The automatons for me. I think the detonation dmg is pretty overpowered. Especially when they are 2 hex units. And that there's a specialist that come with these tier 4's

In my opinion it's totally okay to have some units without special abilities, but those units can be used as cannon fodders, retal baiters, or shooter guards.

Oooh, the Halfling Adobe looking like the Heroes 2 Adobe gets a nice nod in the campaign story text. In the second scenario, Halfling refugees take up residence in abandoned Ogre dwellings.

Honestly, I was a "factory hater" based on the beta screenshots and concept art they released earlier-- I didn't really think it fit the style of the game and I wasn't sure if the faction's twin t7 units would fit the game mechanically either. But I actually really like how it turned out. The final version of the new town looks great, the split town upgrade path is interesting and I really like how unique the new units are. Although if halflings are really as strong as they seem I have a feeling they might be in the crosshairs of a balance patch sometime soon, even if they do fall off in the midgame.

Yeah, aesthetically speaking, I really like how the lore of factory is that they are outcasts from tower. Almost like they decided to end up in the wastelands in spite of their cold dwelling kin. I'm on board!

Not sure if you've played any of the campaign for this yet, but if I recall correctly you learn in the campaign level 2 that the first adobes the halflings live in are actually abandoned ogre houses. Another throwback to the homm 2 ogre adobes. The lore with factory is awesome IMO. :)

One thing I think you forgot to mention is that Olgoj Xorxoj will devour a corpse without wasting the turn if the hex they move to in order to attack an enemy has a corpse on it, giving you the effect of the corpse before the attack begins

A VERY MINOR thing that bummed me a bit out, is that I had hoped we would see a return (or a "preturn") of some of the Halfling heroes that are in Heroes IV, the only other game where you have halfling Heroes, iirc.

I like the idea of balancing first aid tents by buffing them, rather than nerfing anything else. Game balance is hard but nerfs are pretty universally unliked.

I understood the rationale behind the town portal/etc spell research change but I agree with you that this feels a little weird. Changes the dynamic a lot considering a town that finally gets these spells is worth so much more (all the resources going into research to get them). And maybe this helps scholar not being as bad?

Speaking of boars.. (3:34) i would love a mod that includes boars as optional upgrade for orcs or wolf raiders, e.g. you could choose to build either upgraded wolf pen or a boar pen (called boar glen on adventure map). Since boar riders are technically orcs who suck at throwing axes, it could be a skeleton transformer type of building that lets you pay to upgrade orcs into boars. There should also be a creature bank for boars, i think.

The first thoughts are that Factory is UP.

It is not, trust me. To Factory to be really competitive, your army should count with the two 7 level creatures, which is difficult to achieve in S-M maps or bigger if your opponents are threatening you. Which is interesting though is that you can make the best strategy around several units depending on the situation. For me, it has been a lot of fun to try it. In addition, most of the units have a handicap so to speak. Juggernauts are slow, Couatls need more health and they do not hit very hard, bounty hunters really need a health boost and the Halfing grenadiers are extremely vulnerable again sieges. More than any other level 1 unit I've seen.

I'm curious what the OG creators of Heroes III think of all this. 1) people are still playing this version (because it's the most awesome version) and 2) fans managed to reverse engineer the game to add all this high-quality content. Gunslingers practically have ranged retaliation and their upgrades have unlimited ranged retaliation. Since you can't use ranged in melee, this retaliation is nullified with a melee creature. This comes from succubi from heroes 5, but they always had it unlimited, punishing attacking them from a distance. Their upgrades might have had no melee penalty, but i might be remembering wrong from the top of my mind. I love ranged retaliation, chipping away at hostile rangers. It makes the unit a risk to shoot at, causing a deterrent effect on human opponents that could also be simulated in battle ai.

While I appreciate the randomness of Homm 3, I am happy that overpowered, or should I say just extremly convenient, mechanics seem to be addressed, like the town portal. That's why in my opinion Homm 5 did a better job at how town portal, dimension door or a newly added spell of summoning castle units straight into hero's army at 1 mana cost per creature work. However I would appreciate an option to just prevent dimension door, fly, waterwalk from ever appearing anywhere on a random map, including artifacts that grant said abilities.

Not sure I can agree with the decision on Luna. Sure it was kinda crazy, but at least it encouraged you to cast an unorthodox spell. When was the last time you cast Frost Ring or Land Mine forexample? I think we should follow that pattern. Maybe not 100% though, but 50%? 25% to fire wall barely seems worth it, and you wont notice Valentina's landmine specialty really because it's too insignificant a number in bonus. We got so many spells, but you basically never cast like 70% of spells in the game

These units have similar skills as in Heroes 6-7 many units 8-12 years has! In 7.5 mod there are 12 factions soon 13 with Conflux and not a suprise now for me the Factory. Its more similar to Forge than Xel in 7.5 mod.

Do you think they did the math with the bank building? Would make sense that you would have to pay interest for your loan. 20 % interest would make the payment 3000, and I think it sounds about right for this purpose. Would still be pretty nice to have that 2500 g at hand.

1* Although all the units in Forge town have interesting abilities, they are mostly useless. They need re--work. 2* When compared against other level 3 units like griffins, it is obvious armadillos should be re-worked (gold cost or hp etc..). 3* Gunslingers are fun but 45 hp on lvl6 unit ... 4* I was expecting kind of dwarven treasury upgrade when i saw the bank.. bank needs re-work too... otherwise just cosmetic. Ex: +1% gold/day or 5-10%/week but x2 on loans. 5* mana generator. no worth it. needs re-work. maybe +1 mana/day to all heroes, similar to mysticm but nerfed... +2 would be more balanced. +5 is op. 6* most of the immunity tactics or juggernaut combo are useless (excluding tournament rules). only Armageddon makes sense 7* too much balancing has been made to the game... i like to broken version against AI especially in TBS game.

One thing that bothers me is the fact that Pirates and Factory both have gunpowder while "the main kingdom of the land" still uses swords and crossbows. And before anyone starts with M&M series explaining it's all a Sci-fi... no, I just don't buy into it XD For me Homm series is a fantasy setting and I treat Homm and M&M as e.g. GTA San Andreas and GTA V, same places, different universes. But I do respect the other opinion.

But I think it makes sense - the Cove and Factory are both towns of outcasts, criminals and innovators, who do not shy from new ideas and technologies. The Rampart elves would dismiss these "unnatural" machines and weapons, the Castle knights and society would be too hidebound to accept these new fangled ways. The Fortress and Stronghold would be too proud of their ways (and limited in resources) to accept the changes brought by these new peoples. And the Necroolis, Dungeon, Inferno, and Conflux practically don't need any new changes.
