Sorry to hear about the sander. Would have expected maybe a different video released on Easter through. Happy Easter buddy.

Yeah, when I filmed this and posted, I hadn’t even thought about Easter. My mind was elsewhere with this and many things going on. It was until this afternoon I’d thought about it

Damn. Not good news. Sad to see quality is so lacking in such an expensive piece of equipment.

I had a very similar experience, broke the drive pin after only a few months. Jet could not get me a new motor for several months so I had a local machine shop make a new pin for me. Same pin is still working two+ years later----but I cannot ever get the drive belt to run straight. The belt adjustment mechanism is terrible. It is currently disassembled on the workbench--again. I have spent a lot of time keeping this machine running. I do not like my Jet 1020 sander. Thanks for sharing your story, nice to know I am not alone!

The small drive motors on those belt sanders stall at slow speeds when sitting unused for weeks. You have to turn on the speed control and let it run for a couple minutes at full speed (fast) without running any wood through it. After running for a few minutes at full speed drop the speed to half and run for a minute. After that it should work normally. Also don’t run those short boards through it. Keep the workpiece to at least 8” long. And don’t try and sand too much on each pass. You’re gonna have problems trying to sand out warped or cupped boards. Only sand flat boards. Use a planer or a hand plane to take out cupping. Another thing is your dust collection is wholly inadequate! You can’t go from a 4 or 5 inch port down to a 2 1/2” port especially with a drum sander. Your bearings are probably jammed with dust preventing free motion.

When you had this machine standing un used for a year did you un tension the feed belt as if its stood for a long time under tension , the rubber would become supple in this case , and cause slipping i have the same machine. And had no problems sorry your having troubles , all my sanders and band saws i do this too if left standing for ages hope this helps

Thanks for that. Never gave it a thought. It has been slack for a couple months at least right now. Maybe I’ll give it a bit more time and try it again.

Mine has been perfect out of the box. One of the most used tools in my shop. Of course the feed belt wanders a bit, just as it does on a belt sander. A quick simple adjustment and it's back where it should be. Just a great machine.

I wonder if it is having issues because you are using a 2 inch hose on a 4inch spot. Maybe the dust got in the gears
@CKKnifeandTool

Might be but it does seem to have good suction. I don’t have a lot of dust blowing around. A little at the out feed as the board comes out. Some mentioned that it’s the size of the wood which is sad that would be an issue. Others mention taking too much off but it seems to happen randomly. Sure, if I barely have it touch the wood it feeds but doesn’t that just defeat the idea of having a drum sander? I don’t know. I’ll keep it and use sparingly. Stick to the planer

so whats wrong with it?..did you try to trouble shoot to see what it is doing?..like is the feed motor spinning fine or is it bogging down and does not have enough torque?

I love to support wood workers. I am a woodworker and we are a dying breed. 2 things for you. 1. SLOW down the belt or take tension off the belt and do a lighter pass. I have used these sanders for hundreds of hours. The hardest part was getting a decent replacement belt for under $200. Tune the belt, lets it run for a few min and get real dust collection. They Throw a ton of dust. 2. Get a better mic. It's hard to listen to the wisdom you are sharing with all the swallowing noises. Your channel will do so much better. Hang in there. These sanders are fantastic for making decorative boxes and end grain cutting boards. Just need to practice with it like any other tool. Good luck!

Just finished watching 731 Woodworks review (posted Aug 18) of this machine. He seems to love the machine, and it worked great in his video. So, I dunno. Maybe you just got a lemon?

I too watched his video. I’m a subscriber of his. I’ve said before that perhaps I got a “rona” made machine but even with replacement parts, it still struggles to be reliable. There are folks in the comments that have had poor experiences with this JET too. I guess if you get one, put it through the ropes ASAP to see if there are any bug.

I saw one of these on marketplace for sale for $100. I was interested but decided to see what others have to say about it. The ad stated - "Needs a new motor and a belt for the belt drive. Drum motor is good". I'm going to stay away from it. Thanks for posting.

Absolute POS! Do not buy it. I got one for new shop. Didn't unbox for 2 months. Was factory defective. Jet sent me a new motor. Replaced it & still defective. Sent me a new motor backet. Still defective. Took it to auth service. Still defective. Been a year now. I've lugged it around, wrenched on it for a several hours. I'm out a grand and I haven't sanded a damn thing. BEWARE.

his issue is improper maintenance improper storage improper operation and also not mounting ot properly it snot mad to be just set on a bench it is supposed to e\be bolted to a stationary stand ...... jet has not change the Design nor eth manufacturing of it since the started making it back in 1982 and it is actually made in Canada by a Canadian Company Named JET ...some of the electronics are made in Taiwan or Vietnam but mine has been working like new for 22 years .... But this is the case of DIY project users that do not read the manual and or does not know how to use the tool Properly and do not know how to maintain them properly ................

Have you not dealt with a representative of JET? Obviously not with such comments. Hope you felt better about this statement. To think that I never thought of that? ... Or that perhaps not watching all the videos with the drum sander and what I went through still made you a great orator of the obvious.
I wouldn’t buy these with your money
