the underside of the Nissan pick-up I was shocked, you don't get rust like that on any youngish vehicle here in Portugal, but then when you said it is a German import that made sense, it's a lot wetter there. Be careful with imported vehicles especially German ones.

I don't know why you are getting a hard time about an automatic. I bought a 6 speed jeep and it's a pain in the butt on the trails. Lol I'd feel better with you in an automatic. You have so many overwhelming adjustments to make. You don't need that stress. Lol enjoy your new vehicle!

I was surprised to see the truck you were looking at was, what I owned here in VA, a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab (mine was an LE 4x4 Crew with all of the goodies). The entire time of you looking at it, I was like, NO! Not that one! A hole in the cab? What? Missing parts? What? (forget what year you said if you said it?) High miles and more importantly from Germany with the four letter dreaded word, "RUST"! My ownership of four years with mine were problem free (but I bought it new), but that one looked very shady. I was so relieved when you didn't......buy it! Whewwww! Keep looking until you get the right one, low miles, no rust on the frame/undercarriage and for the right price. Unfortunately, trucks are high but they're not selling (here in the US) like they used to and deals are to be had. Hopefully, there, it's not too different. With all of that said, I'm hoping you'll find some pillow cases faster! LOL Very excited for you guys and so looking forward to this new adventure with you.

A few points. Firstly its automatic transmissions that are the more expensive to repair when something goes wrong. Replacing the clutch on a manual costs a few hundred euros vs €5000+ on an auto (this is why 3rd world countries always prefer manual cars). In addition, do NOT buy a vehicle that was exposed to salt. That truck would have caused you so many issues. Lastly beware just because it has warranty from a used car dealership, this does NOT mean they will honor it. What happens is they find an excuse to get out of it and not cover it. This is very common so do not trust the warranty unless you buy it from a dealership like Honda.
