I had a 372 with a 51.4mm on the bench yesterday. Turned out to be a complete basket case. They made some 375xp's back in the day but you're correct this was the K375 cut-off saw cylinder.

Nice job, that surr soumds good. Sold my modded 51.4 cylinder 372 when I started the barn build, haven't missed it at all. A 268 pop-up in a standard 50mm bore runs just as strong or stronger and it's much easier to start. Surprised you haven't done one yet, let me know and ill send you a couple of piston and a couple saws for comparison 😃.

Just cut a 1mm pop-up on a 268 piston and clean up the ports on a 50mm cylinder and it will outrun the 51.4 all day long, and you'll love how easy it is to pull over.

@@Houseworksaws That's awesome, the last one I did was on a 2171. I robbed the ported cylinder off it to put on a 372xpg, unfortunately I sold that one a couple falls ago, but the money went into building my new pole barn, so that's cool.

I have a red 2071 that is stock and a nice, and a 2260 and both are my goto saws that always rip, every year, if you got to get er done. I love that 2066 with the ported big bore. I've only had 1 372, but it was modified. The guy that did it had passed on so I didn't get the full story on what he did. They thing loved the 10k area and cut like an animal! I bet the big bore torque makes a huge difference. Good work on that one! Runs great. I would like to see test cuts!

That is a nice looking Jonsered. It would be nice if Husqvarna would start selling the 51.4 mm cylinder kits and piston kits again. The demand for a 372 big bore is alot greater now than when the 375 was produced, they would be a good seller once the word got out and if the price point was good for those wanting a better option over aftermarket big bore cylinders. As it stands they are very hard to find now and $$$$. I still think the OE 372 50mm or 51.4mm cylinder kit is the best mod one can make to a 372xp x-torque.

A dyno comparison of 372 OE, 372 x-torque, and 390 between OEM carburetors on a ported OEM 372xp 50mm cylinder would be interesting.

I'm doing the 372xt carb and 390 boot upgrade on my g372 for more flow. Then I'm going to try to send it your way and see what kind of HP it's putting down. I've never tried an 8 pin on my 372 I'm going to eventually. With the rpm in the cut holding around 12.5k now it doesn't seem to need it.
@Houseworksaws
@Houseworksaws Жыл бұрын
Instead of an XT carb (RWJ4) find a 385/390 carb Walbro WJ-116 or Tillotson 296a they are better performers and hold a tune better. The RWJ4 has a divider in it for the XT and makes the Venturi have a weak signal.
@chrismuncey3861
@chrismuncey3861 Жыл бұрын
@Houseworksaws The 372xt carb has a 19.05mm venturi. 385 390 is 17.5mm. This 372 Is heavily ported and mechined. 227psi compression 15k free spinning and holding 12 to 12.5k in the cut. I believe I've reached the limit of what the stock carb and intake boot can flow.
@Houseworksaws
@Houseworksaws Жыл бұрын
@@chrismuncey3861 Larger overall Venturi in the RWJ4 but it’s got divider in it. One side has the nozzle and is the Venturi and the other half is just for fresh air. As what’s required when that carb is in the strato saw it was designed for. When that carb is used in a non strato saw it has a weak signal and doesn’t perform very well. The Venturi may be smaller on the 390xp carb but far out performs the rwj4. Study the RWJ and you’ll see only half of the 19.05mm is a true Venturi.
@chrismuncey3861
@chrismuncey3861 Жыл бұрын
@Houseworksaws Interesting I wonder if the divider can be mechined out?. I'm just trying to get more air flow on this bad boy without doing a custom intake carb
@Houseworksaws
@Houseworksaws Жыл бұрын
@@chrismuncey3861 The divider is plastic and can easily be popped out by breaking it and then taking it out in a couple pieces. You could always have a 385/390 carb bored a 1 or 2mm. The 395xp carb (Tillotson 298a) also fits into a 372xp without a ton of work. Sometimes it’s not about Venturi size and the proof is in the fact these carbs are able to feed 90+cc saws whether stock or ported. It’s more of how the carb is designed. There’s a lot of technology that goes into Venturi shape and design also into the fuel circuits in said carbs. There are many great options for a 372. I have the 395 carb on my machined and ported Jonsered 2165 (Husq 365sp). It works very well. Anyways have a look around I bet you can find one used for a fair price and I believe new they’re 98$

I’m familiar with the cutting the squish band and running a 268 so you don’t need to cut the base of your actually gaining on your exhaust duration side if you don’t raise the exhaust roof but if you did do you squish band on the 51.4 and then trim the base it’s just that much stronger…. ?

@@bulkleyoutdoors Gilardoni has made cylinders for stihl and husky for many yrs, in the past they were the more desirable cylinders to have. The 440 cylinders they made were nice looking stock(as far as stock goes lol). I have one on my modded 242xp, nice runner with the squish set, the ports matched and cleaned up, and the muffler modded, it screams along at 15k-16 with no problem depending on the tune, then again, I think it's 15.5 from the factory :).

Joe I have a 2166, and wanted to get a o.e.m. 51.4 but they are impossible to find, so I am leaning towards the highway titanikel 52mm , however I have seen a lot of videos where porters stay shy away from them due to the cylinder plating flaking off when porting? Your thoughts would be much appreciated

I've personally never run a 3/8 8pin on anything but my 592xp I'm running a 24" bar and it'll bounce rev limiter W/O a 8.. was considering a .325 8pin on the 550mk2 you worked up for me as that saw has some *RIP* and I might go 9pin on the 592 once you do your thing with it. Don't think it's worth the torque loss to go 8 on the 572 running 24" on it though I may try it someday

After finally getting a 2165 and for some reason every thinking I’d be really even interested in carrying what is basically the 372 chassis’s in a 48mm popup version…. It’s going to get my last new 51.4 topend… so it will be better power for the weight… I’ve got one that I’ve been thinking about having relining done but I’ve been watching two stroke stuffings for a few years and I saw his nikasil plate in his shop… it’s basically just like the electroplating process where you silver soldier your copper jewelry parts together then you use your sacrificial anode to electroplate your piece…. I’ve got to get a little better understanding of that exact process that TSSuffing used to electroplate his cylinder to see if it couldn’t repair a scratch or scrap…???
