I am Portuguese with a family that has been established for a few years and I have had the opportunity to visit many other countries as a tourist; It is a fact that all places have their pros and cons of origin, but also in relation to what we are really looking for for ourselves and our family, in the present and in the future. In my opinion, even taking into account that I LOVE LIVING IN PORTUGAL and that even today I continue to be surprised by the wonder of this country and the kindness and generosity of my people; I believe that your CHOICE must take into account the ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT for a young couple who are thinking of building a family.... which is the PHYSICAL, ECONOMIC and SOCIAL SECURITY that the place you choose will provide you in the present and future. , for you and your children... everything else will be BONUS :)

I am Portuguese and I live in the US. I married a Police Officer 7 years ago. My husband retired and we went to Portugal for a visit....lol. My husband felt so safe in Portugal and after the first week of being there, he said to me. I want to live here. Lets move ASAP. We just bought a house in the Alentejo and we are moving next year.

We spent over two years looking for a vacation home in Mexico - summers in Canada, winters in Mexico was our original goal. For us it was just one obstacle after another and well it never happened. So we then thought...what about Portugal? Within ten days of arriving we bought our first home. Now one year later we bought our second home (for our guest house) and we absolutely LOVE it here. I just went for my immigration hearing and heads up ...make sure you have an up to date marriage certificate that is less than six months old because they will ask for one. Plus the number one suggestion for dealing with all the paperwork - hire a professional lawyer. They are very reasonably priced and definitely worth the money. Also, make sure you get private health insurance as well. God forbid you need it, only I ran into a medical emergency and all local doctors told us to avoid the public hospital and choose a private one instead. We chose CUF and I can highly recommend their service and care. Aside from the surgery it was like staying in a five star spa. Good luck in your search for a place to call home. and remember - Right Place at the Right Time.

Just a heads up, if you have a serious emergency , like a car accident or something of the sort, the private hospital will send you to the public hospital anyways. It's a great idea to have private health insurance but do get the NHS number also, specially if you have kids since it is free healthcare for children, don't fall for the doctor's talk about not going to public hospitals because most doctors will work in both sectors.

Hello again! Portugal is an excellent choice. This September will be three years that we have been here. You are correct that moving abroad will bring a sense of adventure for your family. The D7 sounds more detailed than it is, which I'm sure you know. Having made this move, here's my unsolicited words of wisdom . 1. Don't ship anything, waste of money, you can purchase anything you need here. 2. Book your trip over in the Queen Mary 2, you can take as much luggage as long as it will fit into your cabin. Plus no long line to board you show up show your passport go through security and boom you're in your cabin. They also have a fantastic kennel if you bring a pet. We rented a car and disembarked in Germany and drove from Germany to Portugal. 3. Van life, we purchased a Peugeot boxer and have refitted it and are now traveling throughout Portugal it was extremely easy. The thing my husband complained about the most was he purchased an inexpensive screw gun so don't make that mistake! Ha, we purchased items from LeRoy Merlin and Maxmat. There's a Costco in Spain and France. Trust me you'll find everything you need here. 4. I recently visited the United States and I have to be very honest and tell you that the things that I thought I missed I didn't miss at all I miss people but as far as food and things all of those things have been replaced by things all Portuguese. I could not wait to get back to Portugal not only because I feel that this is my home now but also for my gut I have no idea what's going on with the food being served in the United States but I had a stomach ache every single time I ate. 5. You will notice that it will take a while for you to be overcome your US paranoia, I used to be frightened if I was walking late at night and someone was behind me I no longer feel like this I feel safe to swim on my own at night. I would happily walk down a back alley in Portugal without fear. 5. The health system is absolutely wonderful I recently had to visit the hospital due to a leg injury I was informed to go directly to the ER not to wait in a reception line because I was in pain my total wait time was 2 hours which included 30 minutes with the doctor, triage, and check out. I received two injections and five prescriptions for pain my total cost was 40 euros for the hospital visit and $18 for my prescriptions I will not receive a bill this was my total! 6. Don't get too caught up in purchasing a piece of land immediately take your time rent a place get a vehicle and travel. That's what we did and it's working out quite well for us I will say that my husband sometimes speaks of having a little piece of land but if we had a piece of land it would only be big enough to build a nice porch with an attached bathroom so we could just drive the van right up to the porch and live there for a few months! We have a page it's called Que Aventura, if you'd like to check it out, I've posted quite a bit about the places we have visited and lived Portugal. One of the greatest things about living here is that you get to meet people from all over the world plus you can travel to so many different countries. We recently met a Turkish man married to a Norwegian woman who actually invited us to travel with them to Norway for the summer but we had different plans this year. Best of everything to you two! We will have to get together for dinner at some point!

Thank you for all the detail. I am a single 66YO woman on Social Security with a little bit of savings, and I am at a turning point in my life, My heart keeps pulling me over the pond. Portugal was one of the places I wanted to check out.I had thought about shipping a van/truck over but now I think that may not be worthy. So not sure where to start, Are there any people that help people find a lil apt in Portugal? I had found one website, but it seemed more like a resort rental rather than long term. Will keep watching these videos for ideas.
@MJMCJ20025 ай бұрын
@AndNowIWrite, in point 5., please don't be so sure you are safe walking down a black alley in Portugal. That depends on the place you are. Big cities (Porto, Lisbon) are more populated, so more dangerous at night. Just a word of advice, never walk alone at night in big cities.

You did an excellent job explaining things between the two places. I always thought Portugal was where you would end up. Yes, you have to wait longer, but it will be worth it in the end. Baja is a nice place to visit, Portugal and the Algarve is a nice place to live. There are also KZbin creators there that you can get together with and have some fun times. Enjoy the journey! Thanks for sharing and Blessings to you, Britt & Drew!

Yes, we connected with some lovely souls in PT last year. Can’t wait to reconnect in the future. ❤️

I’ve only been in the airport in Portugal, but I’ve spent a lot of time (& money) in Baja and I’m happy to hear of your decision. Separate subject - I have USA & UK citizenship and I just think it’s cool!

Bom dia, great choise, I am a portuguese Canadian who has lived here going on 28 years. Am married for 25 years, have 2 daughters. I would not trade Portugal for nothing. We may not earn as much but we got sun, sand, ocean, food and some great monuments. Plus if you want to go whale watching just take aflight to the Açores, another great place to visit. All I can say is welcome to our small but big hearted country.

highly recommend residency in mexico if you are going to be in Baja, it is not hard but its the best way to go.

Buying in bulk is not necessary in Portugal. If you look at the per unit price (also understanding the VAT or IVA is already included in the price not tacked on at the register) it is the same price per unit in small packs in Portugal and the per unit price buying in bulk at Costco. Also, the fruit and vegetables in Portugal are actually organic. No need to put a fake Organic on the package like here.

That’s explains the pricing better. And for organic it’s so nice to get the real deal. 😋

Portugal has Lidl and Continente. Walmart is in Lisbon. You can get anything you need in bigger cities.

Guys I think you know your answers already. Your intuition. From baja I'm getting a very much darker, lower energy, vibe, and you guys are magical people. It's a total Portugal for you. It hink you know it already. ✨🙏🙂 Listen to your heart. You can always have a holiday in baja or Portugal too, but where do you see your dream life happening? 🙂🙏🏡

Hmm. Now that’s a fun idea. We need the stability to handle that kind of thing. TO be continued 😊

You made an excellent choice! You will be safer there, especially if you are considering a family.

Don't forget you can actually drink the water in Portugal. Also, living in the Algarve region of Portugal, we occasionally drive over to Seville Spain to visit the Costco there. 😎

So inspirational your story. Myself, I’ve purchased an ancient townhouse in a beautiful, baroque town in Salento, Puglia. Renovations start very soon and all done remotely. So many opportunities these days. Great decision you’ve made! 😊💫

So cool! We have always wanted to drive all the way down the boot of Italy. Maybe we will have to pay you a visit someday and scope out your project. 🚐😊

@@Mrandmrsadventure Would be great. Perhaps I could even offer a complimentary stay and if you like it you could offer a shout out. That part aside, there are loads of beautiful places and layer upon layer of history unique to the region. Have a great week!

it's always good seeing you both. I have to agree with living in Europe with the diversity of the continent and how that will enrich your lives. However, above all is safety and well=being which you will get in Portugal. Imagine! You got me thinking again on my thirst for moving to Europe. I get the itch at least once a year and look at homes and property. Go for Portugal.

I think you made the right choice. And this means you're much nearer to France and I might come and say hello if I come to Portugal 😀. We had plans before covid
